Cloudy here during eclipse,,, I remember the 2017 one. It was sunnier and we got about 80% I remember looking at the shadows..3 -
Beth: Hugs and strength to you as your mom's dementia steals away her quality of life. It's awful to watch.
Carol: My sympathy on the loss of your brother.
Lisa: Thanks for the link for compression socks. I think with the amount of time I spend standing at my job I should have gotten these a year ago.
Heather: So glad you are on the path towards new hips and getting back to your best life.
Tina: Hope you find a flexible part-time job that gets you out, feeling productive and having fun.
I spent my normal gym time cleaning up my deck after 2 days of severe windstorms. No trees down, but lots of trash and dirt to sweep and dump. Then I had lunch outside on my hammock chair and watched the eclipse crescent while eating my lunch. Not my first eclipse, so not really such a rush.
Weight is still 4 pounds over what I was at Thanksgiving, but slowly moving in the right direction. Not eating at night seems to be an absolute must.
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Michele - how are you doing today after your tumble? Hope you were able to get in to see your doctor - I wonder if your sciatica is related to the calluses on your foot? Meaning your gait being off a bit.
Beth - glad your mom is doing better today. I hope Thursday's meeting gives some good direction regarding your mom's care. WOW on your eclipse experience! Exciting to "see" it.
In the Hospice Nurse Julie video I linked earlier, she mentions the staircasing decline associated with dementia, sometimes caused by infection like a UTI. My DH had a UTI or some type of infection about 6 months before he passed, it made him "loopy" and his memory took a sharp decline almost overnight, plus he wasn't able to make it to the toilet and would pee on the floor. He didn't remember that.
I thought he'd had some kind of a TIA or stroke - I couldn't drag him to the doctor. But after speaking to his doc, we deduced it must have been a UTI. My DH stabilized after that for several months and no more bathroom accidents, but never recovered back to where he was prior to this. When I watched this video, it gave me goosebumps.
Even tho my DH wasn't in hospice, his decline seemed to be following this pattern she describes.

Can you put the fern outside in the pot during the spring and summer and inside during the cold months? Then you could enjoy it all year long. Bright green in the winter would be nice to see.
What a great idea - I think I'll do that - put them in the pot in the flowerbed! I'd like to think I would have thought of that, but I probably wouldn't... thanks, Debbie...7 -

So... I was outside at totality, I took pictures with the selfie side of my phone, like Tina I was just trying not to look at the sun, and wanted to! Didn't work. The pics just look like the sun. The birds never stopped singing, Egg was inside getting a snack when I walked back in. I tried wearing Corey's welders helmet to look at the sun, just gave me an instant headache from the weight. 🤷🏻 I dunno.
Anyway - smelling like leather and sweat and dirt at the moment, but after two hours, I decided I like the bricks with the German schmear (thank you Barbara, I'll use that later with Corey... 😀). After I got all the mortar cleaned off around it, I was able to get all that detritus in the dumpster... then I took an hour to pull some siding off under the carport. I told Corey I would pull everything off that I could reach. Not as much as he probably thought, as I think he thinks I'm six feet tall.
Later, y'all,
Love,

My son is taking welding classes(taking the test for the union next month)
He said he used his welding helmet to look at it- was just a partial eclipse here. I didn't notice any of it(we were out shopping)

Forgot to get my check in info to Lanette today, but am happy to report that I am within .2 of a pound from where I was at the end of March, so headed in the right direction again!
Very cloudy here today, so didn't notice the eclipse at all, we only had a partial anyway, so.... I do remember the one in 2017, it was kind of neat, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be running off somewhere to get a better view.

Morning all. Just a quick log in as I’m off out this morning.

I rang that number this morning. Wrong department.
So I rang the post sales number. Got through to a very nice young woman, who told me the claim had been processed on the 26th March, when I first rang them, and all my worries about them accepting it were pointless. The GP secretary rang me this morning, and I said I would let her know if I needed more evidence. So I don't.
The credit card I paid the deposit with is out of date, so they are sending me a cheque in the post! That never happens over here. The balance will be a bank account refund. She said wait until the 17th before you enquire again if it hasn't arrived.
I must say I have no faith in the postal service, so we will see.
The young man at the wrong department did give me the number for the medical screening people, so I can ring them, when I have recovered, about the October cruise. Part of me just wants to cancel, the other part thinks it would do me good and be a celebration. The other side is, it is a very expensive cruise and the money would go towards the second hip.
At least things are moving forward.
The total eclipse sounds amazing!

I can hardly walk at all now, and the advice is to stay off your hips as much as possible. I limp around the house and can walk 100 yards with my cane. I crawl up the stairs on all fours, and come backwards down them.
I am doing floor exercises as much as possible, that are not stressing my hips.
30 Knee pushups, a plank or two, micro bridges for glutes, kneeling back waves, and a couple of limb raises, sitting back on haunches, upward raising legs, back flexibility stretches, plus squeezing a cushion between my knees, and using a band to widen my thighs. Then I downward dog to get up and do some balance and left leg bouncing. Then a bit of 7kg dumbbells, while I'm sitting down. Bicep curls and overhead.
My upper body is good. I can rise from a chair easily without hands, and I can bend to the ground from the waist. It is just my hips.
All through the day I am squeezing my glutes and stretching my legs. Foot exercises all the time. I do not want to lose strength. But walking is not recommended.
I have to severely limit ibuprofen for my kidneys and the Ramipril I am on. I do take it once a day with lunch. I take a combo of pills in rotation. Aspirin, paracetamol, codeine. At nught i use a heated mini blanket. Without any painkillers I cannot function and am in despair. With them, life looks much better.

I would have thought that walking on a flat surface would be easier on the hips than crawling up and down stairs. Articles I have read and physiotherapists I have talked to all indicate that exercise does not make osteoarthritis worse, and despite the pain, can improve the situation or at least keep it from getting any worse. Different perspectives from different parts of the world, I guess.
Wheelchairs would be expensive, but you might see if you can rent one of these for the next month or so.
@bwcetc & @1948CWB ... so sorry about your family members.Machka: I used to fence with Tim. He took it up in middle school. He started doing tournaments where, as a loving and dutiful mother, I would carry his equipment around from piste to piste for him. One time he said that I must do that because I can’t fence. WELL. Challenge accepted! Must say it was very therapeutic standing on the opposite side of a piste with a foil in my hand aimed my son. LOL
Make it a great day,

I'm enjoying it! We're just about finished the beginner course and the next step is to go and fence with the club. I don't feel like I'm very good yet but then again, maybe if I fenced against ladies my age ... ??
I'm looking for a shrug or something to provide a little extra padding across the upper chest and upper arm. I took a bit of a hit on both on the weekend - bruises.LisaInArkansas wrote: »Machka - Looking at the paint samples, one of the things Corey and I decided on is keeping the paint colors bright white in the areas where we need to see well, like the bathroom and the kitchen, and then light ivory elsewhere. All the color in the house is brought in by furnishings of one kind or another, other than the kitchen, where the original lower cabinets are a deep teal. Paint, for me, has to do with maximizing light as I get older, other than in the bedroom, which I want to be able to completely darken. Regarding the floor, sounds like you have good advice.
Whatever we go with will be pale ... very light. We're looking at these two colours (which might look different on your monitor than they do on the paint cards I've got, depending on your settings). One is a very light blue-grey and the other is a very light pink-brown. And I might even want to go slightly lighter than whichever one we choose.
Maybe like the light blue in the first two pictures in this link (or lighter) ...

Or like this (or lighter than this):
Or maybe pinkish like this, but lighter ...LisaInArkansas wrote: »Heather - I cannot imagine crawling up and down stairs as an option. Sounds painful in and of itself. I do not doubt that you'll come out of the surgery exceeding all expectations for recovery time and extent. The differing advice on different sides of the pond is a little unnerving - every message you can find here says to walk as much as you can before hip replacement, but you're being told not to walk over there. Who's right? Maybe both are right and what matters is what you do after? I don't have a good answer for that.
Yes, exercise (walking) is emphasised here too.
Above is the kitchen - he extended the tile on the right side as well after dinner and just left the paver bricks at the very back of the grill. He'll be picking up some trim to finish the backsplash this week. I'm pleased with it, I think it's a very olde-worlde kind of design and picks up the teal in the back wall. There are still a few things to get done, but it's a comfortable room already.
And the fern will go at the far end of my flowerbed once I've got some dirt in it. I might have to cover it in the winters, but I think it will look gorgeous in there for the spring and summer. We'll see...

Very nice!I love the artwork you all share. Machka, those markers look cool. What are they? Maybe I'll try them. I still need hobbies. I did buy a puzzle early in the year and had a goal to get it put together before baseball season started. I did. Now I need something else. Maybe drawing or coloring. I don't like messy things, so painting isn't my bag.
Tina in CA, trying to remember not to look at the sun today. It's really sunny!

Good morning!
With all the Eclipse excitement here I forgot to check in with Lanette. I am status quo from last week. As stressful as last week was I am excited to not have gained!
We had clear skies for viewing. One of the mechanics took pictures . The quiet that occurred along with the bright orange on the horizon were cool. I am glad to have been able to see it, but wouldn't have traveled for it.
Carol Hugs and sorry for your loss
Beth Hugs as you travel this journey with your mom. Dementia is such an awful thing for the family for sure.
Heather I am glad your plans are coming together. Prayers for less pain and quick recovery.
Machka So exciting following your home owner journey.
Lisa Love all of your improvements!
I wanted to share something. My Sister in law actually told me she appreciates all I do at work and knows I am tired! She just doesn't know how to fix that. I was shocked! Things that would need to change to bring in young blood though would include getting rid of the current mechanics (bad attitudes and habits), cleaning and organizing the shop, putting in computers in the shop area, change in attitudes about training(!), documented vacation and sick day policy, lunch times, and less micro managing . List seems massive but is doable, but not sure the owners have the energy or attitude to make those changes. Hopefully can continue for a few more years anyway. Independent dealers are dropping left and right due to lack of mechanics and stricter requirements from manufacturers as well as mass merchants.
Better get my day started!
Thankful for spring rains.
Love the new beginnings that are happening like flowers and budding trees as well as the pretty green grass!
Grateful to have you all in my life sharing and caring!
Have a great day knowing you are loved and thought of often!

Good morning ladies!
I have to dig back into my father's finances today because we have an appointment with the estate planning lawyer tomorrow. Plus there are chores that have been waiting for me, regarding consolidating accounts.
Dad made an interesting comment yesterday. He asked if we had an advisor. I said ME! I have the MBA. Then he said it would be great if he could just turn it all over to someone. I said we have to update the powers of attorney, he could just turn it all over now. I don't know how he feels today, but he is getting closer. Now if I could get him to give up driving! And then not walk so far. All in good time.
Beth thinking of you and your mom. It's so hard to deal with our parents. Dad still treats me like a child. When he grew up, women weren't allowed to have their own credit cards.
My book is getting into mind games: how to answer that little voice that says it's okay to eat more. In a nutshell, you write out an answer when you are feeling strong, then refer to it when you feel weak. It helps. I'm getting better at resisting food at home. Last time I was worried about Dad I didn't eat my feelings.
On the other hand, I've been craving strawberry ice cream. I'm going to try this Nick's swedish lite ice cream today. So I have to save some calories for that. 67 calories per half cup.
Have a marvelous day ladies! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

Annie - As always, respect the way you keep hanging in there with your dad. Wish I had advice, but can only offer support.
Rori - The compression socks are making a huge difference for me! Hope they help you, too. Didn't know how much of the pain from walking and working outside was because of the swelling around my ankles. I'm even able to wear my tennis shoes again! It had gotten unbearably painful to wear them because of the impact on the ankle swelling. Hope they're helpful to you as well. The second set I ordered were with llamas, cats and sloths on them, and weirdly, they're distinctly tighter! They help even more though, but are a little harder to get on.
Kylia - I think it's wonderful that your sister-in-law told you how much you're valued. We all need to hear it, and you needed to hear it from her, especially, I think.
Got one bored kitty on my hands for the next couple days, and I've got a few things I plan to do inside, as we're socked in with rain into Thursday. I worked all told about three hours outside yesterday, and broke a real sweat for the first time since last summer! Throwing rocks around will do that to you.
But while I'm inside, since my friend will be bringing her RV the first week of May, and we won't be putting them up in the house, I can go ahead and start work on what is now the spare bedroom area and start pulling down the drywall. I'll be putting it all in garbage bags and it will go out to the roll-off dumpster once it's dry enough to run my little lawn tractor and trailer over the ground outside, but I can finally get started!
First, though, yoga and some work on the quilt I'm building. I want to lay the first sketch down for my next clock, too...
My weight is down a bit from April 1, and I'm working on getting back down to my maintenance range, which is the goal. At least it's going in the right direction.
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa7 -
Good morning Ladies -
Our house was in the path of totality so we took advantage of it and had some friends over for an eclipse party. We had fun. As others have noted, it was cool to watch but I don’t think I would travel for it.
Carol - so sorry for your loss. Prayers for peace for you. I lost my older brother (only sibling) in 2017. It is a very strange feeling not having that person who knew all your childhood memories be gone.
Beth - I’m sorry your Mom is declining so
rapidly.
Okie in the TX Hill Country9 -
Very high winds last night. There is a lot of heavy flooding in the local area from rivers and the very high tide. We are fine here. I'm going to leave going out until tomorrow! Damp and windy. John might pick up milk.
I've just ordered a new valance sheet for our super king bed. I like the ones that have the bottom sheet joined onto the valance. The sheet goes over the mattress. John has worn through his side! We have had it 20 years!

Lisa it is so fun when our animals try to do yoga with us! My Brownie, stretches along with me and does the downward dog and cobra stretches along side me making me laugh. I had a pet in the past that used to do the whole routine with me. Such fun!
