    Starting Weight 228

    June Starting Weight: 149.6

Each Month I write a reflection on how the month went. Here is mine from May if you want to read. For the new people (and the not so new)- I strongly encourage you to take some before pictures. I didn't do so in the beginning and I regret it. It takes a LONG time to actually see a difference in yourself, and to be honest takes a long time for those that are around you every day to see it too. If you take some before and after pictures every month you'll notice the difference sooner, which can be quite a motivating to keep going. You will acctually see all the hard work that you are doing is paying off. And believe me it is really hard! Be proud of what you are doing - put yourself first sometimes. You are allowed to do so! You've Got This!

    May Reflection

Iโ€™ll start with the good this month. I lost weight this month! Not the four pounds I wanted to lose but a loss. Two pounds towards my goal and met my goal to get into the 140s! I am down 78.4 pounds since starting my weight loss journey.

I reached the 1,200 mile marker on my quest to walk 2,024 miles in 2024. I have logged 1,215 miles to date. My tracker remains in the purple range (that means I will make it). So far have averaged 7.99 miles per day. This tracker is all miles walked โ€“ not just intentional. I am also tracking my intentional miles, just to see how I do. To date I have tracked 917.9 intentional miles. This puts me at 45% complete (just ahead of where I should be to meet the goal).

My Biggest Loser and Hogwarts challenges both were running in May. I have wonderful teams for both challenges. Such a fantastic and inspiring group of people all helping each other meet our goals. I have said it before and I will say it again, I wouldnโ€™t be where I am without them. They keep me motivated and accountable and make this journey a fun one.

Now for the ugly - I had an injury mid-month that has been very discouraging for my goals. I hurt my knee somehow which has limited my mobility. For the past couple weeks have been limited to a few small walks, and mostly seated chair exercises. I found a couple workouts that are halfway decent, but honestly donโ€™t know how well I am actually burning calories. I had an orthopedic appointment and MRI, but am still waiting for my follow-up appointment to discuss what they found. It is scheduled for June 4th. I have been continuing the strength, cardio, and stretch exercises but my 17K a day steps didnโ€™t happen. I did not meet my 250 miles or my 150 miles of intentional walking this month.

I finished the first book of the Harry Potter series, along with my Hogwarts Challenge. I am continuing to read the third book of the Invisible Library Series โ€“ โ€œThe Burning Pageโ€, but honestly donโ€™t really enjoy it โ€“ so it has been a tough one.

I have realized that my mission to reach the ideal range by my birthday in August will be a stretch and that is disappointing. Realistically, and at the rate I have been losing lately, it will probably be October so am setting this as my new goal. After reaching, I want to lose another five pounds to keep myself under control. My goal to reach that additional five pounds is my two-year mark on this journey โ€“ January 8, 2025!

    I WILL get there.

    My June Goals:

โ€ข Lose 4 pounds (always my goal), but be happy with a 2% loss for the month
โ€ข Alternate days of Cardio and Strength Training
โ€ข Stretch 3 days per week
โ€ข Finish the Burning Page and find something fun to read

My Before and After for May:

    wl61a7zo63pa.png

June 1: 149.6 ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿซ€ ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŽฎME! Got it all done yesterday. Today will be a fun day - still hope to get it all done. My sister is having a picnic today, with the family and friends. I promise to make some good choices and will do my best to log everything. Hoping not to see the 50s tomorrow but I do expect it - and it will be temporary!

June 2: 150.2 ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ’ฆ๐ŸŽฎME! What I expected, but had a wonderful time yesterday. I logged everything (and it wasn't pretty). Back to it today!

June 3: 148 ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ‘ฃ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿซ€ ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŽฎME! I got it all done. It was the last day of the Hogwarts challenge and I had to meet my unbreakable vow. Silly me, vowed to average at least 100 minutes of intentional exercise over four weeks. I started out ok, but then my knee injury came in week three. Without my hour walk in the AM, 100 minutes is a LOT - especially in a chair. But I did it (it helped that I did a lot in the beginning of the month)! Also at the end of last month I decided to give my plateau a boost and ordered a week of Nutrisystem. It appears to be working. My body probably just needed a change in diet!

June 4: 148.2 ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿซ€ ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŽฎME! It was bingo night with Mom last night, noone won. I did have a peppermint patty - which is off my plan this week. Slightly over on the calories. Didn't make my step goal yesterday, thinking I might be a stretch, but will keep it there until I hear from the doctor today. I am a little nervous about what she will say - hoping at least they can tell me why I hurt.

June 5: 147 ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ“ ๐Ÿฅ— ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŽฎME! Complete rest day for me. First no exercise day in a LONG time. I am going to start doing this once a week. Had my follow-up appointment yesterday - torn meniscus with moderate arthritis. My doctor said that the combination of the two makes the treatment a little trickier. The meniscus tear surgery can lead to worsening the arthritis. With that in mind she suggested a cortizone shot. I went with that option, I don't feel much differnt today - but she said it might take a bit. Fingers crossed it works. I am very happy about my weight loss - looks like the Nutrisystem boost is working - probably coupled with the ibuprofen detox!

Hey all, Charlene here. I'm 58yo, 5'8", married 40 years to Allen, 6 kids, 9 grandkids, and I'm a caregiver for the elderly so they can stay in their homes.

    June goal: 180.0

    June 1: 182.1 ๐Ÿฅ›โœ๏ธ ๐Ÿ˜€
    June 2: 180.6 ๐Ÿฅ›โœ๏ธ ๐Ÿคฏ ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ
    June 3: 181.2 โœ๏ธ ๐Ÿฅ
    June 4: 183.4 ๐Ÿฅ› โœ๏ธ ๐Ÿค”
    June 5: 182.0 ๐Ÿฅ› โœ๏ธ ๐Ÿฅ ๐Ÿ˜€

Met all my goals. Disc golf in the morning. Waited over an hour for a potential buyer for Clora Mae, only to have them not show up. But we used the time to replace a rusted lock on one of the storage bays, so it wasn't a total loss.

Allen's interview last night went very well; a 4th interview and likely the last, will be in a couple weeks.

@ozdeelite I hope you feel better very soon. We're rooting for you.

@numer1ca the moving is a bit of a long story, originally we thought we were moving toward retirement and downsizing, but then this job opportunity for Allen will keep us local. The red flying saucer is one of those darling little egg cookers.

@ilive2walk aww I'm so sorry about the torn meniscus. I hope the cortisone helps; are you going to go to PT?

@cattherien Yes to PT, but first appointment isn't until next Friday. In the meantime I'm looking up some stretches on youtube.

@deepwoodslady - Iโ€™m glad you found something that worked. I swear, I can eat all day long and then feel starving at night. I usually drink a bunch of chamomile tea for bed and if I am still hungry have a fiber drink. Lord knows I need the fiber anyway.

@Numer1ca Fiber drink? Are you talking about something like Metamucil? Do share please. I definitely need more fiber but I've been afraid to try Metamucil for fear that it will cause unexpected potty problems.

This Challenge Starting Weight (from May 31st): 181.8
    Goal: 177.8 (Four lb Loss)
    Actual Ending Weight: xxxxx
    Total Lost/Gained this month: xxxxx

**********************ONE DAY, ONE STEP, ONE DECISION AT A TIME********************

Weight in blue makes me blue because itโ€™s a gain. Weight in fuchsia pink makes me feel cheery because itโ€™s a loss. Weight in black means no change.

    06/01-182.4-(Trend Weight 185.3)-

    06/02-183.4-(Trend Weight 185.2)-

    06/03-184.6-(Trend Weight 185.2)-

06/04-182.6-(Trend Weight 184.9)- A nice drop today which I am grateful for. Trying again to ward off the night time over-indulgences, I ate dinner at 9:30 pm. About 10:30 I made a protein shake after researching if it was okay to drink one at night so close to bed (bed about 1:30 am). Itโ€™s fine, and even helpful depending on what article you read I suppose. About 30 minutes after drinking it I felt suddenly very hungry. I ignored it and it did finally pass. I did not feel the need later for any other snacks so in the end I think it may have helped. My goal was to have the protein help fill me and the sweetness of it satisfy my sweet tooth. Last night it did seem to work. I did not sleep well or sleep much, but that has been going on for days. Iโ€™m really tweaking and playing around with so many aspects of health and weight loss right now. The perfect storm is out there somewhere!

06/05-181.2-(Trend Weight 184.5)- Iโ€™m starting with a bit of a drop back to 181. Last time I hit it (a few days ago) I immediately went into self-sabotage because I was so close to the coveted 170โ€™s. I wonโ€™t be doing this today but I know the battle is one day at a time. I still have not been out-of-town for my shopping as I wanted to make some progress before travel. Iโ€™ll go soon. I am experimenting with protein shakes but didnโ€™t have one yesterday because I had chicken breast for dinner. Last night went well in the snack department. I was thinking this morning about how simple it is to get through a day without the need to snack. But night time is when the monsters come out. I am realizing that its all about โ€œthe habitโ€ of the snacks. And the habit of no snacks throughout the day. Itโ€™s not that I wonโ€™t eat the donuts if someone brings them in during the day, but I just donโ€™t reach for snacks. Itโ€™s just not part of my routine. I need to really work on โ€œthe habitsโ€ of the night--Bedtime routines. I need to pay more attention to when I am actually hungry. Just reflecting here, but if this sounds familiar to you, know you are not alone. Itโ€™s a journey, yes indeed it is.

Well, Iโ€™m a little disappointed with todayโ€™s weigh in. But I weight doesnโ€™t fall off in a straight line. I am following the calorie guidelines and eating really well. So Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s fine. Plus, Iโ€™ve increased my walk by 1/2 mile, so I may be adding a little muscle. Hopefully in the next few days it bounces down.

This morning was my sonโ€™s doctor appointment. Because my dad had heart valve replacement, she wants him to have an ultrasound on his heart at childrenโ€™s hospital. However, she doesnโ€™t expect to see anything. If she is correct, then we get help with learning stress management and deal with his anxiety and potential ADHD. Stress almost killed my dad, so itโ€™s good he learns to deal with it and /or make life choices about it, now.

I work from home today. I go the peas scaffolded and watered the planters. Juncos are nesting in one planter, so I have to be careful. Neither parent was happy to see me, and they both yelled ant me. But she came back on it after I was done. I need to get the basil planted next. And set up my tomatoes correctly.

    Iโ€™m wiped, good night.

@iLive2Walk - Darlene - What does having a torn meniscus mean for you? Will you be able to get back to your walking? Do you just need to be really careful or wear a brace?

@cattherien - does the egg cooker work really well so that you can always peel your eggs? We have a really hard time with consistently being able to peel the eggs, and we have one kid who wonโ€™t eat our fancy pants chicken. So we give him eggs instead. He eats a lot!

    @deepwoodslady - Yes! Metamucil. I forgot the name. ;)

    @lislisa123 - nice recovery!

@ozdeelite - I hope you feel better soon.

    SW: 216.8 | May 214.4 |

    *** Goals***

Non-weight goals are to make my porridge every day and have standardized meals, with a different salad or soup added in.
Exercise goals are to stretch 2x a day and walk 5 days a week, minimum a mile.
    Get more sleep. :)
Weight goal - lose 4 pounds in June - so land at 210.4

05/31 - 214.2 reaching for 212.6 to start the next leg of my journey.
06/01. 212.6 ๐ŸŽ† I did it, I am starting the next leg! Whoo Hoo!
    06/02 - 212.8 the 212 stuck!
06/03 - 211.8 - It looks like a lot of weight, but I am eating around 1600 calories a day and it is a wide variety of healthy food. I think that the 214 - 212 was just clearing out the inflammation because of the extra salt and sugar. I figure itโ€™s going to slow to 1# a week now, which feels good to me.
06/04 - 212.6 - up down up down - still down though overall
06/05 - 213.0 - oops - going the wrong way! But Iโ€™ve been within my calorie goals. Maybe I need to up my water during the day.

Got a minute to read through all the posts today:

@numer1ca How did your appointment go? Hope everything is ok. And yes, eating healthy is definitely expensive. Thanks for asking about my walking. I started out pretty much where you are. I started walking a little bit more and more every day. It became my passion. I haven't been out for a walk in about two weeks, and it is killing my mood. I have been doing seated walks - but just not the same. I hope to get out tomorrow for a small one - but the long walks will have to wait for a bit. Poor Monty (my pup and walking partner) is feeling deprived. Hubby goes too - LOL, but won't go on his own.

@cattherien Fingers crossed you hubby gets the job of his dreams!

@ginnygee1 Fantastic job getting in those steps. And congrats on hitting that oveweight milestone. Such a wonderful feeling!

@ozdeelite Hope you are feeling a little better today. Thinking of you.

@lifechanges2day I hear you with the sodium - gets me too. Every time! Sometimes I think - Yeah it didn't hit me - but then the second day it's there. The good thing, is that it usually comes off pretty quick for me if I am careful the next few days.

@lislisa123 Fantastic quote - that is just what you need to do - and leave yesterday behind! Just never give up, forgive yourself for the day before and continue moving! You got this!

@deepwoodslady Reflection is a good thing! Putting it down on paper helps, at least for me.

I didn't meet my water goal yesterday, but I wasn't far off. I had stopped drinking the sun tea; even weak like I was drinking it was still too much caffeine, and my sleep was interrupted, so I added decaf tea bags to my grocery list. But at the same time I may still need to reduce the volume of tea I'm drinking because the tannins are giving me heartburn. I drink less fluids when it's plain water and I'm not fond of fruity water or lemon slices or things like that; I don't like carbonation in my drinks either. Tea was just doing it for me. So I might try the squeeze tea flavoring for water bottles, since I found one that has no caffeine, maybe it won't be heartburn inducing.

@deepwoodslady bedtime routine mindfulness sounds like a really good solution! ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž

@numerica yes, I've never before had such good success with peeling eggs, and the key is two things: one, there is a little tool to poke a hole in the fat end of each egg before cooking. The eggs are set onto a little platform, pointed end down, so that the white of the egg doesn't drool out of the hole like it would if you were boiling the eggs. Second, this cooker steams the eggs rather than boils them, resulting in a more tender/less rubbery egg. You can control how far you want your eggs cooked by how much water you put in the machine: less water, soft boiled egg; more water, hard boiled. I purchased this on Amazon for about $20 but you can also find them at big box retailers.
