Post Workout Eating Advice Requeted

Ok so I went to the gym tonight and did 35 mins on the treadmill then came home and did 30DS. Had a good burn of over 500 cals. Then I had a big dinner and leftover cheesecake for dessert right after. My tummy is telling me that im an a*shole... But am I? The meal totaled out around 860 calories... Way too big of a meal I know but most of my calories today came from it. Should I feel sh*tty about this or am I cool? What should my future pre/post food workout plan b? Help guys!! Thank u

honestly that sounds like a lot to me to eat after a workout. if i work out before bfast i will have a protein shake afterwards and around 300-400 cals for bfast.0

What is 30DS? Just so I know..
Dont feel ****ty!! I find I need to eat after training, at least within 45 mins, but not a heavy meal, one thing this site has show me, is small meals 4/5 times a day xx I get cramps and intergestion if I eat to much.. Or try drinking water with your meal??? Just a thought... xx0 -
Hey. I'm not expert on this, but I have read in a few places that after a work-out if you're trying to lose weight its best to wait an hour before eating as it maximises fat burning - but this could be totally wrong haha.
And as for feeling ****ty, I don't think you need to at all as long as its not a regular thing and like you said, its not going over your cals. However maybe next time just watch your eating a bit more and notice when you feel full to save that horrible overfull feeling - maybe just halve the cheesecake or something so that you still get some, but don't feel sick ?0 -

I am working with a trainer and she says to always plan on being hungry aver a good workout. With that, try to aim for more protein and green veggies. Keep sugar to a minimum. But in the end if you ate that cheesecake as a treat every now and again, you should be fine. Cannot give up everything or else you will feel deprived. Keep up on the working out! Great job.0

The key with working out at night is actually to plan your eating - and eat some of your extra calories during the day - don't wait till after you have exercised to try and eat them all.....
On my late night exercise days I increase the calories in each meal of the day - and then eat a protein bar, or some nuts an hour or two before I work out.....
That way your post workout meals should not make you feel bleghhh - and you make sure you eat enough calories to cover at least some of your exercise cals0 -

Thanks guys! If anyone wants to see my diary message me for password. Dinner was:
2 boca burgers (just the patty)
1 cup steamed broccoli
1 oz goats milk cheddar cheese
Here's the naughty:
1 cup egg noodles with red curry sauce
1/2 piece German chocolate cheesecake
I haven't binged in several days (used to do it nightly), I was still under daily calories, and I didn't eat a lot during the day so I'm sure I'll be ok weigh-in wise but I won't be keeping this as a habit. Thanks again!!0 -
Don't stress too much about it. As long as you don't exceed your total calories or macro limits for the day it won't make a difference. If it feels like too much at once then yea try to space it out more during the day.0

Hiya. Everything I have read about it (not a bunch admittedly) says that eating something that includes a few good carbs and a decent amount of protein within 30 minutes of exercise is a good thing. For longer exercise burns (like riding 50 + miles on a bicycle) it is of course important to eat WHILE you are exercising. I learned that the hard way not too long ago, lol. Like another poster in this thread said, planning for it in advance is the best thing to do, and I would add just to keep in the mindset that eating is really giving your body fuel. The key is always going to be getting it the quality fuel it needs (but not necessarily wants). If you plan for that, and start making it a habit, good things happen!
Oh, one final thought...if it were me, I wouldn't feel sh*tty about any food decision I made at all. You are cool. Its' nuthin, and it's all in the rear view mirror; I would just keep movin it forward! :flowerforyou:0 -
