Sigh. I've got another one, but not sure I can call it a victory either.
Tonight is the third night in a row that I took some brie with wild mushrooms out of the refrigerator to come up to room temperature so I could enjoy it with some tasty crackers. It sat out a few hours, and was probably ready to go. I just put it back in the refrigerator. This is for sure a victory. Cheese AND crackers? Three nights in a row that I put them back? Not only that, but three nights in a row I could have fit them in my budget, but just really wasn't that hungry.
The part I'm not sure about is that I'm about 10% below my calorie goal for the week - an average of 214 calories a day not counting today. To be sure, I had several weeks I was over, but I really try not to under-eat - it's not healthy. I logged two ounces of cheese and two servings of crackers. It would have put me a little over for the day, but got me back on track for the week.
I will tell myself that maybe the calories my Garmin device has been reporting to MFP are too high, and I'm not actually that far under. If I ignored all exercise calories, I'd be 16% over. The scale has been working its way down for the past week, so I can't be over. I think I'm just full from beans, rice, and fresh vegetables.
Oh well.
Maybe I'll have cheese tomorrow. It's really good cheese. Not too long ago, I would have eaten the whole chunk AND the entire box of crackers even if I weren't really hungry.
OK, I guess I can call this a victory. Thanks for helping me talk myself through it.

My NSV is that I had to cut up the empty boxes in the garage.
“Old Me” used to just slit the tape and stand on ‘em. Voila! Job done.
“New Me” can no longer flatten them that way, so had to resort to box cutter.
Had the garage door been up, the neighbors would have been treated to the sight me of, standing on a pile of boxes, sliding off again and again, and laughing maniacally.18 -

That's funny because the other day I went by the recycling center and went scavenging for cardboard. I was actually looking for BIG panels, like from furniture ideally with no labels, not much tape, and no staples. I'm in the process of covering up my garden to try and eliminate the weeds that thrived last year when I let it go fallow. I usually take the tape off. They are usually already flattened. Most of the boxes I get at home are too small, but I use some to put underneath the holes in the big panels. I still have to flatten them. I'm massive enough to crush them, but if I'm flattening them I still tear off the tape and disassemble them. Every now and then I have to use my pocket knife to cut the tape, but usually I can just tear it.
I have a silly cartoon picture in my mind of you jumping up and down on a cardboard box and it not moving.4 -
I walked to my friend's house instead of taking the car. Walking took about 35 minutes at a quick pace -- and I got there and wasn't even tired??! So I decided to also walk back instead of taking public transport, got home, and STILL had energy left. I felt sooooo good!!22

Now that New Birthmas* is over, I feel ready and refreshed to start things off good. The NSV is that I have satisfied the desires and sweet tooth, and am looking forward to exercise and healthful nutrition choices!
*My birthday is Jan 5th so the holidays last a bit longer for me which I refer to as New Birthmas, to include New Year, Christmas, and Birthday16 -
I was standing in front of the bathroom mirror looking at my muffiin top. Wondering if it will ever go away, when, and will the loose skin it leaves behind be the same, but different. I noticed something. Thigh gap!
I've heard of that. Don't think I've ever personally seen it until today.18 -
A follow up on the cheese victory, and maybe even another one.
I took that wild mushroom brie out again this afternoon, then I went to do some chores.
I sliced off a two-ounce chunk, put it on a plate, put 1.5 servings of crackers on the plate, and sat down while I'm waiting for my supper. I found some wild rice in the pantry, so it's cooking now. When it was halfway done I put the delicata in the oven.
The rest of the cheese (four more ounces) got wrapped and went back in the fridge. The crackers (4.5 more servings) got sealed and put back in the pantry. I know I can leave it there for another day. The real question is... what will I do tomorrow?10 -
My wedding rings fit again! It’s been years since I was able to wear them. Feels awesome!

I met my calorie, water, protein, and workout goal everyday last week. I don't even remember the last time that happened.20

I'm not sure if this counts, but I'm now tracking my NSV's. I have a fitness bullet journal (which has been weirdly motivating) and it occurred to me that, since I'm about to head back to work, I might start forgetting all of the amazing progress I've been making each month. So, I'm setting up a NSV tracker. That way, at the end of each month, I'll have a lovely list of NSV's to look back on for inspiration ^_^23

@LenGray Same here! I've been keeping track of both my various goals over the months, and the NSV's I've achieved. I do like to read the list every once in a while, and I always get a kick out of moving another goal down to the "completed" list. Whatever it takes to motivate/inspire ourselves10

That’s EXACTLY how you should think of it!!!! And then get right back to plan today. You’ll find the one slip doesn’t make much difference as long as the vast majority of days are planned!16 -

I noticed today that my running jacket is a loose fit again. It zips without any awkward manoeuvring and covers my bum without hugging it. Gave me a boost when I had a hard time getting out the door 🙂14

My latest NSV is a pain in the butt, literally My tailbone hurts now when I sit too long. I guess all that nice padding is gone, lol
On a related note, the other night I slept on a harder mattress than usual and in one position my RIBS started hurting As in, I could feel my bones against the mattress! Not blubber, but bones!
I also feel actual muscles now when I touch various body parts. It's still weird (but rewarding!) to accidentally encounter a clearly discernible quad or biceps, rather than just the general layer of fat that used to cover everything.11 -

My NSV today was that when I made a frozen pizza for dinner, I only ate half of it. I was really hungry, but I took the time to see what fit in my calorie budget, logged that, and only grabbed the logged pieces. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I felt satisfied with half of what I usually eat. I also still have some calories left over for hot tea and cookies tonight!18 -

Way to go!!! This is one of my motivators right now. My husband knows I wear fakers, but I think he didn't know why or for how long I have been. The other night I had a new set on that he noticed, and he was sad when I told him that it's because my real ones don't fit, and haven't for years. We haven't talked about it since, but I think he was sad not because of the rings themselves, but because I am struggling and unhappy with my weight. Saddened by what the fakers represent.
So seeing your NSV gives me a boost and I hope I get to one day post my own pic of them on me!! Thank you for sharing!

I have two recent NSV's. Firstly......I have been consistently doing Yoga. An at home yoga practice, Yoga With Adriene...to stay fit over the Winter.
The NSV I am most proud of is wearing a slinky cocktail dress to the annual Christmas party....WITHOUT being encased in Spanx type undergarments first. 😆 Its a US Size 10. ( and I admit to being thrilled/stunned that my Size 14 cocktail dress now slips easily over my head without even unzipping it first!). Next stop..... Size 8 cocktail dress!!

I’m so very happy 😃. My A1C level is 5.5. I’m not even in the pre-diabetic range anymore. 11 months ago it was over 6, and I was diabetic.💃💃💃💃25

I have gone off the rails for three days, but somehow my weight has reached it's lowest in 7 years today, and below 105kg. I am mystifeyed.10

Just in case some people don't realize, a "NSV" means a non-scale victory. If you get good news from your scale, that's a victory. If your pant don't fit because they've got too big, or if your ring falls off, or if you can walk stairs effortlessly for the first time, that's a NON-SCALE victory.

I'll offer one. I went back to the gym yesterday for the first time this year. I was afraid of the crowds. They weren't bad at the time I went. I was able to do all my reps for all my exercises even though I am still keeping the weight dialed a little bit back and even though I only did two sets. Last time I went, I had trouble getting all my reps.
Today I went for a swim. I thought it might be tough the day after working out. Instead, when everyone else left the pool leaving it all to me, I decided that instead of 30 laps, I would do as many as 50 laps. I also agreed with myself that I'd stop at my planned 30 if other folks got in the pool. They did. My wrist device was lagging, and it showed me I needed one more lap, so I ended up with 31 laps (1550 yards). I think I could have done 19 more, but I also had some other things I wanted to get done, so I wrapped it up.21 -
I successfully did 1 pull-up. 1 complete, chin above the bar pull-up.💪 I didnt think I could do even 1 cause in the past I’d only been able to lift myself part way, but my hubby encouraged I try anyways, and I did it!!! 🙌27

THAT IS INCREDIBLE. I have never in my life done a pull-up. I can't wait to heal my inner child that hated PE in that way because of how everyone watched everyone do it all.

I have a pair of running shorts that have never seen more than a quick walk. They've been tight, and miserable to wear for months. The last time I tried them on, I decided I couldn't make it through the day in them.
BUT I put them on yesterday morning to go to the gym in - and they were COMFORTABLE. They only barely limited my range of motion. I teared up as I slid them in place. It felt incredible!24 -
I've been experimenting a bit with my daily calorie allotment. I've been eating between 1,300 and 1,500 calories a day since late summer. In early December I started being unreasonably hungry... after a while I started wondering what's going on, and eventually realized that I had upped my exercise by a lot in the interim (from 20-ish minutes/day to 50+ minutes/day). But I hadn't increased my daily calories! It seems the amount of food I was eating was no longer enough to fuel my activities.
I started to gradually increase my calories each week, but a few days ago I realized that this made no sense, because I was still hungry all the time. Who knows how long it would take me to get to my new "correct" amount of food? So was I going to continue inadvertently starving myself until I hit that number? No! That made no sense. So I calculated my maintenance calories for my goal weight, and gave myself that number as a daily limit. After three days of eating as much as I wanted within that limit, the never-ending hunger did indeed end. Next I will reduce my daily calories again, but not all the way back to the previous level.
I see three NSV's in all of this:- I've learned so much over the past several months! I no longer need to flail and fail! Thanks to my consistent food & exercise tracking over the past 6.5 months, when I realized that something was wrong, I was able to figure out what the problem was, and make changes accordingly. No problem, not even a hiccup.
- There was a small part of me that panicked a bit at the thought of losing control if I were to increase my calories. Would my old over-eating habits resurface? But it's been perfectly fine -- I still ate healthy, I feel better, and all went according to plan.
- Tonight I was eating my last meal for the day when I suddenly felt full. I still had plenty (maintenance) calories left... there was food left on the plate... it tasted good... "old me" totally would have cleaned the plate without a second thought. "New me" put the leftovers in the fridge for tomorrow, adjusted the food log, and called it a night.
