I have not been underrating at all. In fact there were many days I was supposedly only in a 500 calorie deficit from maintenance. My guess is I also lost some water weight/random fluctuation. Next week I’ll have more info with the next weigh in but either way I’ll take it3 -
[quote="LowTechForever;c-48308657"
I’ll go by the 10-day average since daily weigh-ins have fluctuated widely. Maybe I need a new set of scales or at least to change the battery?[/quote]
Using some kind of rolling average is a GREAT idea. If you think the scale is suspect, try this:- Weigh yourself.
- Pick up something that weighs five or ten pounds.
- Weigh yourself again.
- Put that thing down and weigh yourself again.
- The third reading should match the first.
If it's not consistent, check the feet to make sure there's not pet hair or lint or something on them. Then change the battery if that doesn't fix it. If it still gives wild readings, maybe it's the scale. The reason for the second step is that some scales allegedly have a memory and won't show a different number if the change is small.
It's also likely just daily fluctuations. I've finally started losing again somewhat consistently the last week. Two days ago, I "gained" a pound in one day. Uh... no I didn't, but that's what the scale said. It wasn't fat. It was other "stuff." Today I "lost" 2.4 pounds. Uh... no I didn't. My rolling average says I lost less than a half pound in two days. That number is larger than it would be if I was maintaining, but I've lost 1.8 pounds since the beginning of the month according to the rolling average, not the 3.2 pounds that the scale suggests.

Hi! I am a 56 yo mom of 6, grandma of 6, wife, and for work I'm a dog trainer! I was last at my goal weight of 135lbs 7 years ago! I probably held it for a year, but that's the last time I remember feeling really good about myself. Slowly it crept back up And now I am 178 😳🙄! I've had some foot issues that have contributed to the weight gain
I've always been an active person and I love walking, hiking and biking. This excess weight needs to go! I have used mfp for All of the last 7 years but off and on. It's the only thing that's really worked for me. I used to have support through another app called calorie count And many of those people migrated here when that website shut down. Since the social aspect of this website change drastically a few months back, they all migrated to another app. I don't like it. Hopefully this will be the added inspiration and motivation I need! Hoping to cheer some of you on too!

I'm Chris - 74 year old female...5'5" ...I used to be 5'7" but arthritis hit and I lost two inches, so now that two inches is squished around my waist like the billows of a big accordion...
...Oh, well. I'll just keep working on it.
My husband and I are retired.
I see my trainer for 60 mins three days a week and try to walk the other four days. The walking doesn't always work out.

Looking at my scales, I had a wee bit of a gain last week while I was away, I was up to 162. However, cannot say I didn't have a good time XD
Back to work though and managed to shift it. Guessing that weight gain was down largely to water retention after eating a lot of salty foods.
Amazing to see everyone's progress.

Total loss for October: I am finally seeing some success! I am down 3.3 pounds for the month. Holy cats; that's less than two weeks. Wow.
Stick to it!3 -
My name is Donna. I am 64 years old and I live in the Midwest of the US. I am 5’ 5” tall. My highest weight was 253 in 2016. My MFP start weight was 235 in 2018.
Ultimate Goal Weight: 145-155 (I’ll know it when I get there!)

Weight in blue makes me blue because it’s a gain. Weight in fuchsia pink makes me feel cheery because it’s a loss. Weight in black means no change.
10/01-193.6-(Trend Weight: 193.8)-
10/06-193.8-(Trend Weight: 193.8)- I really expected the weight to have shown more than a 0.2 increase after yesterday’s food and snack filled outing. I can only attribute it to the fact that I was up all night shedding water for no apparent reason. It was totally inconvenient considering our power was out from about 11:30 pm until 4:00 am during which time I couldn’t sleep due to not having my C-pap machine on or my fan. Tired today since the cat had NO PROBLEM sleeping during the outage and woke me up earlier than I would have liked for her morning treat. Since the contractor wakes me up early everyday Mon-Fri, I will look forward to sleep next Friday night and Sat morn IF my DGS lets me. He did NOT this week! Ugh. Isn’t sleep supposed to be good for weight loss? UGH…I feel like I’m fighting a losing battle. I’ll just have to focus on the fact that I deserved more weight gain and caught a rare break on that front.
10/13-192.2-(Trend Weight: 193.2)-I am up almost a full pound overnight for no apparent reason except stress. I’ve had a very difficult weekend with my daughter who stays with me 4 days per week for work reasons. Perhaps a hormonal change within me due to the STRESS has caused the scale to tip? Eating-wise, it was an excellent on-plan day. I am happy that I am down from last week however. Progress is being made. I just need to stick to plan, drink more water and definitely MOVE MORE. I’ve gotten a bit slack with exercise. I am Definitely encouraged and inspired by all the great progress you all have made this week! Congratulations!

If you know that you're "up" overnight, that suggests you weigh daily. I sure do. Have you considered instead of just looking at the number on the scale that you run an average? It takes some of the stress out!
I'd give you a better example, but I'm actually losing rather quickly right now, so my average loss rate is starting to keep up with my average loss rate. Still, the few times it bumps up keep it a little more realistic. My scale says I lost two pounds over two days. My average says I've lost 0.8 pounds over two days. I trust the average more. Looking even over a longer period, since I'm consistently on a down trend, the scale suggests I've lost 5.2 pounds so far this month. The average says it's 3.7 pounds. The averaging smooths out the up and down spikes and helps my brain. The only time it is a challenge is when you start a downward trend but the average says you're still gaining. You can use logic and know it's wrong. I really find it helps. Give it a try if you don't already.
