I've been trying to eat a lower refined carb diet, and my body has been telling me that I don't want the carbs a lot more lately!
I had a sandwich for lunch, and I picked all the meat off the bread because I didn't want the bread.
For dinner I had stuffed grape leaves at the restaurant we went to, and I barely touched the rice pilaf that came with it - as I already had rice in the leaves and some pita bread for an appetizer.9 -
A friend gave me some delicious produce from her garden. I usually don't even cook much this time of year because of the heat, but I figured I could saute up some zucchini and tomatoes (with onions and garlic). It was a big amount of veggies, and I was thinking, "I should make some rice or barley or something to go with them." I decided I didn't need the calories, so I just ate the veggies. None left over. Awesome lunch.
Later in the day, I took the other half of the onion, a fresh cucumber also from the garden, more zucchini, some tomatoes, and a wee bit of sesame oil and added to some skipjack tuna for a veggie-laden tuna "salad" for supper. I almost added some panko for a little crunch, but decided I didn't need THOSE calories either.
Instead I had a half a cantaloupe; they are in season from Hermiston, and those are the BEST.12 -
NSV- today my skinny jeans not only fit but are a little bit loose.
Scale Victory - I am no longer obese, just overweight!17 -
Completed my fourth Sprint Triathlon of the Summer. Got another one this weekend!
I've come a long way!

I'm going through some major stress/grief and the thought of "eating to cope" has not even occurred to me. This is the first time I have ever gone through a difficult time and not reached for food to try to comfort myself.30

I've slowly started doing plyo exercises to include a VERY small jump box with my kids that I coach.
They're actually impressed that this old fat man can do it and motivated to do better than me.15 -
I received multiple compliments on my eyes last week. I have the same eyes I have always had. The difference is I have lost fat in my face so you can see them better now.
I think this means people are starting to see a difference 😀👀👍🏻25 -
This is pretty minor since I’ve only been back on MFP for about a month and my scale hasn’t budged (actually I think it’s not working any more and am waiting for a replacement) and I look exactly the same. But I’ve been feeling better physically, and decided to try on a dress that’s quite fitted but surprisingly forgiving even with big weight fluctuations of 15-20 pounds. I had planned to wear it to a friend’s memorial celebration recently but could barely squeeze into it and looked like a overstuffed double-dip ice cream cone; thank goodness I had a different dress with me! Anyway, I just tried on the dress and it fits pretty comfortably. So I think this dress will be my regular weekly test of how it’s going.
If anyone’s interested, it’s the Sara dress style from Blue Sky Clothing, a Canadian company that has gorgeous stuff in a range of sizes and does ship to other countries. I promise I don’t work for them! But I have appreciated the size flexibility of their styles.15 -
Logged a loss after getting home from vacation.
Started a new workout program and completed the first 3 workouts making modifications where it made sense.13 -

This is so funny to me. Congrats on getting some compliments! I think sometimes people kinda notice that something is different (or that you look nice) but they can't quite put a finger on what has changed, so they comment on whatever comes to mind. Or they don't want to comment on someone else's weight because that can be fraught. Last time I lost a bunch of weight, I started getting comments on my hair

I have a favorite ring that hasn't fit me in years. I put it on my finger a few days ago! Of course this was followed by a few moments of panic as I realized I couldn't get it off again. It was a bit of an event even with the help of soap, but I am once again ring-less. I think I'll wait another 20 lbs or so before I try again
Another NSV is that the hot summer weather hasn't been bothering me. I have always hated hot sunny days, I'd be sweaty and miserable and complain all day lol. Even though I'm still in the early phases of a substantial weight loss effort, I've noticed lately that I can spend time outside doing stuff despite the heat, and not constantly feel like I'm going to die! This is amazing to me. Must be my changed diet?
Oh and also, I fit into an armchair that has been too tight for me for the past several years. I had to sort of perch on the front edge and now I can sit all the way back. (Not at my house but I go there regularly.)17 -

This is so true! I have been getting many more compliments on my hair, makeup, and outfits. My favorite comment was, “life has been treating you very well!” Yes it has, because I’ve been treating myself better than I used to.13 -
@Thewonderofitall wow that is awesome! Good luck in your next race! Your transformation is inspiring!1

I organized a "beginning whitewater" kayak trip yesterday afternoon for one of the clubs I'm part of. We had ten boats, and everyone appreciated getting out and either doing some learning or polishing up after being away from paddling for a while. Smiles all around - that makes it worthwhile.
When we met to set shuttle, a person who I haven't seen in a few years who is also retired from a job very similar to the job I retired from but for a city about ten or twelve miles away said, "Wow. You're looking very fit." I tried not to smile TOO much.
Maybe the paddling and hiking are contributing to that. Today I had a scale victory, but this isn't the place to bring that up. Maybe I should go to the forest today!15 -
I had a NSV moment after a frustrating scale victory yesterday. I had eaten very healthy last week and the scale didn’t move. I had eaten at a restaurant and gotten a meal (and eaten the leftovers) that was high in veggies and lean protein but I figured that the sodium in the sauce would stall my efforts to lose for a few days. It did. Sunday started well with a long walk but then most of my movements were to get snacks. On Monday morning, after eating poorly I lost 3 lbs. My immediate response was “Now you drop?” However, I was rather quickly able to tell myself to trust the process of eating healthy. I know what will help me accomplish my health goals long term.13

I presume you're logging your food accurately and staying in deficit. Eating foods that are high in nutrition are one leg of the stool for good health. Eating fewer calories than you expend is the primary way to get the scale to move. If you eat lots of vegetables and lean protein but eat more than you expend, your scale won't show a lower number.
I've had a few confusing days lately too, but today was an unusual scale drop. It will probably bounce back tomorrow, but even if it does, the trend is still downwards very slowly as I'm about to my goal.2 -
My resting heart rate dropped a little bit below its common 50 to 52-ish today. Garmin thinks I'm doing OK fitness-wise, seems, too: Giving me an estimate that I have a good VO2max for my age (despite my early-stage COPD?!), and a truly silly-optimistic estimated fitness age. (Birth certificate says actual age is 67.)
These aren't lowest HR measurement and fitness age ever, but I'll take 'em.
Presumably all of this has something to do with being fairly active doing fun stuff, mostly rowing (boats when I can) and some cycling. (Garmin counts one minute of moderate exercise as one "intensity minute", one minute of vigorous exercise as two "intensity minutes", trying to get people to the "150 minutes of moderate cardiovascular exercise, or 75 minutes of vigorous, or a combination" that the authorities suggest. That gray bar at right is 150 tall, not filled because the week just started. Retirement is helpful logistically when it comes to doing fun stuff.

A1C went from 6.4% to 5.3% in 18 months. T2 diabetes is prevalent on one side of my family, but I had never shown any indication of it until a routine visit 18 months ago. That scared the *kitten* out of me. (Is it weird that I enjoy self-censoring with my own kitten insert? LOL)17
-
@AnnPT77
I dunno Ann. I think Garmin may be on to something. You're not really active for someone your age. You're just active. Many years of eating healthy food and then several years of eating the RIGHT AMOUNT of healthy food (with a dose of hedonism thrown in from time to time) is the recipe for these kinds of results.
I reckon you might have good genes, too, but you're making the best of them. I don't know how "fit" the "average" 26 year old is these days. I was surprised when I was at perhaps my fittest a few years ago and was still playing Ultimate. I was finally able to keep up with the much younger players when I was on defense, and I could break away from them to get the disc. Training can do that for us.
I'm inspired that maybe I might also get as fit as you are some day. I've got a lazy streak though. I try to be as efficient as possible when paddling. Rowing is a full-body exercise that can be pretty intense, and you get after it pretty often.
Oh. Yeah. I am checking in with our rowing club, and I think they do expect attendance pretty often. Not sure I'll get into that, plus the cost.8 -
I started (again). Making progress emotionally from a frustrating week last week bought a new scale and started tracking.11

I got some good news that I'm calling a NSV. It has nothing in particular to do with fitness or weight management. Only tangentially.
I have been volunteering with a non-profit to do some invasive aquatic species work. Last year I was asked to help, and I said yes. The person I worked with said, "I can't pay you." I said that was good because otherwise I wouldn't do it; I had made a commitment to myself not to work for money for at least six months after retiring. Well, as way leads to way, I offered to help again this year. I was told there might be funds in the grant to pay me this year. I told them I'd do whatever was best for them; keep being a volunteer or get compensation. There's a benefit to the organization either way. I have been working with them for a few months already, just a few days a month.
I just found out that I'll get some compensation this year. Yay! Feels good to offer to trade time for money for something you love and would do anyway. The reality is I can use the extra money since property tax is due soon, and I've had some unexpected expenses lately.
The tangential relationship to fitness is that we do this work from canoes. Being fit enough to paddle long distances for multiple days in a row allowed me to offer myself up to do this, and it "got me a job."

Walking around at work today my scrub pants felt noticeably loose and baggy.13
-
I ran out of pants the other day 🙈 I had a clean pair left in the closet, but when I put it on I realized that it has become waaaayyy too baggy to wear in public. So I had to wear my yoga pants instead, lol. The next size down is starting to get a bit odd-shaped too at this point but it'll have to do until I can finally wear my blue jeans out. I've been able to zip them up for the past 10.5 lbs or so, however they still aren't appropriate for wearing in public haha17

#takinitalloff - that’s awesome!
p.s.: I love your posts and how active you are on here! Thank you for sharing your journey, as it’s inspiring to me!6 -
I had a slice of birthday cake at lunch time yesterday; a fraisier, really tasty. There's a slice leftover. I didn't want it last night, and then again today either. AND I am not eating it because I don't want it enough. I normally would just eat it because it's there and it's good.11

NSV ya say? Laughing after the fact. Facetiming my sister and she said I needed a smaller bra. I'm like, listen, that costs money! Been using a fancy paper clip to fold over my work pants so they don't fall down because I refuse to purchase new clothes. Maybe PTSD from clothes shopping, but not doing it16

Putting socks and (walking) shoes on this morning: Noticed that I no longer need to gyrate around with huffing and puffing. Able to easily bend over and get them on with minimal effort. This a little thing that is HUGE for me .17

I put on one of my XL shirts this morning and was pleased with how it fit. It wasn’t tight. I had my picture taken with family this afternoon and I was shocked. The shirt (which I thought looked/fit good) looked like a tent on me. Wow. The picture was horrible but the realization that I had lost that much was great 😀
And now that I think of it - the fact that I was even willing to have my picture taken is a BIG NSV.
So, because of the above incident I went to buy myself a few tops. I started to pull an XL as usual off the rack but stopped myself. I grabbed the Larges and dreaded trying them on. I was certain they would be tight and I would be coming back for the XL. Guess what?!?! The large fit and I think (I am not real certain of my judgement right now) they look nice.
My mind is BLOWN! I have not been in a large for over a decade. It was hard not to do a happy dance in the store.

My husband routinely uses IKEA chip clips, especially on his Tai chi gear.
I’m just waiting for “cloud hands” to become “bare butt”, and I am going to laugh. my. *kitten*. off when it happens. It’ll be the best “told ya so” ever.8 -
