That's a pretty aggressive goal! Anywhere from .5 - 2lbs per week is safe weight loss. Have you changed your eating habits? There are a lot of posts in the forum about how weight loss is 80% what you eat and 20% exercise. Good luck to you!1

Metabolism don't stop otherwise you would be dead. Try for a less aggressive weight loss goal.8

Your goal is too aggressive.
Also, your metabolism hasn't slowed down, but perhaps you have. Our metabolism stays pretty stable, at least until we're 60.

You may just have a less active lifestyle than when you were younger.
What is the precise issue?
- how much do you weigh and what is your goal?
- how many calories do you consume?
- how long have you been trying to lose weight?6 -
I am over 40 and my metabolism has slowed down.
Does that mean you have had a series of resting metabolism tests?
If so what were the numbers that you are basing that statement on?
I actual think it has stopped.
Dead people don't tend to be able to post on MyFitnessPal....
My goal is to drop 10 pounds in 3 weeks.
Why such an aggressive timescale?
I work out 4-5 times a week. I do 30 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of strength training!
Which has very little to do with weight loss.

I agree with everyone above, but I also agree that over 40 weight loss seems a little harder. For me it was about bad eating Habits, less activity in general, fewer nights out dancing the night away etc. Less time on the softball field. More time sitting at work. A nice car, less walking, no bus, you know?
It's still just about calories.
I hope you choose a less aggressive weight loss rate. It becomes more about creating good sustainable habits, truly.7 -

What's you're eating like? How many NET calories a day? Are you being accurate?

I'm over 40 too, and to stop my metabolism from slowing down, I'm quite active. Generally our metabolisms slow down as we age as we become sedentary, not because of any broken mechanisms on the inside. Also - my rate of loss is about 0.5lbs a week, which is healthy and sustainable, and I eat enough protein and lift weights to ensure that mostly comes from my fat reserves, not my muscles. As we age, as women, retaining muscle and even building muscle is super important for bone density, to stave off osteoporosis. I'd perhaps recalibrate your expectations and your approach, long term health beats short term loss.8
