@takinitalloff I was obsessed with carving soap bars as a kid 😂. That’d be perfect. Cheap materials and still useful when done.
I’m in the midst of totally useless but hand-occupying beaded table runner right now. It’s gonna take a while because it’s 🤬silky fabric which is a PiTA to bead.

Today’s NSV, another wierd one. I spend a lot of time in my head. 🤷🏻♀️
Cardio instructor had us get bands before class. One woman put hers on her head and said,” look! I can wear mine as a headband!”
I darn nearly slipped out with “I could have worn it as a tourniquet when I used to be fat”, but I bit my tongue because nobody wants to hear that.
That’s an NSV, but I think the real NSV is that so many “used to be’s” are said with regret. Mine sure isn’t!9 -

I bought a pair of shorts online from Torrid in Mt normal size (never-mind the number) but they are about 2 sizes too big. Ego boost for sure.12

I went to a line dancing class yesterday, which is an NSV in and of itself 😉 But also, someone there was passing out homemade cookies. I had one, and I throughly enjoyed it instead of just scarfing it down. Then I logged it, didn’t go over my calories for the day, and didn’t start obsessing over wanting to eat every other cookie and carb on Earth.18

I had cake for breakfast, which made me feel kinda ick, and ended up grabbing KFC for a quick salty lunch.
The NSV is that a small fries and some chicken was enough, and it’s not a spiral that’s going to ruin my weekends calories 🙂12 -
So I'm going to buy a 34 next time I'm at the store.

I'm copying a note I recently posted to the Ultimate Accountability Challenge group (UAC*), because writing this out has caused a real paradigm shift for me.I know exactly what you mean about trying to lose weight repeatedly. For me, this group has been an incredible learning opportunity and it has completely changed how I think about weight loss, as well as the next phase: weight maintenance! Which is something that I had never thought about, until [another group member] put thoughts of maintenance into my head. One thing I love about the UAC is that we have several "maintainers" so we can learn from them about how they manage to maintain their healthy weight for the long run. Because yes that is doable!
Now I understand that weight loss isn't something I check off my to-do list, and then go back to "normal." Nope! It is merely the thing that comes before the real deal, which is maintaining that happy, healthy weight for the rest of my life. And it only works if I really, truly change my lifestyle. What a change of perspective!
When I started thinking about it this way, it became obvious to me that since there is no deadline when the project is "done," there also is no way I can give up, or fail. If I simply work on my health goals each day, the weight loss (and eventually, successful weight maintenance) will follow. And even if I have an off day every now and then, that is zero reason to make things worse for myself by "giving up." So I learn from what went wrong, and keep going. It has been liberating for me to see things from this new angle.13 -
I am currently wearing a pair of jeans that I had bought during my last weight loss. I noticed my body shape is changing, usually it takes a while to see any type of change myself no matter what others say.
And it feels great to see that positive change.
As far as the scale though I was really worried about having gained a few pounds when I weighed in. But I didn't panic like I used to. I just stepped up, and to my surprise, I was down 2 pounds. The NSV in this is that my mind set has changed to the number on the scale. While yes weight loss is crucial for me right now, how my body feels is WAY more important. And just that change alone is amazing for me.11 -
When I was on my raft trip last week, some of the other folks were describing people they knew. In talking about one person, a friend looked at me and said, "He's built lean, like you."
I still don't think of myself as lean. I'm at a healthy weight; I know that with my brain even if I don't always accept it fully. But lean? Maybe I am and just need to allow myself to fully believe.
A week after I posted this, I need to post a follow-up. It's part two of this NSV. It also happened on a river - sort of.
A friend and I did a two-day canoe/kayak trip and camped overnight along the way. It was a really nice trip, and we ate well. My friend took a picture while I was getting dinner ready. She sent me a copy when I got home. Two of them actually. When I looked at them, I saw a lean person. Oh my! To be sure, the shirt I was wearing is baggy and a size too big, but I actually looked like a lean person in my own brain.
My weight is actually still above my "ideal" maintenance weight range but about in the middle of my "absolute" maintenance range. I might revise my goals again if I can see myself as healthy at my current weight. The struggle with those last five pounds is ongoing. I wonder, though, if I revise my goal up to my current weight, will I just gain a little more? Maybe I'll just keep the old goal and not pay TOO much attention to it. That sounds like a pretty healthy attitude.

I've recently had a similar experience to @mtaratoot's above.
My rowing club had a "Taste of Rowing" event for National Learn to Row Day this past Saturday. It was free to participants. We gave them some basic instruction on land (rowing machines), then put them in the rowing barge (like rowing your living room, safe and secure). After that, we let each one sit in a recreational rowing single and work with the oars while a club member held the boat at the dock so they weren't on their own on open water (not ready! ). They seemed to have fun.
The NSV: There was lots of friendly chatting between us volunteers and the participants. One woman asked about my rowing history. I said I hadn't done anything routinely athletic before I started rowing in my late 40s, and that I was obese at the time.
She said "I don't believe that. You're tiny!"
Um, who, me?!?14 -
We live in a (wonderful) old house, and the floorboards creak on the stairs, landing and in the bedrooms. After 8 years here, the creaking is like a musical accompaniment to your movement around the house, if you know what I mean?
I noticed recently that a particularly noisy board no longer creaks as I go into the bedroom (it still does when hubby walks over it). Hubby says he no longer knows if it’s me or the cat that’s walking around upstairs!10 -
Old Me would never have done this.21 -
My daughter and I are going to Vegas this weekend & I thought I had my outfits planned (I wanted something loose and comfortable as it will be hot) so I asked my daughter her opinion. She suggested I try it on so she could get a visual. To my surprise my loose comfortable shirt was way too loose (NSV) and looked awful ( I really like the shirt). Good thing she suggested I try it on (hadn't worn since last summer).11

I'm noticing that my walks are getting a little "easier", in that I can walk a little faster, and though tired, I'm not completely struggling for the rest of the day. I also feel my stamina is increasing some. I'm probably the only one who notices, but it makes me feel not so hopeless as starting out I just felt like everything was so difficult. It IS difficult, but seeing even the slightest improvement is hope.17

I promise you, it gets better. In a couple months you’ll be doing two or three times the distance, and in a year or less you’ll be marvelling that it ever even felt difficult.

I went for a jog on Thursday. I had no pressing places to be so it was meant to be a nice slow run.
It felt so easy, and nice, and I did it with great pace (for me!)11 -
I just came back from my daily jog (I didn’t want to go!) My usual itinerary is along a river to a certain bridge, cross it and come back the other side. About 3,3 km that I do jogging and walking. Some days are better than others, but I try to go everyday even if I end up walking a lot…
But today was a great day: I could jog all the way to the bridge without stopping or walking ! First time since I’ve started to jog again a few weeks back !
Pretty proud of myself for this NSV !18 -
I bought a 20 lb rucking vest last week. I decided to wear it to work today. Between work and my after work walk I wore it for 11.5 hours. I felt like i was going to die for the last half hour of my walk. But I felt so good after I took it off. I went and walked another 45 minutes. While I was waiting for my cars oil to be changed.9

NSV - I have not had alcohol in three weeks. I can fit into my favorite summer clothes and bathing suits. After 43 lbs lost, I packed up the 2x clothing and ready to take to good will. I can walk and move easier now. I even look a bit yonger..19

Moving down to a size 38. I was 44 in December so it was a nice surprise to get into pre covid pants.20

I just joined today,,,, that is a victory for me. I'm taking responsibility for myself and enuf is enuf. I've been out of control toooo long.25

This morning I put on a dress that has been bursting at the buttons tight on me and today, when I tried it on, it was loose.20
