What should I have for a snack?!?

Can someone take a look at my diary and tell me some good snack ideas? I already had breakfast, lunch & dinner.. ate really good today. Usually around this time or 8pm I have snack cravings. Would it be okay to possibly have a Think Thin Bar? Or should I have a tablespoon of peanut butter with multigrain flaxseed crackers? I already had 3 tablespoons of almond butter today, so I don't know if it'd be bad to have a tablespoon of organic peanut butter from Trader Joes. Lol any options - responses are appreciated. Thanks!

Don't know how late at night it is where you are, but if you'll be going to bed soon and not doing anything active, I'd definitely stick with protein snacks and avoid any carbs. Hard-boiled eggs are good, so is a cheese wedge or some beef jerky.

if i had 1,000cals to play around with i'd go another full meal, lean protein, some starch and some veggies, then maybe save some cals for dessert

I live in California, it's 7:35pm and I usually don't go to sleep until 11pm! Is it bad to eat carbs at night?

You've only had a little over 800 calories if you want more nut butter with fruit or bread I don't think that would be a problem.
  • If it's getting late I would just call it a night and skip the snack craving. If your truly hungry have a cup of green tea with honey.

Wow - your diet is so healthy any suggestion I have may not be your thing. The eating at night thing is a myth and has been scientifically proven so we have that out of the way. Now, I try to have good snacks but as long as I can work it into my remaining calories, I sometimes just have what I want but not often. I try to hit the protein hard in snacks because I am not a big meat eater. I love the Chobani Greek Yogurt. You can get the fat free and it is really as good as the 2% to me. I always keep some bananas in the freezer. So, sometimes I will make a smoothie with 8 oz of milk, cut in chunks the frozen banana and 4 pecan halves and blend it all together. It gives me the illusion of a banana shake with slivers of nuts. You can use any frozen fruit to do this. You sure have a lot of calories left. Are you sure you are eating enough?
  • I mix 1/4 cup light ricotta with stevia, cinnamon and vanilla. or....
ricotta, 1 tblsp nat.peanut butter, stevia and vanilla.
so good:) if you want to add a bit of carb to it then chop up half an apple, is good in both!

You need to eat more calories today. Even when you want to eat less than the suggested, you should still aim for at least 1200. I think you should eat what you want - protein would be good. But, you might want to think about some healthy snacks to have on hand in case this happens again. I've been making homemade granola bars - only about 125 calories each and very filling.

I have some Fage 0% greek yogurt in the fridge! Hmm.. maybe i'll just have a Protein shake since it's really low in carbs (3g!) and high in protein.

And I hardly eat my exercise calories back, so please excuse my net cals!!

i looked at your meals you do eat really healthy and light and I personally would eat an apple or banana
  • An awesome snack I tried this week was take two Carmel rice cakes, mix sugar free whip cream with a few dashed if cinnamon. Put about three or four Tablespoons on one cake and top it with the other rice cake. Pop in the freezer for an hour. It's like an ice cream sandwich.

You have a great diet, I just decided to have almond butter and a mini pita as a late night snack.

Yes, it is. How bad depends on your metabolism & how quickly your particular body uses carbs. But remember, carbs are designed to fuel your body when it's active: they provide quick bursts of energy. If you eat them and then just sit around, or go to bed, they will just get stored on your body as fat.
Protein, on the other hand, digests more slowly and is burned more slowly. So if what you need is something to satisfy the munchies, something that will provide steady, slow-burning energy for inactive times, you should eat protein. It's more likely to get used & not stored.

This too, sadly. I just snack on whatever i happen to fancy, log the calories, and make sure i can afford it. :)

I also eat carbs at night, done me no harm at all.
