@MissMay Beautiful bird! Is that acrylic?4

Robyn here. I have been a part of this group for a few months and have significantly reduced my alcohol intake. I'm drinking less to be more present, and for health and weight loss.
Goal: 16-20 AF days monthly. Last Month: 16 AF days. I post the next morning
1/1: Drinks (0.5)
1/2: AF
1/3: Drinks (1)
1/4: AF
1/5: Drinks (1)
1/6: AF
1/7: AF - We are car shopping (ugh!) because we sold/gave our beloved Honda Element to son 2. We're not sure what we want but are thinking hybrid. Yesterday we test-drove a Honda Accord hybrid and liked it a lot. Normally, we would dine out while being out like but we came home, cooked dinner and we each drank a couple of the NA Clausthalers. We estimated that we saved $50 by not having two drinks each while dining out on a Saturday night.

Well DH and I decided to go out for pizza yesterday afternoon and I had 2 beer with the food. Then home for a beautiful nap. Needless to say that sorta broke my own rule of 1 A day per week. that made 2.
I observed and documented my sleep and as everyone knows your sleep isn't worth a poop when you drink. Wake up in the middle of the night, toss and turn and can't stay asleep.
Back to my new normal of AF....the AF bar is open and will remain that way ....but I have noticed our normal stomping ground carries Heineken 00 so I will order that on occasion should we need to go out on a non A day.
9 -
I like Heineken 00 too and it is getting easier to find. Most bars around here only carry one kind of NA beer; I am hoping they start carrying a variety as they are not all created equal.
I am feeling much improved from my vaccine. My temperature is back to normal.9 -

@SunnyDays930 - Thanks for the link! Because of that I've been looking around on "thesoberscchool" website. I found the video about "The Real Problem with 'Just One Drink'" to also be helpful, with the main point being that 'just one drink" doesn't satisfy the craving (which is what we're hoping for) but is simply fueling the flames.8 -
@RockinRobyn672 I do like the Sober School. I have found her blog to be very really helpful.5

@dawnbgethealthy How is the ankle and the side effects from the shingles shot?
The side effects from the second shingles shot were a lot. 7 days was what I was told, and I got each and every side effect promised. I didn't believe that I would because I had none from the 1st shot.
The ankle shot was very quick and easy, with local anesthetic in first. Just passed the 48 hours, and was told 2-6 weeks until the full effect shows up.
No restrictions on foods or beverages, 48 hours of no activity and then I am free to resume everything if I feel up to it.
I really took it easy, binge watched Canada's Drag Race off of my PVR, ate lots of food, had a few drinks, puttered around cleaning stuff.
@MissMay
I was getting shooting pain in my ankle for about 7 weeks before going to the doctor.
I have a plate and screws in that ankle from 20 years ago (yes, skating injury) and I guess that it became all full of inflammation (arthritis). My doc has done these shots in 2500 people in several different body parts. I spoke to several people who have had them and they are pleased to not have had to have surgery.
Really was feeling 62 instead of 22 over the past month or so.
It was weird to not do any physical activity for a couple of days, I did do dance workouts the morning before my shot, knowing that I would have to limit this for a few days.9 -
I am Dawn, I live in SE BC Canada
My ongoing goal remains, 16-20 AF days per month.
Last month I had 18AF days
I do this diary style to keep track, and post the next morning
.
Sunday January 01 - AF - Had many side effects after my 2nd Shingles vaccine
Monday January 02 - AF - Slept only 1.5 hours all night, part of the promised 7 days of vaccine side effects
Tuesday January 03 - 2 drinks - Woke up with the promised rash down my arm in the morning. Friday I am getting a steroid shot in my ankle joint, hence the rush to get my second Shingles shot or I would have had to wait 3 months. I will have to stay off of my feet for 48 hours which will be hard for me. Apparently it is very painful once the local anasthesia wears off for a few days. Not sure if alcohol is allowed or not, but only ice and Tylenol can be used for pain.
Wednesday January 04 - 2 drinks
Thursday January 05 - AF
Friday January 06 - 2 drinks in the afternoon, none in the evening. Freezing came out, but I didn't have any pain after that until much later in the night.
Saturday January 07 - 2 drinks in the afternoon (again), none in the evening. Couldn't seem to get enough food into me, but I gave myself a pass on that. Planned AF for Sunday.

Hi, I found this thread way back in November and have been lurking ever since. I used to belong to a thread like this some years ago on Sparkpeople and was able to change habits for the good. For a number of reasons, I am finding myself needing to change habits again.
Everyone here is so friendly and supportive, I am glad to have found you!
Basic info: 53, female, single mother to teenage son (senior year), living in the PNW
I had not tried any NA beers since I was pregnant but was inspired by some posts here to try some. The 10 Barrell NA IPA is very good. It has a grapefruit, juicy flavor and satisfies my taste for the hoppy flavors of IPA. The Crux No Mo is also good, with a milder flavor. There are quite a few different NA beers at my local Safeway and I plan to try some more.
So far for Jan I have 4/7 AF days; plan to be AF today too11 -
Had a couple drinks yesterday. Wife bought some wines in Gatlinburg, I had a glass of watermelon and decided I could do without it. Went next door and grabbed a Stella tall boy. I will say I felt like I wanted it, as opposed to feeling impulsive or like I needed it, and made a conscious decision to have a beer while winding down for the night. I actually left a good bit sitting on my nightstand.
AF today. Woke up with my back killing me, so after a crazy hot shower and a little exercise to get the muscles moving again, I ran off to the chiropractor. That helped. Still getting situated, running errands and straightening the house. We took the tree down today.
Sometime over the next day or three, I'll pull all the pics and video off of the Olympus and my phone, sort them out and post a couple of highlights.
Sorry I haven't made much time to respond directly to most comments, but know that I read every one and try to keep up with how everybody is doing and who's got what going on. Now that I'm home and getting settled back into routines, I should be able to engage a little more.

It is the 10 month anniversary of my husband's death today and I am feeling very depressed and anxious. Alcohol would have given me a short term boost, but a depressant when depressed isn't a great idea. Stayed AF.

1/8 AF17 -
January accountability: 4 days AF
Alcohol: 4 days (11 drinks)
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 20-25 AF days this month.
1/8 - 2 wine. DD and family left to move back with his parents which are closer to their home and offices. DH & I are home alone in a quiet house. Pizza and wine for dinner then we both switched to water.9 -

Hello! It’s Amanda, I’m back. It’s a new month and a new year! I’ve been thinking about 2022 and 2023. I’ve got some goals for the year and staying 98% AF is one of them. I love this group, I love this thread, it really works.
1/1-1/7: 7 out of 7 AF
1/8: AF
Monday. 🫠9 -
One full week of AF in the books. I feel a bit better, but unfortunately I think I am battling the cold that has been circling around my family members... so body aches and headaches are here. Better than doubled-up with effects of too much wine, I suppose.
Wishing everyone a great week.

Jan 1-8 - AF10 -
Robyn here. I have been a part of this group for a few months and have significantly reduced my alcohol intake. I'm drinking less for health and weight loss.

1/8: AF - We dined at a recommended local hangout last night that had great seafood. Since we're staying AF while hubby is on antibiotics we sat at a table instead of the bar and ordered water. It would have been nice to have a glass or two of wine with that meal. We did, however, estimate a savings of $48 by not drinking the wine (2 glasses each plus crazy VA Beach hospitality tax plus tip).

So another week begins
8 out of 8 days AF for January couple more and I'll be 1/3rd of the way through.
Starting to think about how I tackle the rest of 2023. Last time i did a month AF I then dived straight back into my old ways once I'd completed the challenge to myself.
@RockinRobyn672 's point that "just one drink doesn't satisfy the craving but is simply fueling the flames" really resonated with me.
I think I'll set myself a number of drinking days each month which I can't go over. I'd also like to stop drinking at home unless it's a special occasion.
Oh well I've a few weeks to figure out my next move.

@dawnbgethealthy good luck with the ankle at work dawn I hope your not on your feet too much.4

Hello everyone
AF last night and whoop whoop day 1 of strength training of 12 week program - round 2. This one is 5 days a week but I am unsure if I will do all 5 or pair it down to 4. It has 3 days upper body, 2 lower with abs.
So AF 5 days A 3, I have not plans (as of today) to have a this week and will hold off for the weekend. But usually around wed/thur the devil jumps on my shoulder.
It is curious I noticed when I had alcohol last Thursday it really was a disappointment in the way it made me feel. Not happy/sad just kinda blah. I enjoy the relaxed feeling I get and that day I did not get the feeling. On Saturday the 2 beers were OK but still not that happy relaxed feeling I was so look forward to. Is this odd?
Today I am just scratching the surface of packing up my art/office/exercise room. Two large bins already filled and I barely got 1/2 the closet packed. This is making me rethink what I keep and what I need to replace when we get to point "B" of our move. I can see this is going to take a bit of time.
So I will work more this week on downsizing just this one room...I need to paint in there.
I wanted to let you all know I love reading your stories...They consistently remind me how strong everyone here is, and the progress and struggles are very real in our lives.
Thank you10 -

Jan 9 - AF- been enjoying different "craft ginger ales" on my AF days. That seems to be a trend now and they all taste a little different.7 -
I was craving a drink on the way home. I had these thoughts of stopping at a little bar and having a quick one. Then, I said you are just having thoughts. These thoughts will fade. But your action is what matters. I did not act on my thought.
I came home and said do a 20 min. yoga and then if you still feel like having a drink, then do it. Now that I am done with yoga, I don't feel like drinking.17 -

I have a hybrid Lexus and I LOVE it. Gas mileage is so much better. If you can get a hybrid, I highly recommend them!5 -

OMG that’s awesome! Way to go! Very inspiring because we all have that same temptation at some point. So gratifying to know it can be overcome.9 -
@Stockholm_Andy It really helps me to count/plan the number of A days I allow myself weekly, which is 3, instead of the AF days. I learned that tip from @dawnbgethealthy.
@dawnbgethealthy I hope the steroid shot works for your ankle. I am having similar problems with a knee and am having foot surgery next week (yes, it has come to surgery).4 -
@mfowler883 welcome back to reality!
@lmlmrn did you ever sell the business building? Good luck packing up the house.
@Stockholm_Andy great job being AF! Nice to have your wife joining in.
Only 1 glass of wine on Saturday and Sunday night, and honestly it wasn’t as tasty as I hoped it would be. AF tonight. This weekend was a baked goods extravaganza. Between pasta two nights in a row, bagels and lox two days in a row, and delicious homemade bread, I was in delicious carby heaven. Until I stepped on the scale this morning! Egads! I reined it in pretty well today, have to get back to normal eating. The problem is the brand new Breadmaker we got for Christmas. Warm fresh bread is impossible to resist!9 -
January accountability: 4 days AF
Alcohol: 5 days (13 drinks)
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 20-25 AF days this month.
1/9 - 2 glasses wine (Small pours since we got 6 glasses out of the 1 bottle!)
Dinner this evening ... wine, cheese, ham, crackers, and fruit board as we watched the football game.7 -
I usually like to have a beer or some wine while cooking but managed to skip it last night. Tonight will be leftovers so that temptation won't be there.
Today I am trying a Wellbeing Intentional IPA. It has more of a malty flavor than what I usually drink but it is really good and so far tastes the most like "real" beer than the other NA beers I have tried.
Including today, I have 6/9 days AF.9
