What's Your Most Recent NSV

I had a thorough medical check-up.

• A1C & glucose normal
• TSH & T4 normal
• all liver & kidney tests gloriously normal
• blood lipids improved (triglycerides & HDL normal... total cholesterol & LDL still a work in progress, but I'm not worried.)
• heart checks out fine
• iron levels normal (I took a delicious low-dose supplement for about 4 months )
• Complete Blood Count & White Blood Cell Differential normal (or in a few cases, close to normal)
• blood pressure readings typically normal these days

I feel like I aced my exams I love knowing that I won't get a stern talking-to next time I see a doctor. ... Well, actually, some of them still assume I must be in bad shape and in need of a lecture, because I'm still obese and some people can't look beyond that. But now I can point at the numbers and say, hey, lay off me... I'm well on my way to perfect health

I normally sleep on a king size mattress. I went camping and slept in a sleeping bag on a queen sized inflatable mattress. Before my weight loss that size mattress would bind me up and make it hard to sleep. Now there’s plenty of room.

Another result from my medical check-up: I scored above average on my cardiac stress test. And my score is closer to the good range (above me) than it is to the average range (below me). As a formerly 100% sedentary person with chronic pain and anxiety, that feels awesome.

@AnnPT77 Thank you! I agree that these are the finest NSVs of all... clothes fitting better and all that jazz is nice, but actually feeling well, and being able to do stuff? Priceless.

I went to the pool yesterday. I haven't been in water in more than 20 years. Haven't even wore a bathing suit for as long. It wasn't always about my weight (I've been about 80kg in my heaviest to 58kg at my lowest, now at 68kg) but I just felt bad about my body in general and felt so awkward and shy.
But I didn't feel as exposed as I thought I would be and I actually enjoyed myself !
I can't swim but I tried to move as much as possible to get some exercise out of it
I'll try and go a few times a week this summer ^_^

@Traquette Your comment makes me so happy! I was in your shoes (or flip-flops 🩴) last summer and I know exactly what you mean! Felt weird to get started, but I decided that everyone else is probably way too worried about themselves to really care what I look like Plus, let's be honest, it's not like people can't see what we look like just because we wear street clothes

I'm at the pool all the time now, and I love every minute of it. I even took some swim lessons! Being in the water feels so good, and pretty much everyone I have met has been positive and fun to be around. I hope you continue enjoying your pool time 🏊💦🤽🏾💦⛱️

I need to learn how to not hurt my feet on the pool floor (I keep scraping my toes on the bottom ouch) and then I'll be really enjoying myself hahaha Also, get rid of those annoying foot cramps :n

Being able to get back on track after a holiday.. 👍
We ate mostly healthy yesterday minus the donuts and I definitely got my steps in with all the prep work and cooking and swam swam swam.. good times but I’m back to gluten free dairy free eating now. I honestly shouldn’t have ate the donuts at all but being able to bounce back after whatever that was I chose to do to myself is key in the long term of this journey.. I have to be committed and consistent but there is a Balance to everything. Where’s the balance in eating stuff you’re allergic to?? 🥴🤦‍♀️
There’s so much more happening here than just creating new routines or adding things into my lifestyle. There is internal stuff happening!. Psychologically speaking, a shift happens, it could take me years to unravel my crap and process that which causes self sabotage but it’s happening 👏the years will go by anyway, might as well strive for greatness.! Good health and strength and balance!!

As @Corina1143 said: water shoes 😁 There are various types of water/pool shoes/socks available to protect your feet. Not sure you can actually learn not to scrape them, I certainly never managed!

Also, I had calf cramps instead of foot cramps, mine finally resolved when I learned to flex my toes, and stretch my calves, daily. Turns out I was doing so much toe-pointing in the pool that those muscles couldn’t keep up. There’s probably some repetitive movement you do that sets off your cramps. Look for other fitness activities that use very different movements, to help balance things 😊 And be sure to give yourself time you rest & recover.

Look into magnesium & potassium supplements as well, but always check with your doctor before taking any supplements.

NSV here, I was able to touch my toes while stretching. It was just the right side, but I haven't been able to do that since 2002 or so. Pretty big deal for me. Now I just need to work on the left side.

I’ve been consistent with exercise…🙌 Apple Fitness+ says I’ve done at least 1 workout a week for 12 weeks.. woohoo!

I’ve only been at this since the beginning of June but my resting heart rate is down from 82 bpm in May to 69 bpm consistently over the last two weeks

Had my annual physical this week. I've dropped my overall cholesterol by 20 points and my LDL (bad) cholesterol by 70 points.

Last year I was just over the metrics for high cholesterol. I asked my doctor to give me a year before we tried meds. I crushed my goal.

latest NSV: was able to fit into the same climbing harnesses as my 9-year-old campers today at the ropes course!

(i am 4'11 and really should be camper-sized, dont worry lol)

So I have this nice leather jacket (needs a small repair) that I haven't been able to wear in about 25 years. My daughter wore it for a while but hasn't been able to fit in it for at least 10 years. I hated to part with it as it is a quality jacket that was passed down to me by a family member but I really didn't think I'd ever be able to wear it again. I tried it on for fun yesterday just to see if I could even get it on. Not only was I able to put it on but I was able to zip it up too!!! Now if I could just button up my size 6 dress pants, I can zip them up but can't button them, lol.

@herblovinmom check out non-chain bakeries and doughnut shops. We’ve got four within a few blocks of me that all have gluten-free doughnuts and pastries.

My first NSV is I finally wore that crop top into the weight room. Now there are three other older women wearing crops. I feel like I started something! 😇

It’s lovely to have likeminded older women surrounding me. It’s such a unique gym (our average age is prob late 50’s and we’ve got lots of cardiac and other rehab patients along with “regular” gym users). I’ve heard over and over “like a family” from both members and staff. I feel very fortunate to have this place practically on my door step.

My second NSV is finally hitting pre-travel and pre-bike wreck weight. It took four months of patience to heal and get it off.

my husband and I have both (re) committed to losing weight by March for 20th anniversary trip. It is so much easier to stay on track when we are both actively working towards it

I have committed to running (more likely walking) a 5k in September that I have started training for. I had my 3rd training session yesterday and it is going a little better each time. I am still walking 90%, but when I do run, it feels slightly more graceful.

Technically this is a scale victory, but I'm calling it an NSV. I went on a week long road trip, ate my way through NYC, lots of fast food. But I managed to LOSE 1.5 pounds on vacation!

Also while on vacation, I fit into a pair of shorts that wouldn't button last summer!

I'm calling this a NSV: yesterday there was a small going-away party at work for a co-worker that is leaving that included 5 boxes of pastries and I didn't have one, not even a bite!
