Best of luck with your TNCC certification.
I was a TNCC instructor a few years back and loved running those lectures and simulations.

1/9 128.0# Yesterday was long train ride home=sitting π«€. We managed to get a 30 minute walk in on a trail next to the station before the trip π£. Back to some normalcy today!
1/10 127.8# π§π₯ποΈββοΈ Fighting off a cold - rest day today.
1/11 127.6# π§π₯ Iβm still feeling under the weather. π Iβm super tired despite a ton of sleep. I have little tolerance for being sick- a waste of a day.
1/12 127.6# π§π₯ well I feel like Rip Van Winkle with sleeping the last couple of days. Iβm better today but still not firing on all cylinders. Did some mild strength training this AM to get muscles activated.
1/13 127.4# π§π£π₯ποΈββοΈ if I could I would only post 1 foot since my walk was less vigorous than usual but it was good for my mental health to get outside so Iβll take it. Not very hungry because I canβt taste anything and didnβt have my usual Friday night glass of wine.
1/14 127.0# π₯ποΈββοΈ Hydration wasnβt on target yesterday. Feeling almost back to normal todayπ
1/15 127.6# π§π₯ποΈββοΈ I felt pretty good yesterday AM and then came down with laryngitis yesterday afternoon. Argh! Pushing fluids!!!

SW RND 247
1/7 237.4 Started this round with a huge surge up. I took my husband for a night away to a lodge in the backcountry of the Rocky Mountains. We had some indulgences and it shows. Most of this will be water weight but it's time to get focused. We left the resort and did a nearly 8KM snowshoe hike before we came home so at least we got our activity today! Let's make some progress for this round!
1/8 239 Was really surprised to see another bump up today. I had a good day but rather than ride the bike tonight we got invited to have dinner at a friend's house last minute. The food was healthy enough.
1/9 235.2 Alright, there's the drop. I have a day of mostly unplanned food - a course where food is served, and then a corporate event with dinner out and then box seats at the Calgary Flames game. Will have to be smart about my choices.
1/10 235.6 Did good at the hockey game with the dinner out before last night. Came in just short of my steps. The deep cold is setting in here and there is lots of new snow that fell overnight.
1/11 237 Boy this round is all over the place. Last night I got home late as we're under an extreme cold warning, got snow, and the commute was long. So, I did miss my workout. I have therapy after work today so it'll be another long day out of the house with windchills that feel like -40C. Yikes!
1/12 234.8 Working from home today but we do have to go out tonight to curl. I am planning to eat at home so I don't eat restaurant food. There will be some beer that I'll plan for.
1/13 232.4 Stayed on plan not eating the restaurant food last night. Did have a bit more alcohol at home than planned and that led to some unplanned chips too. Overall so far this month I've drank on less days and that definitely helps. Today is a rest day at home.
1/14 237 Felt hungry all day yesterday. Clearly by the wild swing there is lots of water retention and other stuff going on. I felt lazy and sat on the couch most of the day. I did do some cleaning and started my day that way too so that's good at least.
1/15 235 Yesterday was an on track day. Diary closed under target, all food tracked, water drank, exercise complete. We had a great weekend despite the extreme cold. Go Bills!

@Zaxa2021
@SModa61 nailed it. I honestly canβt think of anything to addβ¦ Except I canβt remember who said this in our challenge, βweighing is informationβ. That statement really clicked for me because the fluctuations on my scale were previously causing an emotional roller coasterβ¦ When I choose to βοΈ now, there is no a surpriseβ¦ Iβve been βοΈconsistent enough over the past five months to know I can predict what the scale will read each time.
Iβve also noted that βactionsβ are the lead indicator, and the scale is the βlagβ indicatorβ¦ Everything between is information to synthesize regarding your body. Once you know your bodyβs individual temperament and sensitivitiesβ¦. The scale becomes meaningless. Sticking to your plan is what matters!!! Heck, I donβt need the scale to tell me Iβve gained weightβ¦ And I donβt need the scale to tell me Iβve lost weight. (I know my actions!) Onward!
I say all that now, but the next few months will be really interesting for me because Iβve never tried to βgain muscleββ¦ So I have to pay special attention to nuances. I guess I need to look at myself NAKEDin the mirrorβ¦ OMG OMG!! ! Iβve been successfully avoiding that for YEARS! π€£π€£π€£
@Zaxa2021 @Cchassee I have no idea if I am the one saying "weighing is information" but it is the type of thing I say from time to time. I LOVE data. I probably missed my calling in life because I never put it to use really in a career. Scale is data. Tracking is data. Mental, or written, notes about life is data. I like the every day tracking (personal for me) as it keeps reinforcing my understanding of what to expect. If I have a scale surprise, like this morning. If I actually sit and think, I did not track yesterday and I made junk choices, but as I add it all up in my head, total calories were actually in range (full disclosure - eight 100 calorie ice creams were included yesterday.....) So the scale makes sense. Lastly, I will say that being menopausal has the definite scale perk of no more confusing hormonal input.10 -
Round 247
January 7 - 16, 2024
62 year old female, 5β5β. I am married, semi-nomadic (we live in three states, Mass, Maine, Florida).
SW WW Sept 29, 2001 - 168.8 (initially lost 29.8, became staff, then weight up and down 18 years with low of 126.8)
SW MFP Sept 14, 2020 β 153 (lost 40, then stress took off another 2.2 lb with low of 120.8, then stress became gain)
SW MFP Jan 1, 2023 β 146.6
GW Maintaining between 124 - 126
Continuing to figure out maintaining, and to work on best nutrition and exercise.
History:Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two βkidsβ, who are very much adults, a DGS, and second GS on the way. We have three parents, 88(father), 86(mother), 84(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an βall in or notβ person. Hubby and I seeing our family home and downsizing distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse. A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

Day/Weight/Comment
1/7 β 127.8 I did eat some βextrasβ, though I tracked them and were reasonable. The calories were also compensated by my walking yesterday morning. My extras evolved after I had my first cocktail in three months (I rarely drink as I prefer food calories over alcohol). Something for me to keep in mind.
1/8 β 128.2 My numbers were good yesterday, so no concern about the up. Walked with the girls in the AM (3 laps), then just a general busy day.
1/9 β 127.8 Yesterday, was an off day, but I did track everything. Even with walking I was over on my calories. But glad I went ahead and tracked and was therefore informed.
1/10 β 129.2 Calories were on target for both myself and hubby, both of us up this morning. Me 1.4 lb, and hubby 1 lb. Both of us had commented on how salty dinner was last night. We are assuming that is the cause and tomorrow will be normal again.
1/11 β 128.4 Not fully back down. I somewhat wonder if any of the numbers relate to having to put in new batteries in the scale a couple days ago.
1/12 β 129.0 this one makes sense. I allowed myself a stress response and did an untracked binge. I was at least cautious the rest of the day, but obviously it did not mitigate the mistake.
1/13 β 128.0 Made it through yesterday. Went out to each, but pre-tracked and ordered my βgo toβ for that restaurant. The Tuna Tataki entrΓ©e with no included soup/salad, or sides. That with only half a glass of wine, had me in a safe position to face unknown βdessert and libationsβ back at a friends home after. Everything tracked. Only negative is that I did not do any exercise yesterday. Heading for my walk in 3 minutes.
1/14 β 127.6 Basically back where I was 5 days ago, Iβll just be happy if I finish the round lower than I started. Did not track at all yesterday. Did not have the mental capacity. Today is a good catch up day that started with a 90 minute walk.
1/15 β 127.2 Undeserved. Second day no tracking, and made poor diet choices. But I think the overall quantity was not bad.

Iβve upped daily cal intake to find out what happensβ¦ BMR is 1375β¦ thinking 1500-1600 on non-workout days is maintenance . Macros MUST be in check. Iβm not really counting calories, but they show up as I log macrosβ¦ Trying to gain muscle& lose fat simultaneously is a huge challenge - perplexed. Daunted.
PREMIUM FOR YOU?! There was AC brief discussion regarding whether or not to upgrade to MFP premium⦠I highly recommend it⦠Customized Goals, Reports, trends, articles, notes. I find huge value if you want to use data to guide your efforts.
Thereβs also been brief discussion as to βobsessingβ over / too much focus on your health journey, specific foods, etc. My thought: Whatβs more important than becoming who you want to be? Isnβt being mindful important? You have to WANT IT BAD thoughβ¦ π Maybe βobsessingβ is a step in the journey that must be takenβ¦ to get to the other side? Hmmmm
I guess Iβm trying to pump myself for this next stepβ¦. Iβm no longer obsessing over what to eat or what not to eat. Iβm now obsessing over ποΈββοΈποΈββοΈποΈββοΈ. Hahaha I also think all of us know whatβs best for us individually. The challenge is finding the strength, discipline & fortitude to do the hard work! Iβm working on multiple β s!
FYI: I use the Renpho scale. My BF% and Visceral fat is way off compared to the more accurate InBody scan.=(Worse)

1/13 Yesterday: β macros & 1525 cal, πΆββοΈ3.3k, 38 total ex min, π₯234 ex cal, πZ2 - 20min. β ποΈββοΈπββοΈ No long walk. Afternoon nap. Glorious.
I actually enjoyed ποΈββοΈπββοΈπ€ΈπΌ this morning. What a positive! Itβs still a challenge to talk myself into ποΈββοΈπ€ΈπΌπββοΈ. Not easy. Itβs mental gymnastics each timeβ¦. Will force it again today. I havenβt thought much about the scaleβ¦ Iβm guessing number between 130β132 depending on fluctuations. Iβve been β with macros, π¦ & calories. I feel βevenβ because Iβve been π― on plan. Hoping a little muscle transformation is in progress!π)
I know itβll be a VERY long haul to change body compositionβ¦ Also, reading that on days that I π₯ fewer than 400 cal, I really need to stick to no more than 1500 cal a day. My metabolism is still SUPER slow. (Slower than any person I knowβ¦) Thatβs why ποΈββοΈ is so important for my personal progress.
Today: πββοΈπ€ΈπΌποΈββοΈ & πΆββοΈFive mile dedicated walk. π₯Ά&π§οΈ on its wayβ¦. Probably π«outdoors for most of the week! Prepare!

I ate well today, but I had three full meals (unusual). My BIL spent the night with us last night and we enjoyed a big early breakfast this morning⦠Stayed w/in macros, but portions a little up. The yo-yo is exhausting & unhealthy. Takes up way too much brain space.
I learned MY choices created an emotional π’ roller coaster with yo-yo weight and fitness. My forever goal is to maintain approx. 130lbs and IN SHAPE. Pretty clear that once I reached a goal weight I would then relax/ drift backwards. So glad 145lbs was the max over the last nine years.
I also noticed that as I age it becomes much, MUCH more difficult to lose weight. I could lose 15lbs easy in 8 weeks up to 2020ish β¦ This is absolutely not true anymore!
While active with πΆββοΈ& πΎ itβs clear a ST routine is absent. Time to incorporate ST ποΈββοΈ as my TRUE focus.

Yesterday was good, calories in line (1190) and minimal snacking.
01/08 - 192.2
This is so demoralizing. Iβve been below 1400 calories for 5 days. Yesterday I had 1329 annd nothing crazy. Obviously I have to go lower to lose, but thatβs what got me into this mess, a very restrictive elimination diet during which my daily calories were around 1,000. Iβm very discouraged.
01/09 - 192.2
I went out for my regular Monday lunch with my friend, but had a salad with grilled chicken and avocado, no dressing, so I behaved myself. Then vegetarian chili (Moosewood fiesta chili) for dinner. Good day.
01/10 - 192.2
Another morning with no change after a day of responsible eating. It has to budge sometime!
01/11 - 192.2
I had a mini binge last night, but am back on track this morning. Yesterday wasnβt a complete mess thoughβI had lots of protein, no saturated fat, and lower carbs than usual. For a while Iβve been having one slice of Daveβs Killer Bread thin sliced with a Tbs of fruit-only spread for breakfast, but Iβm stopping that, starting this morning with an over-easy egg cooked with 0 calorie avocado oil spray. It was delicious, and makes me feel the day isnβt already wasted. π
01/12 - 191.8
Not exactly a whoosh, but Iβll take it!

Today should be good. I had a solid healthy breakfast, and weβre going to friendsβ house for late lunch/early dinner of homemade veggie beef soup. Sheβs also trying to lose, so is conscious of that. We signed our new wills yesterday, which is a big looming βthingβ weβd put off for ages, so thatβs good to have off our minds. Itβs bitter out todayβ25F, wind chill 7, big wind gusts, so no walk. Happy Saturday, all!

I had two cookies yesterday at my friendβs house, but otherwise I ate responsibly. Going out for lunch, planning to have Greek salad.

This is my busiest work season, and I also need to use my free time to prep for a professional exam at the end of February. But today I have scheduled 3 mini-walks during the work day. My dog is absolutely delighted with all the extra walks.9 -

SW RND 247: 137.2
1/7: 134.1. Not sure why I had the random spike yesterday, but I'm glad it came back down. I did a 6 mile run and eating was good. I had another sleepless night last night, thanks to one of my boys, so today is going to be another rough day, I'm sure. I'm going to still try to run tonight, but I know I'm going to be exhausted, making it really easy to talk myself out of it.
1/8: 134.0. I would LOVE to be in 133 zone, but I guess not today. I was tired but forced myself to go to the gym and run 4 miles. I also went for a walk, even though it was a bit cold, 50Β°F, but I'm near the Phoenix area so not used to the cold lol.. I was worried my boys were getting too cold, so kept it short. I'm proud of myself for getting some exercise even though it was really tempting to skip it yesterday.
1/9: 134.0. Well at least it's not up. Food was good, went for a walk and a run. Little short on sleep last night- not sure why my boys are sleeping so bad lately. But that's okay, I'm still planning on exercising today.
1/10: 132.5! I'm so happy. I spent most of yesterday morning going pee, and woke up this morning to a woosh! I've been very carefully counting calories, which I tend to get lazy on, and this is the result! Ran 4 miles last night. I really hope this number sticks around (or continues to drop).
1/11: 132.8. Close enough, I'm happy with it essentially staying the same as yesterday. I upped my run and did 5 miles, which felt pretty good. Continuing to weight food and count calories.
1/12: 134.4. I was hungry yesterday so I ate a bit extra. Ran 3 miles.
1/13: 139.0. I just have to laugh at the big swings. I had a couple of beers last night with some friends and ended the night with McDonalds. I started this morning with a 6 mile run. And today's my husband's birthday so we'll probably go out for dinner. I'll try to make good choices and hopefully this weight will come off quickly.
1/14: 139.6. meh. Honestly, this is quite embarrassing. I can see a few pounds because of the last couple of days eating, but 7lbs in a couple of days? I know it's not all fat gain and it'll come off, but still feel a bit discouraged.
1/15: 133.8. I'm happy it's coming off so quickly. I was expecting it to take a few days. Yesterday was a good day, did a 6 mile run and food was good.

Goals for this round to, to stay strong through holiday, log food each day as best I can and try to not gain any weight.Achieved goal weigh of 125lb in summer 2016 by losing 66lb and then gradually gained between 7 and 11 since then & didn't want to gain any more, itβs taken me 75 rounds to achieve target of 130 = back to maintenance!! 1/7. DNW - 8.15 miles walked yesterday, a combination of around the airport before the flight and then around the resort after we arrived. I tried to keep sensible, and have tried to over estimate rather than under the meals prepared but by me, so reckon I was 500 calories over yesterday.
1/8 DNW - 10 .35 miles walked yesterday, wore different sandals and ended up with blisters on heels after 8 miles, luckily always carry plasters!! All but 89 calories eaten back.
1/9. DNW - 11.19 miles walked, all but 206 exercise calories eaten back.
1/10 DNW - 16.2 miles walked yesterday, 38,800 steps, 85% exercise calories eaten back.
1/11 DNW - 9.67 miles walked, all but 100 exercise calories eaten back.
1/12 DNW - 11.59 miles walked yesterday, 80% exercise calories eaten back. Saw this quote, it rang a chord with me!
'It's the job that's never started, the one which takes longest to finish '
J.R.R Tolkien
1/13. 11.01 miles walked, all but 41 exercise calories eaten back.
1/14. 11.02 miles walked including hiking up the local extinct volcano, all but 32 exercise calories eaten back. Fly back home later today.
1/15 143.8 β well I have to say I am pleased with this, the same weight as I finished the last round with!! It wasnβt what I expected although my resting heart rate has actually come down a little whilst we have been away which is usually a good indication of my weight. We did plenty of walking but I did indulge in 1 or 2 adult drinks each day whilst away β sangria is my weakness and also a few sweet treats!! Now I am back home and in control of food prep. again I am feeling ready to get back to it and lose some pounds, I need to not self sabotage, only I can do this!! And I want to try to find some exercises to help attack my βback fatβ !! Managed almost 7 miles walking yesterday before we had to leave for the airport, 60% exercise calories eaten back.

@quiltingjaine I use the Ketonix breath ketone analyzer. From Ketonix (translated into English):
βBreath Ketones are proportional to the ketones produced by the liver. The more breath ketones you have, the more fat is metabolized into ketone energy.
Blood Ketones are formed by the cells when other fuel becomes available. They can then be used when the other fuel becomes low. Blood ketones is only of interest to people that have type 1 Diabetes, as their cells can not convert the blood ketones into energy again when blood sugar is high. The blood ketones accumulate and the blood becomes acidic.
People with a normal production of insulin does not have this issue. Blood ketone levels will at first be high due to lack of adaptation to create and use them. By time blood ketone levels become low when the cells adapted.
Regardless the level of adaptation, breath ketones indicate the breakdown of fat into ketone energy.β
I canβt speak to blood ketone measurement. I can say that breath analysis has been consistent for me as a measuring tool.

01/14 -183.0- (Trend weight 181.2) No TMI x 3 so I had to pull out the orange Metamucil stuff thatβs been sitting in my cabinet. Also, I have been weighing in wearing a much longer and heavier nightgown than normal since its extra cold and snowy in northern Michigan. Yes, I do weigh in wearing my jammies as it puts me closer to what my doctor will see when I have appointments. DD and DGS pretty much still snowed in here. Today we are planning a big spiral ham for dinner that she got from work for Christmas. We are going to try our hand at a new recipe for βsmashβ potatoes. I guess you thickly cut potatoes much wider than steak fries, microwave to soften, smash them down with a fork individually then air fry. Potatoes are a bit of a luxury for me so I will enjoy dinner but it sounds like a lot of sodium! Iβll try to push water today but itβs always a challenge as I prefer my coffee until evening. Funny thing about my new scaleβ¦. The weight is higher and the fat % higher, but the visceral fat is lower and so at least I have something to celebrate!
01/15 -183.4- (Trend weight 181.3) I feel like the number should be higher after that salty and starchy ham dinner yesterday complete with potatoes, gravy, dinner rolls and more. I didn't exercise yesterday either to help me burn any of it off. But I need a rest day every now and then. Hopefully the scale wonβt creep up even higher tomorrow on the final weigh-in.
