Hi All,

I am relatively new here and want to lose about 20 pounds. I am pretty regular in entering my food, but I only watch the calories and dont bother with the other metrics.

How do you mange your food diary? Do you watch all four and make sure that you are under your daily maximum for each.
I would like to hear from you as I may be doing it wrong. I have yet to lose even a single pound, but I know I need to increase my exercise minutes.

Also want to say thank you to all the people who post their success stories. They are very inspiring and make me work harder.

Thanks All.

  • I workout pretty hard so I tend to be way over in my protein, under in carbs and close to the fat range. I am not anti carb at all, just get mine in early in the day usually with oatmeal and fruit, then not so much in the afternoon. Works well for me:) Sometimes you just have to play around with it as everyone metabolizes things differently.

I find that if I stick to my calories, for the most part, my macros are pretty close to the goal amount. Though I don't get enough protein and sometimes go way over my carbs. The things I really worry about are sugar and sodium (and calories, of course). Been doing well so far, even though lately I'm usually over in my macros ;x minus protein.

I mainly watch my sugar grams and carbs. With that said, I generally don't eat fruit or dairy currently, as I am trying to lower my body fat. Sugar grams should be 18 or under to make a big difference. I try to match my body weight in protein grams.

I pay attention to both - keeping my calories under, keeping carbs low and protein high. Oh and sugar low too.

if you are on standard MFP ratios for macronutrients don't worry about going over on protein or fat. If you are going over on carbs then I would be upping protein/fat and decreasing carbs. It isn't an either thing though as the macros will determine your total calorie intake.

honestly you shouldn't put ceilings on any macro but instead shoot for minimums in Protein and Fats and then fill the rest in as you see fit

great question! If you watch your cals you ll fall in line for the most part. Its way better to eat the carbs and grains in early part of the day and stick with protein and veggies the latter part of the day. Also I have learned its really 90% of what you eat and only 10% of exercise. But you have to watch both of course. If you eat too much or not enough it will definitely change things up and make more work for yourself. Also one of my trainer friends who is also a nurse says a lil protein before bed helps keep your fat burning like an oven while sleeping

I used to be an anti-carb person (after doing the south beach diet), but for the last 3.5 months I have been counting calories and eating lots of carbs (going over most days, sometimes way over) but since they 99% are from fruit, whole grains, oats etc I have easily made it to my maintanence weight, and am now maintaining. Granted, I never had a lot to lose, but going over in carbs didn't effect me at all since they were "good carbs".
