    * I highly recommend using a chest strap heart rate monitor. I have a Polar FT4, but have heard good things about the newer Polar FT7.
    * At home, I weigh everything I eat in kilograms or ounces.
    * I eat all of my exercise calories most of the time.
    * I always make sure my net calories are above 1200. (1500 - 1800 for a man)
    * If it becomes difficult to eat all of my exercise calories, like in the summer when we are bicycling, I cut back on exercising, rather than consuming high calorie unhealthy food.
    * I rarely eat out anymore.
    * The few processed foods I eat, I read the label, and make sure they are not too high is sodium.
    * I no longer eat high glycemic index foods. I eat some medium index foods which consist of stone ground whole wheat, whole grain, & multi-grain carb items. Steel cut oats over quick oats. No more pretzels. And low index foods which consist of vegetables and nuts.

    Good luck!

    Welcome this is a great site whether you are trying to lose, gain or just maintain a healthy lifestyle. Great group of people to keep you motivated and focused. Once you figure out what your calorie intake should be, you need to stick to that as wel asl get into a good strength training program which will help put some body mass and weight on you. Good luck with your goals.
