Hi. So I have been logging in forever but not doing anything. I have diabetes and just found out I have high cholesterol and high blood pressure I now weight more then I ever have in my life. Today is the first day of my healthy life. Went back to the gym. Felt good to move.22

My Elliptical 120 minutes Interval setting, straight through this AM!!! 8.5 miles. Getting back up to my long sessions.
Maybe I wasn't out of Cardiovascular endurance, as I thought. The previous sessions I wore a short sleeve shirt instead of a tank top as I did today again. (It's chilly in my basement.) Even though I had a fan on, maybe I just got to warm, which wore me down. I had stopped doing my elliptical from Thanksgiving through Christmas to get shopping done and have a less crazy Christmas season as my usual. I was going to start back up then got a GI Bug. And between work days and that I only started back on 1/10. The 3 sessions I did till today was 45-47 minutes.8 -
I bought a new bathroom scale because the old one was physically broken.
The new scale shows I am 9 pounds heavier than the old one.
So what could possibly be a NSV?
I just said OK. I did not let that kill my motivation.
I figure the scale was 9 pounds light when I started so I have still lost 30 pounds.24 -

What a healthy response to what you saw!
Do you have access to a very accurate scale, like a balance scale? Maybe at a gym or a doctor's office? It might be nice to know how accurate your scale is. I presume it's a digital scale. If not, you can adjust the zero.
I actually have two scales right now. Only one has batteries in it. I should power up the other one for fun. One has bio-electrical impedance analysis, and that's the one I use. It pretends to tell me my body fat% and water content. Anyway, these scales read just a couple or three pounds apart. There was a balance scale where I used to work. One thing I would do from time to time is to weigh myself right before I left for work, then weigh myself when I got there. I figure I didn't sweat off an appreciable amount of water on the few miles I rode my bike to work. I found out that my actual weight was just about mid-way between the two. Not that it really matters - what matters is the trend. When I was losing, I liked to see it generally decrease over time. In maintenance, I like to see it bounce around the same weight.
Do make sure the little rubber feet don't have anything like pet fur on them; they can affect the reading. Make sure the scale is on a hard, flat surface. But you already knew all this. Still, for me, I like to know what the real number is. I don't have a good way to do this anymore except when I'm going to my doctor's office... if I remember to do it. There's a scale at my gym, and while it's a pretty darn nice scale, I have no reason to believe it's certified and possibly more accurate than mine. They both are just as precise - down to 0.1 pound. Well sort of. My scale is really only precise to 0.1 kilogram, so it only shows even numbers in the decimal place when I weigh in pounds.
And again, what a super healthy way to respond. You're probably right if the scale physically wasn't able to work anymore. Now you just have more potential losses to celebrate in the future. How's that for a silly spin?7 -

I have a beam-style medical scale and it is arguably the best investment I have ever made for tracking my weight and it is quite likely going to outlive me.5 -

That's precision.
Accuracy is getting close to the bullseye, at least on average. Precision is putting every arrow through the same hole. What you want most is precision. The skew is less important to track changes.
If you actually want to know the actual weight, then accuracy becomes important, too.

But you are right of course, sometimes we do need/want to have our weight in absolute numbers instead of relative ones. The advantage of most digital scales is that you can tare them. My scale is mechanical and has the possibility to adjust the zero, but not nearly enough to zero the weight of my clothes for example. But then, I know that anyway, so I just subtract it.

My wife has a Dr. appointment next Friday and she's going to weigh there then come straight home and weigh again.
Before I retired I worked in several hospitals and I even calibrated the scales.
The are usually pretty accurate however but they can also be way off. If the person leans back while they are weighing they can change the weight.
The hospital had a biggest losers contest. I spent way to much time checking scales.
All the nurses were sure they didn't weigh that much.7 -

I have lost a little over 17 inches since September!!16

My most recent NSV came while I was in the shower. I could actually fully bend over and scrub my feet!! It's been a long time since I could wash between my toes and not be in excruciating pain from sciatic issues as well as seized up psoas muscles (hip flexors). This was a most satisfying shower....12

My downward dog is actually starting to look like a downward dog.15

Persuaded my husband to try a program on our exercise bike that I find enjoyably challenging. He hated it and now feels like death apparently, so I now feel significantly fitter even if I'm 2 stone heavier.17

My husband had me carry in a bag of pellets from outside. He smiled and said this is the same weight as the weight you lost. Then he hugged me.26

I realized that I don't have to be good at running to get in a really good run.
The running bursts mixed in with walking always makes me feel so, so great afterwards. And slowly I am getting faster and running longer during those bursts.20 -
I’ve been thinking I am a slow runner. I’m older so usually keep my runs at around same tempo to not exasperate old injuries. I decided lets go for a 5k under 30. Have done this before but nursing said injuries at the end of year and then getting Rona and recovering from it had slowed me down. ✅ Got that done for hump day this week. So felt good and soreness I’ve still got that surely getting back to my comfortable max is back in play. The 2nd NSV came from a friend of mines husband who’s a jogger. Turns out my 9:37/MI Avg hump 5k under 30 bested someone 20 years my junior by almost 3 mins per mile. I guess I’m doing me just fine.27

Not sure this counts as NSV as it has to do with numbers, but yesterday when I finished my food diary, MFP calculated that if every day were like this one, in 5 weeks I'd be 197 lb. As in, UNDER 200 LB! As in, onederland!! (Yesterday was an anomaly because I went skiing, but still...)26

My most recent nsv... I'm having kidney surgery on the 31st and the 2nd of February (two on the same kidney) for kidney stones, and saw my surgeon for the initial consult. He told me I was lucky I was "thin" as it would be easier for me AND for him, no excess fat to cut through I guess. I was like... Who? ME? THIN??? Yeah, I've lost over 60 pounds since I started my journey, but when I look in the mirror I still see an overweight gal. No, I'm not overweight anymore, but that's what I see! 😂🤣😂27

Ok, this is totally ego ego ego.
I was riding my bike home from a “muscle madness” class after dark.
I’m stopped on a side alley, waiting to cross a busy street. It’s fairly dark, bike has LEDs twinkling like a mobile disco, and I’m in skin tight leggings with a hoodie, poised to shoot across the intersection.
Pickup truck goes by slowly, and a young man hangs his head out the passenger window and wolf whistles.
I look up and start laughing my *kitten* off, just in time to see his look of utter horror when he sees I’m old enough to be his grandma. I could hear his friend laughing helplessly, too.
Methinks he’ll be hearing about that for years to come.37 -
I have been absolutely terrified to get in a swimsuit to join the water aerobics class at my gym. I've seen too many people who have laughingly posted photos of older heavier women in locker rooms and in swimsuits to feel comfortable. So, I haven't been in a pool for probably 10 years or better. This morning, I went! I slayed that dragon that I had been avoiding for soooo long. It felt wonderful. Going back next week.29

They sometimes teach kids swimming lessons in the corner of our pool during aquafit classes. A woman went stupid crazy on a mom for filming her son’s lesson, because she thought the woman was filming her. I felt so bad for the mom.
There was one big deal about such a thing several years ago, but surely no one does that.
I am not comfortable in bathing suits and haven’t been since a bikini top burst open in the pool at band camp and showed it all. 😬. Never mind the weight issue!
I finally realized yoga gear is great for aquafit. It’s cute, washes up super well, doesn’t bag, great support for the girls, doesn’t “billow”, the high waist holds it all in and reveals not so much belly between waistline and bra top, and bestest of all, ya don’t have to worry about a bikini line, if ya get my drift.
Check out a company like Yoga Democracy, and look at their shorts and matching bra tops. PERFECT for water aerobics.
I also order Champion bike shorts and use those with a yoga top, too. They wash up well.

NSV… this is one IFYKYK kind of thing, I was with my husband at the grocery store this morning and he ran into an acquaintance. It’s hard to understand if you never been there, but my NSV is I did not want to disappear. I can think of times he ran into someone and I was just so embarrassed to exist. Like I said If you know, you know. Everyone won’t get it.
Second NSV is I’m currently wearing a children’s hoodie, like a little girls hoodie I got out of the children’s section at the store. It’s crazy. There was a time I would just get the biggest size Walmart carried and hope for the best.
Guys… just keep going. One good choice after the next…19 -

I second this idea! I gave up on traditional swimsuits a long time ago. I could never find anything that supported the girls well enough, so sports bras and yoga tops have been the norm for me for awhile. For bottoms, I've used leggings, bike shorts, and swim skirts. At some point I realized that regardless of how comfortable I am with my body, I'm NOT comfortable running around in public in the equivalent of my underwear. Also, I'm a skin cancer survivor, so sometimes I just want more coverage from the sun.
@DawnLindley00 wear whatever you feel comfortable in. There are no rules, really.3 -
