exercise database

I feel like there needs to be a lot more different exercises in the database because if it isn't something completely generic like walking or running, you're not gonna find it. and I don't know how many calories I burned while doing my timed workout, its on time intervals and not on set amounts or reps.

    Thanks for your feedback on this! We're continually working on adding exercises to our database.

    There are always some exercises that vary for each individual, making the calories burned difficult to calculate accurately. We like to research each exercise before adding it to our database, making sure we have the most precise formula. This formula is based on an average. Once we have this formula, we will add the exercise into our database.

    If you know roughly how many calories you are burning with a device like a heart rate monitor or activity tracker, you can override the calories burned field by tapping directly on it and then put in your information. You can also add a new exercise yourself, just go to "cardiovascular" and then "create new exercise." Your estimate will be added to your personal database, and not the main database.

    If you don't want to use a heart rate monitor or similar device, you can make a rough estimate. This won't be as accurate as an activity tracker. To do this, you can try substituting another exercise already in our database.

    If you are interested in an activity tracker, you may want to look into our third party integrations. Several of our integrations offer solutions for monitoring your calorie burn over the course of the day and can update your MyFitnessPal calorie goals based on this data.

    ​Alternatively, we have also recently added a new "Workout Routines" feature (only available in English for now) that allows you to build an entire gym routine from a large database of both strength and cardiovascular exercises. Users wanting to add a new multi-part exercise may want to try adding a Workout Routine instead of creating a separate exercise.     Please add the YMCA E Gym system. It is machines that adjust to each persons abilities to do different machines for strength training. Leg Press, Leg Extensions, arm curls etc. Most of the YMCA's have 10 plus machines. It take about 20 mins to get through the machines. Most people do the 2 sets of the machines. Which takes about 30-40 mins in total.

    @brandice65, it might be reasonable to log these as either "Strength training (weight lifting, weight training)" or "Circuit training, general" in the cardiovascular part of the MFP database.

    The "strength training" one would be more appropriate if you rest between exercise stations. (You would still log the whole clock time, including normal short rests.) The "circuit training" one would be more appropriate if you move from machine to machine without rests, or with short cardio intervals in between stations.

    @AnnPT77 - it is you do a machine for 90 seconds, move to the next machine it takes about 20 seconds to reset for the last person for you to do your 90 seconds and so on. They do call it strength training. You do not have time to stop between machines it you want to keep up with your circuit rountine. I am adding walking in water and doing water exercises to get the cardio side in. Thanks for your info. Hope you are doing well.
