Non gym workouts

Hello! This app does not seem to have the ability to add exercise that is not gym related. When I work outside, raking or snowblowing or other similar calorie burning work, there is no way to account for it in the app. The Weight Watchers app that I used to use had the ability to add all of these, which to me makes a lot of sense. Because you’re not necessarily in a gym exercising does not mean you are not working out and burning, a lot of extra calories. Would love to see that added to the app.

My Garmin fitness tracker is connected to MFP and will add the calories buried as measured by my device for any general activity that’s on the device which includes pretty general stuff. It’s also connected to. My WW app (lifetime member)

Go to Exercise, Cardiovascular, and enter "Gardening, General." Then in the pop up box enter your time and it will calculate using your current stats. You can also edit the number of calories in the little box if you think it's too high or low.
You can use something that is close such as that or you can add your own personal new exercise into the database for future easy reference/use.
How to add your own custom exercise if you can't find something you can use by searching:
Go to "Help" from any page for info about the site. https://support.myfitnesspal.com/hc/en-us
Here, from "Using the App" on the Help page:
    https://support.myfitnesspal.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032625831-Can-I-add-a-new-exercise-to-the-database

There's a way to do almost anything. "Help" is actually helpful, and someone here in the forums will usually have an answer for you. :flowerforyou:

Also, snow shoveling is there as an explicit option:

I feel like the calorie level assumes a pretty vigorous, continuous version of snow shoveling, though.

I also circled the "Add your own" option. That screen grab is from web browser MFP, but the same options are available in the phone/tablet app.

METS are what the MFP database is based on . . . and METS have their own issues. I'd use them myself for some activities, when absent a more suitable alternative.

Reasonable estimates are achievable, but METS isn't perfect for everything.
