Oh, what is that old Star Wars platitude about "do or do not, there is no try"? ;)

If you change your habits in sensibly moderate ways, have patience, and persist, you will lose that 50 pounds. (I did.) The results will be more than worth the effort in improved quality of life, I predict. (They were, for me.)

There are plenty of ways to fail. One common one is thinking it's essential to lose weight fast, and that the way to do that is extreme, restrictive eating rules, and miserable, punitive exercise. That's a trap. Pretty much no one is sticking with that kind of unpleasantness long enough to lose a meaningful total amount of weight, let alone stick with it forever to stay at a healthy weight.

Fatness is not a sin we need to expiate by suffering through unpleasant eating and miserable "exercise". Reasonably happy new habits - or at least tolerable/practical ones - are a more sustainable way to go. Keep experimenting until you figure those habits out, then stick with them. Experiments that go poorly are not personal failures: We've learned a useful thing, and know to try another different tactic. Keep working at it, don't quit, and you'll succeed with your goal. Not quitting is key.

    Just my opinion, though.

Cheering for you to succeed: The results are worth it. And welcome to the MFP Community!
