So... I was outside at totality, I took pictures with the selfie side of my phone, like Tina I was just trying not to look at the sun, and wanted to! Didn't work. The pics just look like the sun. The birds never stopped singing, Egg was inside getting a snack when I walked back in. I tried wearing Corey's welders helmet to look at the sun, just gave me an instant headache from the weight. 🤷🏻 I dunno.

Anyway - smelling like leather and sweat and dirt at the moment, but after two hours, I decided I like the bricks with the German schmear (thank you Barbara, I'll use that later with Corey... 😀). After I got all the mortar cleaned off around it, I was able to get all that detritus in the dumpster... then I took an hour to pull some siding off under the carport. I told Corey I would pull everything off that I could reach. Not as much as he probably thought, as I think he thinks I'm six feet tall.

I'm not. 🙃 But I might get out and do a little more once I take a break. Or maybe not.

Rebecca - You have my full sympathy. I just don't give in anymore. No matter what your sister promises, you know what she's like better than she does, and it will all happen. My answer these days is "I'm not traveling anymore," and I use the excuse of the old military life when I deign to give any excuse at all. You can use that one too, if you like. I've done that bit, I have no urge to go anywhere else. Possibly ever. I may change my mind someday, but it's not today.

Time for a snack.

I'm not traveling anymore (adding "this year"). I like it! We have traveled down to Oregon, to the airports etc a good 20 hours of traveling, and I have done my quota for awhile!🙄😁😂

I'm eating my pantry down to a couple of items. I have pasta, crackers, honey, prunes (not opened yet), olives, some packets of hollandaise sauce mix. Everything else I eat is stuff in the fridge or freezer. Have any of you noticed this transition? Less prepackaged foods and more chilled items. I just realized this when I was making up my shopping list this week. Husband has 3 times the items than I do. Lol!

I have read up until page 17, but have not made notes. I am really enjoying having my BF here, its been some late nights and early mornings, but well worth it.
Today we are going for a pedicure and to an antique store.

Sue - I am so happy to read that you are rid of her. It's such a shame she left such a mess, but at least she is gone.

Well, after almost all day on the phone, either on long hold, speaking to an idiot, and occasionally to a sensible person, I have cancelled the October cruise.
Phew!
By the last conversation with the insurance guy, I had lost the will to live. The crunch for him was he DXA scan my doctor has ordered. Apparently, that's a no.no. He offered to put me in touch with another third party company, but I had rung at least six different people and been on hold for so long for each, I just gave up. I have now cancelled the October cruise and will get my deposit back sometime.
The refund for the April cruise had to be reprocessed this morning. It hadn't gone through.

So now I'm hoping to get two cheques and two refunds into our joint account. I will believe the cheques when I see them.
Personally I am relieved. For John I feel bad, but he is being very philosophical.
I now have enough money, and enough mental space for my recovery.

I received a booklet online from my hospital about exercises etc to do before and after surgery. I'm already doing more than they ask.

Feeling quite tearful and relieved it's done. My old uni friend rang while I was in the middle of this torture, but I couldn't talk to her.

The plan for tomorrow is to do some HIIT and then take the water aerobics. Afterwards (well, actually I’ll have to leave the water aerobics early) I have a dentist appt for the routine cleaning. If they have the permanent bridge I’ll have them put it in. But honestly, I don’t think they will

Lisa – thank you for telling me about the wood plank versus vinyl plank. I would never have thought of that. How did your company yesterday like the eclipse? It wasn’t anything around here. The only issue (which isn’t a biggie at all) is that it’s somewhat awkward to bend my knee where I bruised it. Other than that, no problem at all. Thanks for asking

Started the prednisone today for the sciatica.

Heather – I, too, am very surprised how quickly you went from such a very active person to one in so much pain. It must frustrate you to no end. When Vince had his tibial plateau fracture, we had a powder room downstairs and the bedrooms and bath was upstairs. The kitchen, living room, etc. were downstairs. We made a make-shift bedroom in the family room. Put a mattress on sheets of wood. It worked. Then he had to scoot up the stairs on his backend, but in the end everything worked out. Can you do something like that?

One time the electric start on the push behind mower went. Vince kept putting off getting it fixed and putting it off. Finally, I told him that we bought that mower specifically for the electric start, and until it gets fixed, I absolutely refuse to use it. He found the part (I think it was the battery) that day!

Lanette – I’m sure the sciatica is related to the callous on the foot. With the callous, I’m (of course) walking in a way I usually don’t which probably puts more pressure on the hip. I only started the prednisone today, and it’s feeling much better. Maybe it’s because I can’t walk as much as it’s raining outside right now. Or maybe it’s psychosomatic, I don’t know

Well, the old tractor is gone. The guy just came to pick it up. Now Vince’ll order the new one.

Hi All, Hope your April is going along well.

I wasn't expecting much for the eclipse viewing because weather predictions had looked pretty bad until the day of the eclipse. We ended up with great weather. I had a pair of glasses and a neighbor and a couple friends came by over my late lunch break and we watched. Cool little bonus. Lucky stars, so to speak.

My diet and activity plans are going along. I just have to remind myself that the change is worth the effort. My clothes are pretty loose. I am cinching things for now since I have a good chunk more to finish, but it is the kind of minor annoyance that is sign of things going the right way. I still want to bail and have alcohol and a huge restaurant dinner....and pizza, but then I take a deep breath and remind myself I'm doing great. I should keep it up.

Read a great mystery by Irish author Tana French called The Hunter. I guess I just like her books. It isn't earth shattering but it didn't go exactly where I thought it would at the end. She invests her stories with what I take for a lot of locality. Maybe I was just wanting to feel nostalgic about Ireland.

Today’s gratitude: adolescent and teen years in Ukiah where I could walk to school and ride my bike anywhere all summer.
Took car in this morning to swap studded tires for standards. Instead of sitting bathed in tire scent, took walk. Soon as I got away from the highway the smells, sounds and sights really lifted my spirits. It was a good long walk up hills and through neighborhoods. Brought back memories of early morning summer bike rides to the library, early morning before it got too hot! Such a great way to start the day, I may try mixing up my morning routine a bit . . . and see if I can walk with Joe and the dogs first thing.
Rebecca it sounds like you know your eldest sister well. I wouldn’t want to welcome all that “help”ful meddling, and while I love dogs, in your position I’d have to respect my husband’s objections. If you let her know Tucker could not be in the house (for many reasons, you’re renters, your husband’s health, etc not that you have to excuse yourself) would that dissuade her? If not, then some humorous meme about how you like your yard exactly as it is and can we talk about something else? ((hugs))

Heather, like Lisa and Machka I wonder at the “no walking” instruction, but perhaps every case is different and for your individual hips walking is contraindicated?

Documented HR policies for vacation, sick and lunch times would be a good place to start… and could be adapted from templates available on the web or from your library. Getting buy-in is another thing :devil:

Michelle hope just a scratch, no bruising or swelling near your eye. When I fell and broke my glasses, an x-ray showed a tiny crack in the orbit bone around my eye. Fortunately it wasn’t displaced, no surgery needed, and healed on its own. ((hugs))

Allie - good news on the baby front. Love seeing what sMiles is up to these days. Can't believe how fast he's growing. So many nice activities at the daycare.

Rebecca - Eli is too adorable! I don't blame you for wanting to stall your sister's visit. It wasn't that long ago that you saw her, plus your house is torn up due to the leak in the kitchen.

Not good for company - or at least wouldn't be for me if I was in your shoes.

Barbara had some great tips too. You and Lee have plenty going on this summer.

Okie - you hang with a fun group, that's for sure. Glad you were able to see it! My brother in Indiana was in the path of totality and sent me a picture of his young staff standing outside the back door - it was very dark for a minute or two and they saw a couple planets. Fun to experience - I guess the next one won't come around for 20 years?

Michele - glad the prednisone seems to be helping already. Once the calluses are cleared up, hope your sciatica goes away for a long time! I noticed mine seems pretty good today - I ran around in sock feet most of yesterday, so who knows.

Heather - glad you finally got through to the insurance people - what an ordeal. I'm sure you are very anxious to have the checks in hand.

Barbara - your walk while waiting for the tire switch sounded very nice. I used to love walking through older neighborhoods too, and was just thinking about when I was in college and would bike so many places. I started out at Ball State University - there were several "Ball Brothers" mansions in Muncie Indiana, and those ritzy neighborhoods were spectacular. Yes, the canning jar people.

I'm going to sign up. There was at least one other gal in my shoes who thought she was doing all the right things - walking, strength training, some intermittent fasting and still her A1C was going up and she was surprised like I was. I could tell she was a little heavier than me and said it was probably due to snacking. Yep, I think that's what did me in too. High carb snacks.

If any of you are interested - and you don't have to be on Medicare (if you are, it's free), I think a lot of insurances cover it. Requirements include a recorded A1C of 5.7 to 6.4, BMI over 25. They are using the CDC program. More on eligibility:

The Diabetes Educator, Rachel, who hosted the meeting this morning, said participants who attend the zoom meetings regularly lose weight, and expect to lose from 5 to 7 percent of your current weight in the first 6 months. She said that's not a lot of weight like a person would lose on WW, for example, but it's enough to reverse pre-diabetes. Intriguing.

If I understood her right, the first 4 months are weekly zoom meetings, then bi-weekly meetings for the next 8 months. I didn't take good notes because my hands were full holding Rosie.

She's going send more info through MyChart including the sign-up process.

They’re having the seawall meeting for the condo at the library but we can participate by zoom. For $18,000 you can bet I’m interested.

Carol – yes, a bridge is an artificial tooth to fill in where the one was removed. I could have had an implant, but I didn’t want one. What could go wrong with this tooth did and I wasn’t about to tempt fate. Also, since I have osteoporosis, I wasn’t going to take the chance.

Jess was housesitting for Marni (her boss, the one who dumped Eva on her) and Marni has chickens so Jess brought home 2 dozen eggs. I took 1-1/2 and left 1-1/2 for her

Machka: We didn't know about vinyl planks so we got engineered hard wood flooring in 2021 so I could use the hoyer lyft without hurting my back. I like it pretty well. it seems to be holding up but I don't have animals.

Ginny: My sympathy that your DIL's aunt is passing.

Heather: I am so sorry you are in pain. I am really impressed at all the exercising and exercises that you continue to do. That is great that you can get out of a chair without using your hands. Hopefully all your exercise up until now will make the post operative period go smoothly!

Sunday I still had shortness of breath so I went and got the cat scan. It was negative. I am wondering if at the rescue where I work with the cats if I breathed in cat litter dust. I looked cat litter up and it contains silica which is very bad..toxic..for humans. From now on I am going to wear a mask when I do kitty litter! I am doing mostly better. My energy is coming back and my breathing is better. Every 4th breath I want to take a deeper breath.

I started watching Elsbeth with Carrie Preston on CBS on Thursdays at 10 pm EST. This is a relaxing show. She sort of has a Peter Faulk, Columbo type role.

I went to dentist this is first time I can remember all my gums got a clean bill of health. I think it is due to changing my diet. My sinus infection is still gone, too!

I hope to sell DH car this weekend. Most of the estate is settled now. I have had to swallow the patience bill many times over the past few months. One of the businesses is on the verge of losing me as a customer because of such poor service. Heather I understand your pain with dealing with cancelling your cruise. It should be easier and less stressful. With the business in question I have called them at least 10 times to get an account into my name. A friend said they are doing this to break me down so I will pay someone in their company a hefty fee to speed the process. It will not happen I will leave the business first!
