Delete Duplicate and Incorrect Foods

The number of duplicate and incorrect entries across all food types is staggering, and the problem continues to build, making it more and more difficult to log food accurately.

It would be great if MFP would make moderating and/or cleaning up duplicate and incorrect food entries using an algorithm a priority.

Hello! We very much understand where you're coming from.

There is a lot of work being done to clean up the database while not gutting the work other users have done to help grow the database. Some things are more straight forward but huge tasks, like updating all the "avacado" to "avocado", to complicated issues like ensuring that we have relevant and comprehensive serving sizes.

So while I don't have a time line I can share at this point. I can assure you that the team are aware of the issues and looking into the best solution for everyone. We understand the inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we work on getting this resolved.

Please make a deal to link to the government’s Food Data Central database of nutritional values. It is shocking how bad the quality of the crowdsourced food data is, and the number of people who think solid objects measured in milliliters and 1 piece is a unit of measure.

Not to mention the vast number of items that I cannot enter in grams. Sigh.

This is why I do not use crowdsourced foods, and add all my own (though I do not share so as not to add to duplicates).

Measurements should be standardised and ideally metric. As a UK user I have no clue what a "cup" is or even what ounces are!
