Joined MFP to keep track of my preop and postop requirements and to act as a log of my long journey from 500lbs (Jan 1st) to my goal weight of 180-195. Looking for others on same journey, surgery or not. In the DFW area and when I am cleared I would like to find some workout partners.

I came to the realization that you don't see many 500lb 45 year olds walking around... and I have a 4 year old I want to be around for.

    Welcome to the community!

You've found a great place to log your journey. Use the tools here to help.

My second to last boss had been, at one time, 528 pounds. I asked him. I first asked if it was OK to ask a personal question, and he didn't have to answer. This was after he had bypass surgery and lost quite a bit of weight and had kept most of it off. He had been a powerlifter in his youth. Super nice guy, and he wouldn't have survived without the surgery. Allegedly, he "died" several times during it! I was in the process of losing weight as well. I asked, "When you were a BIG guy," (he was always a big guy; never could find shoes big enough, and when he did find some he liked, he got several pair), "how much did you weigh?"

He sat up straight in his chair, smiled, and said, "I don't mind at all; I was 528 pounds." Success is possible. Grab it!

Check the success stories boards for some inspirational and motivational stories.

Also, consider joining a group like this one:
    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/133315-larger-losers

I “only” lost 97, but found that the #1 helpful thing for me was simply reading the boards, reading “sticky” threads, spending time searching and reading threads that pertained to questions I had. (It’s amazing how simply ignorant we are when it comes to eating, and what’s healthy or not, what’s a diet scam or myth etc).

Being involved on the boards has been amazing, both due to the support and the inspiration I get here.

    Hi,
I'm having duodenal switch surgery next Wednesday! I'm nervous, but excited. I have about 200 pounds to lose. I'm in North Carolina.

Hi I’m hoping to get a gastric balloon however I will be on a waiting list so until then I’m going to keep going and lose weight more naturally. I always find myself in a vicious weight loss/gain cycle.

However once I gave birth to my son it was like woah OMG WOAH.

I can’t wait for the day I can say I’m just maintaining my weight rather than I’m in a diet!

However please add me to your friend list it would be great to connect
