Hi everyone!
Yesterday’s run was cold and foggy. I had about an hour to run- then I had to change and get to a workshop at the uni. To my horror, of all things to forget, I forgot to bring pants (the American kind), and I wasn’t about to go to the workout wearing spandex, so I had to go home and was then late to the workshop. I definitely double checked my bag this morning! I ran 9.3km.
Today, I dragged myself out of the car (still struggling a bit with motivation and getting back into the routine) and completed 10.3km. I didn’t push the pace until the last km in the hopes that making things easier might make it easier for me to get started. I think it’s just a bit hard getting adjusted to the darkness and cold, damp fall temperatures. Inside it’s so much more cozy . I did enjoy the run and I will be back at it tomorrow!
35/200km for November

Morning all.
Got in 5.6M at 09"41 pace8 -
Great run yesterday @Avidkeo . Enjoy your pilates today.
You're welcome. Glad to see you are doing better @yirara !
Nice running @Laurz9191 . hahaha about the pants. I would have probably just gone in my spandex. That reminded me of a story a friend told about when he was in college. He had a tennis class right after another class, so he would wear his tennis shorts underneath his pants and just take his pants off when he got to the courts. One day he didn't realize he had forgotten the tennis shorts, so the other class memebers got a show.
Great running, as always, @tarun_yadavA .

Nov 2 – 11.01 miles
Nov 3 – 2.03 miles
Nov 5 – 5.11 miles
Total 18.15 miles/Goal 100 miles
I met 3 friends at 5:00 am for 5 miles this morning. It was a warm3 out of 4 of us have the Noxgear running lights. The 4th uses a small headlamp that she wears around her waist. It doesn’t have a light on the back and she often runs in the road instead of on the side walk. I’m always fussing at her that cars from behind can’t see her. Her birthday is this month, so we all chipped in and got her a Noxgear set. She was very happy with it! Her birthday isn’t until later in the month but we were at REI over the weekend and she was going to buy a Nathan vest. I had to do some quick talking to convince her not to buy it and that she needed to wait to buy a Noxgear during their Black Friday sale.
Laughing at the lack of pants story @Laurz9191. My last forget item was a towel. I didn’t discover it until I had finished my shower. It took a lot of paper towels to get this girl dry!
Too funny about the tennis shorts debacle @quilteryoyo!
@yirara – I’m nowhere near as good as @quilteryoyo about commenting on posts and encouraging everyone but I try to hit the high spots when I can. We have such a wonderful, supportive group here. They motivate me every day!

I guess I forgot to post the last couple of runs. Saturday was raining and ugly, so 6 TM.
This morning Rain gone, low 60s. Very nice weather finally. Got in 6.2 miles. Took it slow and kept it easy until the last 0.2 miles.

November Goal: 100 miles
11/1: 8.20 miles
11/3: 5.02 miles
11/5: 4.02 miles
17.24/100 miles completed for November
I took a rest day yesterday. Today the plan called for a 30 minute tempo run. I finished the run at the park, and since I was 1K from home I decided to extend the cool down. I would have been at 3.8 miles when I got home so I just rounded up to 4 miles. It was 54°F feels like 52° with 10-13 mph NNW winds and it was a bit drizzly at times. I felt pretty chilly starting out and I definitely ran the warm up faster than I was supposed to. But all in all, it was a good run.
@Teresa502 The dog does like to run. I keep meaning to talk to the owners. They have twin teenage boys and at least one of them runs cross country. I think she would be really happy if they took her out some.
I do want to say, I am not as good at making personal comments as some of you. Most of the time I am on the app on my phone, but I do read all of your post and I consider you all friends and I appreciate all the encouragement on this thread.

Target 50 miles/80.45k
3 Nov: 2.65mi/4.26k
I couldn’t fit in the scheduled run on Friday due to work travel so reluctantly had to skip it: I got my first run of the month under my belt on Sunday. Coach Jeff has now doubled my long run next Sunday (to 4 miles plus warmup/cooldown) so maybe my old target WILL suffice after all.
Welcome @Emilienewme and welcome back @Avidkeo, and hello to everyone posters and readers alike!

@Teresa502 Great running and sounds like you are such a great group of friends. Hahaha about trying to dry off with paper towels. That must have been a sight to see.
Great run @kgirlhart . I agree that the dog would probably love to run with it's owners. That's a good idea to talk to them about it. I have a hard time commenting if I am on my phone too. I am normally on my laptop, which does make it easier.
@AmunahSki I think Jeff's plans increase the mileage a bit fast for the "normal" runner. But, he does say that you can't walk too much or run too slow on the long runs, so that does make a difference.
I too love this group. You are all very supportive... for running and exercise, recovery from injuries/illnesses, and life challenges in general. Thank you each and every one for being a part of my life.
1 Nov - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 2.40 miles - treadmill - Gym 39m16s

I haven't felt the best today...mild tummy issues and no energy. So, I just walked one mile on the driveway when I went to get my mail.

Nov total: 20.5 miles
YTD: 871/1200 miles
11/2: 8.4 miles
11/3: 4.3 miles
11/4: 4.2 miles
11/5: 3.4 miles
Ran after work today. Luckily all the rain was done and we were left with a pretty evening. It made it much easier to get outside.8 -
Nice little 6k for me today and I felt great. I had one brief break halfway through to stretch my lower back and that’s it. Marvellous.8
-
Nothing for me. Was on call and got 3hrs sleep, and still had to go to work. Decided relaxing was more important than exercise this morning.8
-
Morning all.
Got in 5.6M at 09"41.
@quilteryoyo as always, thank you 😊
@ContraryMaryMary well done on the 6K and no pain7 -
4 miles yesterday makes 21 total out of 100 goal for the month. We had heavy storms Monday night. finally some decent rain! And the run was cooler too. Today it's 50 out so I will have to wear gloves I think!
@quilteryoyo you and others always do an excellent job commenting on posts. I read them all but do find them hard to keep up with. Hope you are feeling better today!
Apparently our theme this month is "pants" stories. 😳😂😂😂 Loving it. I did find a shop who will look at my truck next week for me. Hopefully it's not too pricey a fix but you never know. I probably should sell the truck now that I am not hauling a horse trailer or a boat around anymore. But I like having another vehicle for really bad weather and alternatives....
In other news at work there has been no deviation to the new vacation rules going in to effect in January. Going to be an interesting few months as most of my team is taking off to get their time under 40 hours so they can accrue vacation again in the new year. Including me. LOL. Management official word is that we should manage our teams to have coverage. um. Sorry I am on vacation. 🙃😎🤷♀️ I have 5 folks who work for me and all of them have to take 20+ days. The only option I have is to go outside the system if I want to have coverage. sigh. Which means "giving" folks some of the days they would have accrued in the new year. It's a slippery slope to try to manage. Esp if for some reason I am no longer working then the "deal" is poof. I am still in shock that something as crazy as this would be announced with only 2 months to go instead of at least 6 months to a year. There must be some crazy financial profit and tax break in it for the corp.4 -
November 2024 Goals:
1. Walk/Run 100K (total distance).
2. Exercise for 400 minutes.
3. Walk/Run a 5K, 10K, and 1/2 Marathon.
4. Elevation gain: 2K.
I FINALLY got around to spending some much needed time on Strava, yesterday. Thank you to those of you in this group who've added me! I'll start actually MOVING today or tomorrow. #staytuned6 -
Glad you had good weather for your run @martaindale !
@ContraryMaryMary I am so happy that you can run and your back isn't bothering you!
I agree with you @Avidkeo . Rest is important for your health too.
Nice run @tarun_yadavA .
Great running and thanks @SummerSkier . I'm glad you got some much needed rain. I was expecting a "pants" story from you though. I hope you can figure out the work situation. I know that has to be stressful for the people at your level in the organization.
You've got this @capewrathultra .3 -

Minimal damage. I'll be back-on-track, today. Hoping to hit a new low weight for 2024 by tomorrow morning.5 -
I took 5 days off last week from any running. Just needed the break, plus life getting in the way. Made it up with two back to back 10ks on sat and sun with sunday being a trail run.
But now it's really time for a push if I'm going to do the 20 miler/5300ft race on the winter solstice next month. Just hoping to make the cut off and that it's not stupid cold then.
The universe even gave me a nudge yesterday to go do something when I was feeling lazy. Fast walked 4k. Been doing a lot of walking. Funnily, one of the biggest challenge I have was learning how to walk fast on ultras.
So far 26km of 200km goal for this month. Aiming to average 50km a week. and get to 4000m in elevation gain for the month.

Nov total: 22.9 miles
YTD: 873.4/1200 miles
11/2: 8.4 miles
11/3: 4.3 miles
11/4: 4.2 miles
11/5: 3.4 miles
11/6: 2.4 miles
Short one before work this morning. So much cooler! Still shorts weather but at least I could wear a shirt without overheating.8 -
Morning all.
Well I managed my first goal of the month, 5k ran! 39.19 so on the slow side, but I did it.
So I guess my goal is to run 5k each week and slowly get faster. I'm aiming for a 30min 5k - which will probably take a few months to get there.
No pilates today, and am on call again tonight10 -
@everyone thank you for making me feel so welcome
I am not having the best start for November, my husband is away for work this week and where I would normally make the most of the time between me finishing work at 2pm and having to pick up my son at the school bus at 3:40, I also have to pick up my daughter from her school at 3:10 as her friend who we were car sharing with broke her ankle and is not going to school at the moment. So it looks like until my husband is back on Saturday afternoon, my exercise will be walking around the top of the ice rink when my daughter is training 😅
So I will add my walks to let you all know I am still there, and still moving, although not doing the running I had planned. Hopefully I will catch up after
- 2nd Nov 🏃♀️ 5.06 km in 35:36 min (pace 7:02/km) Saturday parkrun + 🚶♀️1.5 km walking around the rink
- 3rd Nov 🏃♀️5.02 km 36:05 min (pace 7:11/km) usual Sunday run with some of the mums from my daughter's team when the kids are training, give us a chance to exercise and catch up + 🚶♀️ 2.5 km walking around the rink
- 5th November 🚶♀️ 3.2 km walking around the rink
So that's a total of 10.08 km done for running, and 7.2 km walking
I do not have any pants stories, but living in the UK that's probably for the best. Does anybody else live in the UK?
10.08 km done, 69.92 to go7 -
Hi @Emilienewme, it’s frustrating when the stars don’t align - I’m often thwarted by school holidays and sick kids but you do what you can, when you can,
I remember when I did live in the UK moaning to my colleague that my pants had gotten filthy at lunch and the look she gave me was of pure horror. It took about three very awkward seconds before I managed to correct it to trousers!
There are a couple of Brits here, but not many posting regularly. Our resident Londoner, @tarun_yadavA, is here every day and running everyday too!8 -
No running for me today as per the physio’s orders, but I am in the garden. So far I have planted sweetcorn, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, chillies, and spinach. Will head back out this afternoon to plant a couple more roses and to mow the lawn.
I also put a coat of waterproofing on my old stock water tank. I’ll do another coat tomorrow, then I can fill it and plant my water lily. My daughter also wants to get a couple of fish for it, which will be fun, and hopefully another couple of frogs will move in.8 -
Great running/moving everyone!
@Emilienewme Great use of your time. Does your daughter compete in ice skating? I think that is such a elegant and beautiful sport.
hahaha @ContraryMaryMary about your "pants" story. I hope gardening didn't hurt your back today. I thought the physio said you could run? Do they just not want you to run every day?
1 Nov - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 2.40 miles - treadmill - Gym 39m16s
2 Nov - Walked 1.03 miles - Ran 9.97 miles - driveway and rural road
3 Nov - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - treadmill
4 Nov - Walked 0.00 miles - Ran 1.75 miles - cemetery - Gym 44m51s
5 Nov - Walked 1.00 miles - Ran 0.00 miles - driveway laps
6 Nov - Walked 0.50 miles - Ran 2.50 miles - Cemetery - Gym 34m11s - Leaves 1h08m47s
21.15/80 mile goal
I went to the gym this morning and did mostly a cardio workout and some core. When I got finished, I did my run over to the nearby cemetery and back. It was a little tough today, but still faster than normal. The avg pace was 12:03 min/mile. Avg HR was 136 with a max of 152 bpm. Splits were 12:04, 12:10, and 11:46 min/mile.
After I got home, I cleaned out the gutters again and swept/blew the leaves off of the porches and part of the driveway.6 -
Yes @quilteryoyo, she recommended every other day as I rebuild my fitness, and not to run and garden on the same day.
My back was fine with this kind of gardening, it’s the heavy digging I have to watch and I haven’t managed to get round to planting the roses yet - the lawn takes 90 minutes to mow and it’s hot today so I’m now beat.9 -
Yesterday 5 miles and it was 49 deg!!!! One of those nice crisp light wind mornings and the sunrise or presunrise was spectacular. WIll post a photo in spoiler. I had to wear light gloves tho.
Also the lighting was so gorgeous that my normally royal blue morning glories were purple! Of course later they were their normal deep deep blue as the lighting changed. it's just incredible the amount of yellow there is in the evening and early morning light.
Here they are a little later in the day.
That puts me at 26 for the month out of 100 and 1285 for the year. I don't know if I posted this but I did change our Run the Edge team name to honor Shana.... I think about her often for some reason.
Interesting this year I have more walking miles than last but my running miles are down even tho I have no specific injury or illness to mitigate the change.
Hmmm pants means something different to brits I take it. 😂😂😂
7 -
Morning all
I got in 7.0M at 09"57.
@quilteryoyo well done on Hills! 💪🏽
@SummerSkier hope you solved your resourcing conundrum! 20 days paid leave is quite generous by American standards, no? I know of people with less... Get 28 days here. Excluding public holidays, sick etc etc.
And we probably get less than mainland Europe...
@Laurz9191 ??
@Emilienewme hi! I'm Tarun. 44, from Canada water in London!
You?6 -
Good plan @ContraryMaryMary . Glad you were able to mow and not hurt your back.
Great running @SummerSkier . Love the morning glory pictures and that sky is spectacular! I think of Shana a lot too and think it is great that you changed our RTY name to honor her.
Thanks @tarun_yadavA . Great running. I saw an episode of Expedition Unknown last night that was partly filmed in London and thought of you. It was on the treasure of Boudica The warrior queen. He started out in London, at her statue, and asked people who the statue was of, and most had no idea. Would you have known?
4 -
Nov 2 – 11.01 miles
Nov 3 – 2.03 miles
Nov 5 – 5.11 miles
Nov 7 – 5.07 miles
Total 23.22 miles/Goal 100 miles
I was on the struggle bus this morning but got it done. We ran the “hilly” route today. Pace was 19 seconds slower per mile than same route two weeks ago. Oh well, mama said there would be days like this…
Sounds like a very active and productive non-running day @ContraryMaryMary! Nothing beats home grown vegetables. Especially tomatoes.
@Summerskier – beautiful sky and beautiful morning glories.
