Today was the day I’ve been working towards for the past several months! I went to a fabulous holiday lights display with a dear family member. We were enchanted and we had such a great time together.
🎄😊😀🎄
I started making plans for this in late summer or early fall, when I first saw an announcement for the event. The website said that the full event requires about a mile of walking… and there was NO WAY I could have done that at the time, so I set myself a goal to be able to walk a mile easily late November. After much training I checked off the goal on November 26, right on schedule
Today I walked far more than that one mile (Apple Watch says I got in 4.5 miles total!) and I feel great. I’m so happy I was able to do this. Not sure how I will feel tomorrow, because last time I walked 12,500 steps (November 26) it took me a couple days to recover, lol.29 -
Way to go, @takinitalloff !6

What a win, @takinitalloff !!!!!!!7

My weight has gone up but my collar bone area looks really good. I think my double chin will be gone soon19

Not a nsv, just---
I went to the grocery store. Tried to put my keys in my pocket. No pocket. These pants have pockets!
they're not new! I've worn 'em a million times and they have pockets! Found them! In the back. I had my pants on backwards. No way would I, COULD i ever have pulled those pants on backwards over my big ole bubble butt just a few months ago.20 -
I bought a blood pressure monitor a while back, because my blood pressure has been high and the nurse recommended I check it at home regularly. Well my upper arms didn’t fit into the cuff, so I bought a “bariatric cuff” which of course only came in a 5 pack 🙄 … anybody need one? 😂 and then that didn’t work very well because the shape wasn’t quite right for me.
This morning I decided to give this thing another try… surprise surprise, since I’ve lost almost 60 lbs in the meantime, the original cuff fits now! More frustration ensued before I finally managed to download the correct app, and get the machine talking to it, so that it will henceforth log the readings automatically. Believe me when I say that my blood pressure had increased by this point 🤣😇
… BUT nevertheless it was still in the normal range!!! I’m so happy. And now I can check it regularly in the mornings.28 -
Awhile back when I first got serious about losing weight and getting fit, my husband took me to a store where serious runners shop. I could barely run far enough on their track for them to check my gait, but with my husband's encouragment, I eventually left with some nifty Alta Torins that cost The Earth!!!
I was horrifed at the purchase and they stayed in the box for WEEKS as I debated returning them. After all, what business did "someone like me" have spending THAT much money on fancy running shoes when I didn't even run!!
Fast forward to this week when my chiropractor threw a hissy fit because those shoes I've been running in are WORN OUT!!! I really didn't believe him, but I just put on my new Alta Torins, and it's true! "Somebody like me" ran that old pair to DEATH!!
The new ones feel awesome. I can really tell a difference. Who knew?! Mind you I still walk/run most of the time. My running IS finally beginning to exceed my walking, but either way, I log the miles.
It's amazing to think I've become someone who wears out running shoes.31 -
Finally posted a progress picture I didn't hate. It's been years. Work in progress.22

@Atlas1325 Congratulations! Next up: a progress picture you kinda like? Or maybe one you love? Who can say what the future holds7

NSV - for the last 3 days I have only needed to inject 30 units of insulin for my type 2 diabetes, and my highest daily blood glucose reading ( I stick my finger 5 times a day) has stayed below 200! It got so bad last month that at one point I was injecting closer to 70units a day. And I can walk up the stairs one at a time, swinging my arms, not holding onto the handrail, and arriving at the top NOT out of breath!!!29

About a year ago, they built a new Wendy's about 1.5 miles from my house. Jr. Bacon cheeseburgers are absolutely my favorite fast food. When they built it, I said some day I will be strong enough to walk there and back. Today was the day! Easy-peasy getting there. Coming home, cold wind in my face. I'll check the wind as well as the temperature next time. Lol15

I went to a Christmas party with a huge spread of delicious-looking food and lots of booze... and didn't consume any of it. Instead I chatted with people, enjoyed the beautiful Christmas decorations, drank my refreshing water while everyone else got hammered (and started saying things they'd never say sober), and got a lovely heartfelt compliment from a neighbor, who has noticed my weight loss and improved fitness.
Then I went home, ate the healthy food I had planned for, and enjoyed the fact that I didn't feel stuffed and won't have to wake up with a hangover tomorrow. (Not that I've ever had much of a hangover.)
I could get used to this way of life26 -

Good for you to walk before savoring your Jr. Bacon cheeseburgers. I started a full-time job 6 hrs away and have been moving car loads every weekend and stopped for food. Today is the move-out from my old place. I put a batch of my favorite white macademia nut cookies in the oven because I was shocked to learn that McDo's chocolate chip cookies have 170 cals a piece. Mine only 90 cals. Also, I discovered Chicken McNuggets. I buy 20 and split them up in 3-4 sittings. I also find Triple Cheeseburger satisfying, it's got three patties on only one bun. I think it's possible to keep a balance between our cravings and calories, as your example shows, too.

NSV for today… after losing 38 lbs, TODAY, people finally noticed. Several people. And it felt great receiving all that positive reinforcement from close friends. I don’t know why that’s so important to me, but I’ve been kind of bummed that no one had noticed…. Today made up for all of that. 😋27
-
@mollypw1994 Congratulations! I'm so glad your friends are finally noticing I, too, got nothing but crickets until about 40 lbs in. Makes you feel like nobody even looks at you but it is so rewarding when people finally do take note! I'm so happy for you18

My weight is even lower! Just need to lose another 900g to be at my lowest weight in 7 years. I'm kind of bummed out, because I'm much bigger than I was at this weight last time, because I had more muscle mass. I'm wondering how much weight I will need to lose to look good, and if I will look healthy and lean without doing strength training. I wish I could afford a personal trainer. I'm thinking of taking up pilates, maybe that will help?12

Life has prevented me from going to the gym today like I'd planned, and I'm crawling the walls. Might as well consider that an NDV because otherwise I'm just restless!! 🤪😉10

This NSV really blew my mind!! 🤯 Mind altering!! I was "blessed" with large calves, not slim dainty ones. I have long over the knee socks...but my calves have always been the Monopoly Square that reads.....DO NO PASS GO! DO NOT COLLECT $200!! 🤨
It's always been a habit to fold my socks at the calves. I found this strangely uncomfortable yesterday and didn't know why. On a hunch, I pulled my socks higher. They easily slid OVER my knees!! 😃 I've lost SOLID FAT from my calves!! Lol 😆......no better time to notice than the dead of winter when long over the knee socks are extremely helpful with boots! Every little NSV is a step closer to a natural state of vitality. 😍20 -
I brought a belt about six weeks ago, and it was the biggest mens size (I'm a girl). I need to add new holes now :-)20
-
Got into a size 16 and 18 dress at Pagani (NZ) today and a size 18 jeans at Pagani. No need to shop at plus size stores anymore!!! I probably will though, because some of their clothing is beautiful and they have really good sales. (City Chic)13

I made a batch of buttermilk cornbread with Hatch green chiles yesterday. Two pans of corn sticks and two cornbread skillets. It came out pretty much perfect. Corn sticks were crispy and light. Triangles had crust on all sides and also light and crispy. I tweaked my process a little bit, and now I'm ready to make a double batch for New Year's that I can eat some and share most with friends and neighbors.
That's not the NSV. This is:
Not only was there some left this morning, but there's still going to be some left tomorrow and maybe even the next day. I wouldn't count on the next day though.
Secondary NSV: It didn't even need any additional butter, so I didn't add any.13 -
Had one and a half enchiladas instead of 3 or 422

I had a belt fit me last week that did not a month ago. I find myself not acknowledging the NSV. I need to celebrate those as well.24

1- I'm not sleepy 18 hours day.
2- I feel a little lighter on my feet which is a weird feeling and I love it.
3- I dont crave for carbonated drinks, sweets, chips and chocolates anymore.

During aquafit cooldown, a woman asked me how I was able to bend my leg like that. Before I could answer, she snorted and said,”Never mind. You’re young, that’s why”.
I wouldn’t have guessed there was much age difference between us. 😮16 -
Somebody posted photos from the ladies brunch I went to this morning. Now I'm in maintenance--thinner and fitter than I've ever been my whole life, but I STILL don't like how I look in most photos. I thought reaching goal weight would change that, but it hasn't. I can leave the house feeling SO cute only to have it TOTALLY ruined by one glance at a stupid photo. Very frustrating!!
So my NSV is that today I didn't turn away feeling terrible when I saw those photos. Instead, I stopped and took some time to examine how the OTHER ladies looked--ladies I KNOW are thin and pretty. And, you know what?? THEY didn't look any thinner or better than I did!! Those photos were simply unflattering, PERIOD. Not just to me. We were all sitting, eating, wearing bulky sweaters...nobody looked as good as I know they do in real life.
It was such a liberating thought. I can honestly say that's never occurred to me before. I always just felt ugly and that was that.
So that pretty feeling I had this morning?? That stupid photo did NOT take it away from me this time!! Yay!!28 -
Third-Party NSV:
Lunch and shopping with an MFP friend IRL today.
She tried on a long, slim jacket, and it was awesome to watch her light up when the sales lady said “Wow! You’re so slim and you have such a nice figure!”
It’s super nice to share a moment like that with someone you know has/is working so hard!
Not outing anyone, unless she wants to be. 😂21 -
@BrightEyedAgain I love your NSV. I've always thought you are quite beautiful: you look intelligent and curious, with a gorgeous smile and a pixie vibe that I find adorable. I'm glad you could see that it wasn't you who was "ugly," but rather just the setting and quality of the photo. Keep in mind also that most people aren't great photographers15

Thanks, all of you for your kind wirds. :blushing:8
