47 year old from Fort Wayne Indiana. Been up and down on weight for years. Well since turning 40. Can't seem to maintain. Staying consistent is hard for me. I do like to cheat when I eat and then I find myself not holding myself accountable for healthy eating once I lose the consistency.

You've hit a nail on the head: Truly committing to change is one essential step. Pretty much the only other essential one is not quitting.
If it gets difficult, don't quit.
Instead, think about how to change your plan to make it relatively easier: Food you find tasty and filling, but calorie appropriate. Look for fun ways to move more. (They don't necessarily need to be formal exercise.) Maybe more gradual loss rate. Budgeting in some manageable treats now and then. Etc.
