I took a break from the Passage when my library loan of Table for Two by Amor Towles came in. Its a short story collection but the second half are short stories all relating to one of his earlier novels, Rules of Civility.0

I finished Take your breath away (very good overall) and I needed a new audiobook asap for my next run alone yesterday so I chose another Linwood Barclay: No time for goodbye
So far so good !
No time for goodbye is done, it was quite good !
Out of laziness, I downloaded another Barclay: Never look away
I feel like it's a "valeur sûre" for me right now. But I should find something a little different next time !

I'm starting the autobiography by Diane Keaton. "Then Again"
Still working through all the books I've had on my shelves for years and never read at all or never finished. I'm going to try to get them all read by 2025!0 -
"Even Mom once said, 'Don't grow old, Diane.' I didn't like those words then, and I don't like them now.The exhausting effort to control time by altering the effects of age doesn't bring happiness. There's a word for you: happiness. Why is happiness something I thought I was entitled to? What is happiness anyway? Insensitivity. That's what Tennessee Williams said. "0

So I’ve been enjoying Jennifer Armentrout’s books lately - eyeball deep in book 3 of her Blood and Ash series. Sort of akin to Sarah J Maas’ style, but not quite as good. Plus I love all the fae characters & culture SJM uses 🧚🏼
As a pallet cleanser I like to throw in a Louise Penny murder mystery, and have many different tomes by various authors & genres in my TBR stack 🤓
Also recently read an interesting quick trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer: The Southern Reach Trilogy0 -

I've been reading a mix of what is probably self-help (work related recommendations) and my normal random (okay, heavy Illona Andrews isn't random, that standard fare) selections.
Self help adjacent:
The Depression Cure by Stephen Ilardi...thoughtful, interesting. I didn't like the reader (audio book)
Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Glover Tawwab* this one is really good
The Dance of Anger by Hartiet Lerner*
Come as You Are by Emily Nagoski. Sex ed for women...pretty interesting.
Random selections:
Winter Lost Patricia Briggs #reallygood read!
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers I read this because the book club I keep intending to go to was reading it. I missed the book club but enjoyed the book so much I bought a copy.
When the Angels Left the Old Country by Sacha Lamb Also a book club selection*, interesting so far.
Magic Claims by Illona Andrews fun read.
The Wings Upon Her Back by Samantha Mills This on surprised me by how much I appreciated it. I may buy it.
We Could Be Villians by Megan Mccullough Better than I expected but really have to suspend disbelief.
Sanctuary by Illona Andrews Excellent read. Really made me laugh.
The Butcher of Anderson Station by James S A Corey About what I expected, short story about Fred from the Expanse
* had to return before complete as I got them as audio or ebooks with my Libby app...waiting to finish
Getting ready to read Harbinger by Wen Spencer and trying to decide if I am in the mood for another full Expanse novel ...Persepolis Rising...or not.1 -
I am working on this mystery with a stack of many more waiting !!!0 -

Is anyone else having trouble seeing posts here?
Or, alternatively, seeing more pages than posts actually exist on? My feed says 89 pages but when I go back to page 86, I find where this posted. And the last post I've seen, which was from Sept 23.0 -
It’s dark because you are trying too hard.
Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly.
Yes, feel lightly even though you’re feeling deeply.
Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them.
I was so preposterously serious in those days, such a humorless little prig.
Lightly, lightly – it’s the best advice ever given me.
......
So throw away your baggage and go forward.
There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet,
trying to suck you down into fear and self-pity and despair.
That’s why you must walk so lightly.
Lightly my darling,
on tiptoes and no luggage,
not even a sponge bag,
completely unencumbered.

The Boy Genius and the Mogul. It's about the developement of commercially viable television, which is ironic because I rarely watch any.1

Just read The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen. Pretty good read. Sort of a romance but there's a lot more to it.0

I am reading Outlive by Peter Attila1
-
Listening to Red Rising by Pierce Brown.
Can't say I like it. Dystopian is usually a sure bet for me but this is too whiny, heavy handed and painfully melodramatic. Maybe I would like the book but it's tainted by the reader?0 -

I'm reading books by this guy.
Trying to ramp up disease prevention as I an living in one of the worst states for health insurance in the U.S. So sad, the priorities in the south!0 -
Just finished reading Gods of Jade & Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. I really enjoyed it. It's based on Mayan mythology/religion and takes place during the 1920s jazz age. It starts off with the main character living a Cinderella-esque live and evolves into her becoming a companion & knight-like figure who ends up fighting for the firstborn Mayan god of death who was betrayed by his twin brother (the 2nd born Mayan god of death).
