Ok, so DH and I are having a debate....
Could use some opinions...I think my ONLY option at this point is surgery...
I came here and lost almost 30 pounds from jan-May 08
Gained a few over the recent Holidays and just lost them again and am at my lowest
I'm about 5'7ish and 129
I had to kiddies 18 mnths apart and the youngest is now 3.5
I don't belong to a gym but walk on a treadmill at home and do yoga
3 weeks ago I bought Jillian Michael's 30 days shred and have been using it daily (minus only 1-2 days)
My legs and arms are firmer, more toned, but my stomach is still LOOSE/jiggly...whatever you want to call it
Is there any hope?
Thanks, kim

Stomach is always the last to go...while surgery may be an option make sure you have a plan for the 6 weeks after surgery that you are not allowed to excercise....Perhaps in the meantime do some target excercises 3 times a week just on your tummy area....but my guess is results will be slow0

If I was 5'7" and weighted 129 I'd be doing something else besides checking a weight loss site! Congrats on that. I would highly suggest
thinking twice about elective surgery. I've had 10 that were for other things and surgery is no fun at all. Surely there's something that will
firm that midsection besides going under the knife? I'll tell you something that does almost give me a washboard feeling in that area is a good cleanse (fiber type) cleanse. You might think along those lines as well. I sure wish you a world of success.0 -
Thanks for the support/tips
Like I said I initially came here in Jan 08 weighing almost 160
So, I like to stick around and post/answer questions to keep me motivated and help me maintain
I guess I'm just frustrated that I've worked so hard to loose the weight and work out and my stomach still looks like CRUD
Thanks again for letting me vent
Still open to any suggestions

Good job Kim, you are an MFP success story!!
I hear a lot about jiggly belly skin. My friend who is 99 lbs still has a bit from the babes.
You have to decide how important it is for you.
Try different ab routines. Everyone gets stuck on the crunches. Well I did 50 and nuttin. then worked out with a trainer and did leg lifts and my ENTIRE ab area is sore. Top to bottom.
Check out the web for different routines and I bet you will see some results!!

You've done a great job losing weight - first of all take time to celebrate and appreciate that feat..
If you want to tighten up your stomach, I would suggest crunches and more abdominal work. Crunches, reverse crunches, and bicycles are a great way to start - just keep upping the intensity and repititions and really focus on these 3-4 days a week - give yourself a day in between.
Gaining muscle can take longer than losing the weight, but is a very worthwhile goal. Hang in there.

5'7, 129 and jiggly skin from two babies?
Someone hold this woman while I hit her--

I'm also 5'7" and started at 155. But at 50 it takes a lot longer to lose the weight! In November I bought two books "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" and "The Abs Diet for Women". I'm pretty much following the exercise program from NROL and the diet program from The Abs Diet (with some extra abd exercises from The Abs diet book) so I can't tell you which did what. But I have seen a complete reshaping of my body, including losing 5 inches from my waist and can see real definition of all my abdominal muscles. There's still a small belly that keeps me from having the "washboard abs" people talk about but you rarely see (especially at my age!) so I'm still highly motivated to continue. I can now wear tight sweaters again and not see any bulges.
Also, being in the health care field please keep trying rather than going the surgical route. Too many things can go wrong even with the most minor surgery.0 -
hun, if you're talking about that loose skin, it's probably not going anywhere. It's stretched out from those beautiful babies of yours, which is totally natural. If it bothers you that much, and it's something you really want, then maybe you SHOULD look into plastic surgery. You've worked hard on your body (and you look great!) a little tummy tuck to take care of something beyond your control may be a good option for you.
did I mention you look GREAT!?:flowerforyou:0 -
You're weight is pretty good. So, it makes me wonder if it's not the loose skin that's bothering you. I'd suggest having your body fat percentage measured. If that number is good, then the skin may be the culprit. I'd put off considering surgery though until you're 100% sure you're done having kids, and you're also 100% sure you've done everything possible to lose any excess body fat and increase your muscle. Good luck!

I would keep working out and give it more time. It takes awhile before the skin can shrink. You can always do surgery later as a last resort.
Have you tried running? That is what really made a difference in my stomach. And I didn't start till last summer when I was 48. I'm 49 now and DH keeps saying he cannot believe I'm going to be 50 this year.
The other exercise that has helped is pilates. It works the core so much better than crunches. Maybe yoga does to. I've never tried it.0 -
I know what you are saying. I am about the same pize as you and have the stubborn "baby belly " that just loves to hang out (literally)
I do have to say that I have been doing Pilates and has made a huge difference. (about 6 weeks) My belly is still there, however, it is getting much firmer. I think I will always have some "jiggle" there, but at least it is a bit tighter.
Good Luck!!0 -
I'm with you on the jiggly belly. My youngest is 5 and the skin is still very loose. It's been about a year since I have lost the majority of my weight. So, while I still have some belly fat that I am working on, there is not much I feel I can do about the skin.
Some people have better skin than others I think. Some women can have babies or loose weight the skin goes right back to being tone and tight. Probably most people are not that lucky. Some of us need a little extra help. :ohwell:0 -
Honestly, It took until my son was 5 for the skin to start looking vaguely normal again. My skin was so stretched that I felt like I needed to tuck it in to my pants. A good friend of mine suggested drinking a lot of water. Surprisingly, it did work after about six months. I know it sucks when you are working so hard and the skin won't cooperate. Drink a lot of water and good luck.0
