So lately I been finishing my day with a lot of calories left over. When I come back from the boxing gym I add my calories I did and sum up to many calories. I don't know if that is bad but I do eat and eat good, following almost to the T what my trainer said. Is that bad? I lost 4 lbs in this half of week and I put it on my ticker but it only says I lost 2 lbs? Any help should I be eating more?

Oh yeah I just stared MFP on Sat or Sun so far so good.

If you are logging everything you eat then OMG, YES!!! Your log says you are under 1000 calories. That is too low for a woman and just crazy for a man. If your trainer told you eat that you should stop taking eating advice from him/her.
  • I lost 2lbs and and when i wrote it on here, the ticker say 1lb :ohwell: least i know its not just me

As a man your minimum net goal should be 1500 calories. If mfp has you below that, your weekly weight loss goal is too aggressive giving your stats.

Since you only have 25ish lbs to lose your weekly goal loss should be set at 1 lb/week, and you should be eating back the calories you burn from exercise.

If you know you are going to exercise you can estimate your burn and eat those calories throughout the day, you don't have to wait until you completed your workout.
  • Thanks guys but here's the funny thing. I don't know if I should be starving but I'm not. I even cut off the Whey Protein off my nutrition because I couldn't loose not even a pound, so I told my coach that and he said I will not loose any weight on Whey Protein, ever since I stop taking it I lost 4 lbs.

@emmalouise21 I know that's why I don't even want to mess with the ticker I don't want to have to delete account and start over again :(

@erickirb only have 25sih..that's a lot..lol..I would try to reset it but it seems that I tried and it won't let me. At the end of the day after I workout I'm not hungry. Only force eat egg whites and stuff like that

yeah but he makes boxers turn pros so he must do something right! I'll ask him if its too much for me but like I said I don't really feel weak, hungry or grouchy. Thanks for the advice

I know its crazy, when I look at the ticker it makes me feel good but it would make me feel better if it could tell the right amount

you're eating like a little girl, which is great if that's what you want to look like after your cut is over. if not i suggest upping cals and getting in an adequate amount of protein while incorporating heavy resistance training

What he meant by that comment eating too little and not enough protein and not doing heavy weights will cause you to lose a large % of lean muscle. Do you want to lose fat or muscle, that is the question. If it is fat, set your goal to 1 lb/week at the most and eat 30-40% of your calories from protein.

And you have to keep in mind hunger is not the best indication of your body's nutritional requirements. If you are not hungry eating as little as you are now, your body is most like in the stages of starvation mode, which part of is that your hunger receptors get out of whack.

Why are you getting defensive at the advice people are giving you? Plan and simple, YOU NEED TO EAT MORE. Your body will not sustain itself for long on that few calories. As a "boxer" you need a lot of energy which means YOU NEED A LOT OF FOOD.

And as far as protein goes, your body needs that. Whey protein isn't as ideal of an option as animal protein, but it's still protein and therefore will assist in muscle repair and growth. Your trainer sounds rather dense.

He was not implying that you are a girl or that you suck at fighting, he was saying that you aren't eating enough.....like girls that are trying to stay skinny. That is all.

Try eating some peanut butter or nuts. You don't have to eat much to get your calories up.

Your boxing coach may get people to turn pro, but he doesn't know ish about nutrition. Whey protein doesn't make you fat. I know this because body builders, fitness buffs and athletes use it. I have lost 20+ lbs and 8% body fat on whey. You have lost 4 lbs lately due to the lack of calories. More than likely, you are cutting muscle and not fat.

your body has nutritional requirements and caloric requirements. I am an athlete and eat 2800 calories (and that is light sometimes). i can tell you professional athletes (MMA, boxers, etc) eat 5000+ calories. So if you want to start gaining muscle and eliinate fat, then you should get your diet.

I believe that he meant this quite literally and was trying to be helpful. There is strong science correlating food and exercise and muscle development. I'm a 5'4" female who is building some muscle and eating 2000 calories today (because I'm burning 600 or so), so averaging 800 calories per day would work for a woman much smaller than me. Exercising at a deficit will not build muscle and can really deplete it. You really need to slow your roll. I can see this type of defecit as an unhealthy short term solution to trying to make weight class, but not for sustainable living.

After a few workouts (are you using a HRM?) You will get an avg. burn. Try to use that to estimate your calories and PLAN your day out. Eat your calories BEFORE if you aren't hungry after. Of course TRY to eat SOMETHING after. A protein shake, an egg, some almonds.. something. Your body needs that protein. I have to agree that your trainer doesn't seem to know much about nutrition. Nothing against him, but I would seek the advice regarding nutrition of someone who has a degree in nutrition.

So your boxing coach is a nutritionist now? Seriously? The amount of fat one can metabolize into energy is directly related to the amount of fat that is stored on the body. If you create a deficit higher than the ability of your body to metabolize fat, guess what? Your body has to get that needed energy from somewhere... More than likely your muscle tissue.

Keep doing what you are doing and enjoy meeting your skinny fat goals for 2012.

See that's an answer I can relate to, I will double check my nutrition part and thanks for the info I will look at it really close

He is completely correct. If you continue to eat so low you will lose major muscle mass. And whey protein doesnt make you fat lol what a bunch of bullsh!t. Your boxing coach doesnt know a DAMN thing about nutrition. He knows how to box and thats great.

I have a few years of boxing and rugby here, keep eating like that and I will step into the ring.

OP- No offense but if you are seriously considering Boxing like I'm pretty sure you are. (atleast I think)

Then, you should probably invest in an actual nutritional coach. Boxing coaches don't always know what would be good for you in a diet and nutritional sense. Thats why they are boxing coaches and not nutrition coaches.

    You need to eat...seriously.

I just thought that I would throw this out there. The last time I wanted to lose weight I used whey protien and I lost 17 or the 21 lbs I was trying to lose. I gained because I quit working out and started eating crappy...My point is that now that I'm back on track...I use whey protien....and I'm a girl lol.

    "THAT" just happened.

Relax buddy...people are trying to give you different approaches, views and such....just because someone is a "coach" doesn't mean their ways of thinking fits everyone perfectly.

My kids are in boxing, I hang out with boxers, I talk to them about nutrition and all that good stuff. Seriously, the majority of them don't know what they're talking about and spew random crap from their butts. I mean mouths.
If you're going to be "fighting", yes you need to stay within a certain weight window. However, it's it's d@mn near impossible for you to stay in that bracket, BUMP YOURSELF UP A WEIGHT CLASS and train harder. But whatever you do, EAT YOUR D@MN EXERCISE CALORIES.

by the way, boxing coaches will have you on laxatives and enemas, and water pills before a match so iyou can fit in the top of a smaller weight range....they will also suggest to you that you dont' eat for about 12 hours , and nothing to drink either....so yes, they know how to get results, are they the best results? Not all the time
