Please please please ?? 👩🍳
Your MIL's transfer to a new facility must give you-her-the rest of her family such comfort. Please keep on being her advocate as she navigates her new reality.
And don't forget to advocate for YOURSELF as you try to go forward on your "Less Alcohol" journey.
"No wine in the house "...Great choice. I just got a shipment today of @ 30 bottles of wine. Should carry me through til well into the next year with my current record of abstinence for long periods, then a bottle a night for a few days .
🤦 Guess which habit I should ditch ??
We are definitely more happy with MIL’s care at the new facility, and she seems less stressed. So, we’ll keep checking in daily.
30 bottles in this house probably wouldn’t last 2 months, I’m sad to say. But, that’s really good if you can make it last. I can easily go buy wine from the store 2 miles away, but I’m trying to convince myself I’m too lazy. Lol
You’re close on the recipe and those are definitely great options to add/edit if you want.
Ingredients
8 eggs
½ tsp Salt
¼ tsp pepper
12 slices bacon, fried and chopped
½ onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
4 oz baby Bella mushrooms, sliced
5 oz fresh baby spinach, rough chopped
1 roasted red pepper, chopped (I used half a jar or 1 pepper from a 12 oz jar of Mount Olive mild roasted red pepper)
8 oz crumbled feta cheese
8 Kalamata Olives, pitted and finely chopped
Directions
Fry bacon and chop (or chop then fry). Remove bacon from grease to paper towel-lined plate. (I poured out the grease from the pan, and used a tablespoon to sauté the onions and garlic and another for the mushrooms.)
Sauté onion and garlic, let cool.
Sauté mushrooms, let cool. (Sautéing separate from onions and garlic allows them to brown better.)
In large bowl; scramble eggs adding some water to make fluffy, approx ½ cup. (You can use milk or heavy cream if desired, but that adds calories.)
Mix in salt, pepper, onion, garlic, mushrooms, bacon, spinach, roasted red pepper, feta, and olives.
Pour evenly into silicone-lined (do not recommend paper liners) or use non-stick spray to grease muffin pan. Bake at 350° for 30-35 minutes.6 -
@chicbuc I can get behind your “wine” decision! Princess and you are very blessed to have each other.🥰2

I figured it is a good idea to check in every day for accountability. My check ins will be a day behind.

Kicking off summer soon and my DH and I are working hard to spruce up the backyard. We have an annual family reunion here in August. But also excited for a few fun trips with family too - have plans for May, June and July getaways. This means planning ahead and realistically for food and wine.
May goals: more AF days than last month! A minimum of 18.
Overall goals: get good sleep and make time for getting outside. Also drop the 2 lb. gain that arrived and wants to hang around lol. Will focus on good nutrition (1200-1500 calories) and then maintenance through August.

Happy May Everyone! I am going to try to post daily this month, not sure how that is going to go but we'll see. Not the greatest start to the month for me. I drank my less alcohol beer last night but had too many! Luckily, it is early in the month so plenty of time to turn things around.
It is a challenge for me to keep up with everyone's posts but I do relate to the loss of precious pets, and managing care for aging parents. Life is hard sometimes. It's great to have a welcoming place to express these feelings and get support. Kudos to all of those who are showing up for their loved ones, including the furry ones, and for themselves here.

I think someone else said they are going on a cruise this month. I will be going to Alaska at the end of the month. To make the lowest cost drink package worthwhile, I would have to drink 6-7 beers daily. I don't think I could do that even if I wanted to! So, no drink package for me. I'm glad Iooked into it before purchasing.
Thanks to @MissMay for keeping this community up and running!

Still no wine. Visited MIL and though she was just back from dialysis and tired, she looked more rested than she was the last time I saw her.4 -
Hi, MFP LA pals. You guys are so inspirational!
Thank you, @MissMay, for the May thread.
@Womona hope the interview and visit were fantastic and you have a horribly difficult decision to make between 2 great options. With your sailing, tennis and golf activities, you certainly will make new friends and have a great social circle in no time if you guys go for it!
@SunnyDays930 much lament for the pup angst. I feel you, sis. I kinda had the opposite situation where DH was mad when I came home with the dog alive because he thought it was time and the vet thought "salvage drugs" (prednisone) could buy a few more good days. It's hard and it hurts. I agree with the poster (sorry I don't remember who, but you're wise!) who said you will know when it's time. It's just a rough patch of road.
@michleib I love your garden spruce up reunion energy. What fun stuff you have planned! You go! I appreciate your thought process on balancing moderation with enjoying fine wine, so thanks for putting that out there.
@itladyee Glad seeing you and admire your 1A/week goal. Ima gonna give that a think. My weekends have not been going well, and that may be the reframe I need.
@NonnieDoiron and @forestdweller1 you guys are cracking me up with the yummy egg muffins.
I'm leaving out a bunch of you guys -- new and old. I read all your posts and appreciated them. Thank you. I'm re-swizzling where I spend energy, and candidly, I do not have it figured out. Unforeseen family events have created a lot of tumult and work short term, but they're changes I think ultimately are good. Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel on my friend's estate which has been so much more work that expected. I am so sad about it. I'm not sure whether dealing with it forces me to process all the feelings faster or if dealing with it every day is just more occasions for feeling sad. I dunno. On the one hand I need accountability as much as ever, and on the other I have less time and energy for it. Have you guys heard the expression, "I resist most that which I need most"?
Anywhoo, I just booked a beach long weekend with DD#2 and although I'm in my weight maintenance range, I will feel a little more confident in my way too small for my age swimsuits if I lose 3 lb. I need 6 weeks and I have 7 weeks.
goal:
M-Th AF
F-Su <2 ... but I may try @itladyee 's plan6 -
@ahoy_m8 I’m glad we could give you a laugh especially while your on this emotional roller coaster with your friend’s estate. As for accountability even if you can’t come here to post, at least write it down. Keep a notepad by the bed and just tally it every night as you go to bed. When you have time and energy, you can give us an update. I hope you enjoy your beach weekend!4

Happy weekend LA friends,
I am leaving for the day with DS and DIL to visit my mother who lives about 2 hrs away. It will be a long day returning this evening around 8:00 p.m. Had some wine last night and stayed within personal limits. Tonight is a planned AF evening for sure! Not sure about tomorrow if Cinco de Mayo will warrant wine or a NA Stella 0.0.
May goals: 18 AF days

@NonnieDoiron ...Thanks again for the recipie...Eldest Daughter made her annual trip to Da'Burgh from Louisiana yesterday/today.Never have I ever known someone who had such weird travel issues. Last year her flight was delayed 24 hours. This year she got to Houston mid-afternoon for a 6 pm flight. Better safe than sorry, nuh ?? Middle Daughter & SIL were pepped to greet her at 10 pm, home & snuggled in bed by 11. Weather flight delays got her on a 3 1/2 hour delay...plus an hour "taxi time " in Houston. Plus the usual "Where's my luggage ??" For another hour. I honestly couldn't have blamed her if she had just traded tickets for an available trip to Dubai or Trinidad. Short story long, I spent my wait time making your muffins, which were a great hit at 3 am for all the weary travelers and waiters. No alcohol for anyone then, or for the next month.
Her 3 rescue kittens were supposed to all be female, but a few weeks ago she found one of them behaving "inappropriately" with the two little gingers...Now there may be two litters of kitties waiting for her when she arrives home. Yeah, "trust, but verify" LOL.
Feliz Cinco De Mayo !! Celebrate with chocolate !!6 -
Good morning LA friends!!!
I know the weekend can be more difficult getting through the day/evening with LA, but I know you guys can do it.
@NonnieDoiron I love a good egg muffin or egg casserole....it's the making part that I struggle with. LOL

So I've already blown the 1 day per weekend plan this weekend. Better days ahead!5 -
@tmbg1 I hear you on the awful wake ups in the middle of the night. That was me last night plus a nasty headache. I am also motivated today to make it an AF day.
@itladyee my DH and I live in the East Bay of N. Cal area near Walnut Creek. Been here since 1992! We also have family in Lincoln and visit a few times a year.5 -
Hello!
I'm a previous daily stress drinker whose decided to cut back. Way back. Trying to go AF for the entire month of May and go from there.
So far I feel like my sleep is better and I'm on a better routine. Also not as tired during the day.12 -

Last night we did a combo celebration of May the 4th and Cinco de Mayo with my sister and her family who came in from out of state. While everyone was drinking margaritas, I sipped on whiskey. (I haven’t been able to drink tequila in years.) I didn’t get drunk, and I wasn’t really tipsy either. I slept good last night and no headache this morning.
Went to visit MIL after church this morning. She’s just not recovering well. My husband thinks she’s dying. He can be a little dramatic sometimes, but I hate to say I’m not too sure he’s wrong in this situation.🙁 The facility is doing all they can, so it’s just her.7 -

Did well yesterday. My husband decided to make more margaritas. I declined! Now, if he offered up wine, not sure I would have been so firm. #nowineinmyhouseatthemoment
@danikat15 ~ Sleep improves for sure without alcohol! I find it takes me a bit longer to fall asleep but once I do, it's a much deeper, restorative sleep. Good Luck to you.
@NonnieDoiron ~ I hope there is better news re your MIL.
@sgt1372 ~ congrats on the consecutive days AF and the weight loss~ Good Stuff!

Hello and Happy May Monday!!!
I don't see any of my posts I thought I had written since May 1st??? WTheck???
Got to catch up and see everyone jumping onboard here. BUT those mini egg muffins!!!!! I wanted to reach in and grab one. Thanks for the recipe on those.
I mastered a win during the Kentucky Derby Party - 1 mint julep, topped off to the rim with ginger ale to make it a full weaker drink.
Earlier in the week I also had a one and done drink. Feels so good to walk away after one.

A-2 days

Need to get more distance between these drink days, even if it is just one.
Our vacation is in exactly one month away. I want to hit the Island of Hawaii in great form and remember EVERY minute of it.
