I was just waiting for either death or diabetes to come get me.
After seeing 2 coworkers pass away back to back I got scared and decided only I could change me.
Started at 250 and started with 20 pound weights , I was intimidated at the gym.
Currently at 210 but it’s a lot of new muscle.
I’m trying to drop another 20 pounds , but have somewhat plateaued. It won’t stop me.
Please be kind , I’m extremely self conscious…. and please excuse my face in the new pictures, I had just abused myself and was beat!!!
I promise I’m a pushover and truly love life.

I really inspires me.
It shows what a person can do when they truly put their heart into changing.
You don’t get where you are without sweating and being sore.
But is a great price to be to look as great as you do.

@michdblanchard, so you look a little fierce in a couple of your current photos: So what? You also look amazingly much healthier, and really strong (plus one of those photos makes you look like friendly gym guy, besides - which I'd bet is your real personality).

It’s funny you say that. People at the gym call me the Mayor.
I always tell people how hard they are working.
I truly want people to be there. I hate gym intimidation, so I try to be as friendly as possible. I welcome new members.
Ask people if they want a spotter so they can push themselves.
I spoke with a lady and told her that her weight loss was incredible.
She almost cried and said that no one at work or her family said a word about her losing 90 pounds.
It broke my heart , she has made incredible strides and inspired me every time I saw her.

@michdblanchard, it makes me so happy to hear about that. Gyms need more of that (though I think they're often friendlier and more supportive places on average than some newer exercisers here on MFP fear).
I try to be that woman at my rowing club: "Come row in a boat with us", "Everyone was new once, we remember and we want you to love this" . . . stuff like that. I love working with our beginners, most of whom are 30+ (some +++ ).
There are only a couple of down-sides to losing weight, for me. One is that - because I had already been an addicted rower while still class 1 obese - I feel like I have observably less cred now in helping unconfident people believe in themselves.
I help out routinely with our learn-to-row classes, have for quite a few years. I won't belabor details, but I used to feel quite viscerally that when I told less athletic/less confident people they could do certain things, some thought "if that grey-headed fat lady can do it, I'll bet I can, too". The first season I was slim (and some long-existing muscles showed), I was stunned and saddened when I got more of a "yeah, sure, YOU can do it" visible reaction.
That made me sad, but I'm not going back.

Started april 8th. So in two months I’ve gone from 121 to 106 kg.
Target is 85kg (182cm, 45yo)

Ive lost 45lbs so far.
13lb last year half heartedly.
32lb this year.
Another 60lb remaining to my target.
Third of the way through approx.
Age 64, height 5ft.4.
Was 231lb,
Now 186lb,
Target 126lb.
Total loss to target overall 105lbs.
I can't see a difference when I look in the mirror but I feel better mentally and physically which is such a nice feeling.
Eta lost another 4lb since pink photo taken

Refusing to let 50 take me down! Fighting for the summer shreds and in better shape than when I was in my 20s. Calorie deficit + consistent 1/2 hr workouts Mon, Weds, Fri. Still drinking cocktails, eating cinnamon rolls,
and eating out... all in moderation!21 -

12 week progress from April 16th to July 7th 2024 Fat loss - 36.5 lbs. SW - 223 CW - 186.5. I am 163cm. 37 years old.
In 12 weeks I am around half way to my fat loss goal and I am so happy! Most of my current success is because I stopped drinking (problematic). And increased my activity from barely doing 5k steps a day to averaging 15k and weight training x3 p/w (this also helped busy my mind and body so I didn't think about drinking so much). I averaged around 1500 calories a day, sometimes less if I couldn't be active that day, sometimes more if I was hungry. Most of my calories were coming from alcohol so fortunately I didn't have to hit the diet too hard, I just made healthier choices and aimed for higher protein, higher fibre and lower but not low carb.
I know the second half will be slower, but it doesn't feel like this huge mountain anymore and my entire mindset has changed in the past 12 weeks. Am I close to my goal? No. Will I reach it? Yes. And I will now enjoy it!61 -

I lost 135 lbs and have kept it off for 12 yrs. Going up and down a bit, but always get back ontrack. Still using MFP to track calories, protein and still working out, though I have switched up my routine several times through the yrs. Recently concentrating on lifting weights and getting my steps in……

Started this journey in April, and this picture was taken last month. Since then I have lost another 7 pounds.
It’s very difficult for someone with chronic pain to try to exercise, but changing eating habits and taking a 30 minute walk every day even if it’s a slow walk has made the world of difference…. I have now lost 42 pounds since April!!
WOW! That is impressive! Been busting my butt since April also but no where near 14 pounds a month loss! Good job!17 -
