Finding another app.Very Disappointing.
The app and interface is already behind the times and has its own issues. Aside from no ads and other non-essential, value-added features; I can't see any advantage to switching to paid-premium, especially subscription based. A subscription service for this app isn't worth it at all. I'd pay $10 for a "PRO" version of the app that keeps the ads but includes some premium features.
It's sad that I 'll lose my streak but I think it may be time to start looking at other apps.8 -

Finding another app.Bold choice to continue to remove features when MFP isn't in most peoples top 3 recommends for a diet tracker. Loseit, Carb Manager, Cronometer

Finding another app.They should have added new features that bring value to encourage people to pay. Removing features and charging for them is the wrong move.8

No big deal.doesn't really matter to me one way or the other, still not purchasing premium. if they keep removing features that i actually use from the free version, there are alternatives and will migrate elsewhere.
ETA: They're already mining and benefiting from my data so I feel like that's payment enough.7 -
Finding another app.Definitely going to be switching apps. That feature was really the only reason I was still using this app. No way will I pay a monthly sub cost for that one thing. They already had me irritated with the constant pushing premium in my face every time I open the app.
Maybe they should try actually improving the app, instead of just taking free features and making us pay for them.5 -
Finding another app.Been a member for a decade and tolerated the ads up til now. But the recent change happening in October has finally pushed me over to Cronometer.
Very much a situation of 'read the room' going on here. Between rising costs of everything and the fact there's plenty of other free alternatives now... this latest decision by MFP is only going to push users away, me included.

Finding another app.It says a lot that they can't think of anything new to bring to the app. Moving previously free features behind a pay wall, a subscription based one no less, instead of creating new features people would be willing to pay for is a mistake.
You know what would have been an innovative feature for premium, as opposed to removing free features? A weekly calorie plan. Are you someone who has a weekly pizza night? Maybe you meal prep for the week but brunch on Saturday morning with friends. People rarely consume the same amount of calories every day, so why not have a weekly allotment of calories that you can distribute amongst the days of the week?
An example of how it would look:
Goal: average 2000 calories a day
Weekly total: 14000 calories
Sun: 2200
Mon: 2000
Tue: 1800
Wed: 2000
Thu: 1800
Fri: 2000
Sat: 2200
That way you can fit your goals to your lifestyle better, and not just "eating back workout calories." Most people are more social eaters on the weekends, so being able to allocate calories for those days within the app would be helpful as a premium feature.
Don't get rid of the free barcode scanner. Not worth the loss of users.5 -
Finding another app.Nice try MFP. I only came back for the food tracking, I already switched to another app for my work outs. This may be the thing that finally sinks this old boat.6

Finding another app.Barcode reading is litterally the only feature worth a damn. I am going to be losing a 1000+ day streak and 3 years of weightloss tracking when I leave on princple oct 1st3

How about if MFP does better marketing or adds other options to premium vs taking function away from free version?I know most of these sites are now charging at some level and adding advertising, etc.. but to strip away a basic functionality on a site that has been plagued with tech issues over the years is silly.
I'm not totally sure if this will wipe me out of here but it sure does make me consider it.2 -

If they maintained a good database of updated entries, I would be far more willing to pay a premium price for it. Even the barcode scanner doesn’t match entries sometimes. Not sure what I’ll do. I might do the 50% off for the year as I am managing the beginning year of maintenance. After that, re-evaluate.6

I understand that Under Armours earnings are down, but I can't see this as a solution to that problem0 -

How about if MFP does better marketing or adds other options to premium vs taking function away from free version?I feel like a LOT of the barcodes I scan come up as not found, or the wrong food, so why would I pay for that?? The only reason I might consider paying is because they have made the ads more intrusive, but then I can just use it less on my phone and more on my laptop, where I have ads blocked.1

Finding another app.I'll probably switch to cronometer. Got super annoyed when they started playing ads while I was trying to log my food, and taking away barcode scanning is some *kitten*. Bye MFP. I've been using it off and on since 2012!2

Didn't know they existed. Once I saw that they are cancelling the bar code function for non premium members, I had to go and make sure I wasn't the only one that was peeved off. I'll definitely be closing my account and looking at other apps.0

Finding another app.Imagine having your userbase build up your app through word of mouth, add recipes and food items to the database, and generally be okay with annoying ads since it's free.
Only to defecate through our sunroof and decide to strip features, push yet another subscribe-every-month-forever in order to keep features that were standard. They're following the industry of making us rent every function of our lives, but it's still *kitten*3 -

I have been using MFP since 2011 and I am very disappointed in the latest announcement. Where is the logic in taking away an existing feature? Maybe you guys need to invest in better developers and innovators for your brand instead of punishing loyal users. Hate to lose my streak and my friends but not willing to go back to typing in every entry or paying for what was free.0
