Hi guys

Ive been on the site for a month now. .. schedule is pretty busy .. i can barely find the time to log (i've been doing it everyday though)

I also try to read the post since it gives me alot of inspiration and reminds me that there are other people going through the same thing as me.

My problem is...i started out fine...( my wieght loss goal is 56 pound to be my ideal weight for my height and age ) and i lost 8 pounds in the first month . Today i got on the scale for my weekly weigh-in and i GAINED 2 pounds. now i'm freaking out . i have stuck to my 1200 cals a day .. i am execising 45 minutes 5 times a week on my elliptical, as well as doing sit-ups and weights 2 times a week

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN???????!!!!!!!!!

If anyone has any additional ideas on what else i can do, please send them my way

Thanks

Maybe you have lost fat but gained muscle from all of your exercising? Have you been taking any measurements, like your waist and hips? My husband keeps reminding me that the scale may not be my friend but measurements don't lie. If you are losing inches, you might be gaining weight because the muscle is heavier than fat.

Don't forget muscle weighs more than fat. Sounds like you have gained some muscle mass

I think you may be eating too few calories...how much do you weight? what is your activity level? how tall are you? and how many pounds are you trying to lose per week?

weight is constantly fluctuating. it could be water retention from high sodium foods or from hormones. Don't worry about it. keep on truckin.

No need to panic. Your weight can fluctuate 5-10 pounds in either direct based on what you have been eating. One of the posts mentioned sodium which can play a part in water retention, thus the weight gain. If your clothes are still fitting you the same, then I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck!!

2 pounds fluctuation day to day is not a big deal - you have to look at the overall trend and make sure you're not going up. Often, the 2 pounds could be because you ate closer to bed time or because you drank a lot of water before bed time or in the morning, or because you haven't yet gone #2. That is, it's the weight of the food, not of your body. You have to look at the trend over a few days - if it keeps trickling up, then you have to rethink things.

Also, be careful of measuring. This is where I start to gain back weight, when I'm eye-balling a tablespoon of honey that's closer to 2 tablespoons. It adds up, because we tend to under estimate.

Make sure you're eating back at least some of your exercise calories. But I agree with everyone else- go by how your clothes feel!!! If your clothes fit better, you ARE making progress!!:flowerforyou:

I lost seven pounds and gained two back and I noticed a difference.

For two weeks I wasn't eating all of my calories plus I missed them between 400 - 1000 per day. I gained two pounds back.

I made sure that I was consuming my calories plus some of my exercise cal or most of my exercise calories, I'm down about a pound. so I guess my earlier estimate would be correct in how I was figuring out what was working for me and what wasn't working for me. So make sure you consume your cals and maybe plus some of your exercise cals.

Bob on the BL wasn't kidding about that.

Or it could be muscle gain. Consume as much water as possible. GL

thanks for the response. im trying to loose at least 2 pounds a week . im 5'4 and ive gained 56 pounds in the last 18 months. maybe casue i wasnt watching what i ate. Now i count everything . and i try to over compensate when im not sure ... that way i dont undercount and eat more than i think. my goal is to get back to 149 which is where i was 18 months ago. i really dont feel right eating the cals that i gain through exercise ....since i feel this defeats the purpose.
how many of my excercise cals am i suppose to eat??
ps im drinking min 10 glasses of water a day . and i have cut out the snacking.

    Consume 75 - 90 % of your calories

My intake for the day is 1740 and since I burned 547 calories so my intake is boosted to 2287.
I have to make sure I consume between 2100 cals minimum to 2180 cals today so my body doesn't freak out and start saving everything I consume.

watch your sodium and sugar intake, consume lots of water and exercise, and if you don't exercise then reduce the amount of cals consumed for the day.

    no exercise I would eat around 1540 - 1680 a day.

So take this example and make your adjustments, hope this helps

    Hey !

You know I had the same trouble - but then think about it - like by hogging lots for a week on ecannot gain 10 Lbs - same way in a week one would not loose the same.Point is the human body has a very complex mechanism ... its would not be controlled just by counting calories and exercising .... I think we all need to go slow and steady to win this race - give yourself some realistic goals like 10 Lbs in 3 Months time and then go with it !!@!
