    Good morning beautiful ladies!

Rita glad your fall was minor. Still scary though.

Meg so sorry to hear about your DH and the mistaken phone call. Hope his treatment goes well.

I read a police novel, the Missing Witness by Alison Brennan, and that was good but not great. Maybe my expectations were too high because this one was supposed to solve all the origin mysteries in the series. Anyway then I picked up a cute romance by Sarah Adams The Cheat Sheet. That was adorable.

Today Dad has a doctor appointment. I hope he didn't need blood work done because if so, I forgot.

Have a great day! May you be happy, healthy, safe and free!

    Good Friday morning ladies!

Up early this morning, and working on my 2025 budget. Property tax, electric bill, and home insurance will go up. I'm projecting home insurance will double, and hope I'm wrong, but need to be prepared.

Had a nice visit with M yesterday at lunch. We talked about how we now "get it". When we were younger we couldn't understand why our parents and grandparents were hesitant to leave the house much as they aged. Rambling on...
For example, I've been invited to T's family Thanksgiving, as is customary. This year, the meal will be at her parent's house, which is farther away. It means I'd have to drive home in the dark. It will likely be raining. I really don't mind staying home, and just might pass this year.

I thought of my widowed grandmothers who weren't excited about attending holiday meals at my mom's house. They'd decline but we'd nag and coax them into it. I'll bet here are some reasons they'd turn down the invite - having to dress in clothing which isn't worn often and maybe didn't fit quite right, and needed to be washed and ironed. Lots of noise and multiple conversations going on at the same time - hard to hear. House too hot or too cold. An interruption from their normal routine. Uncomfortable chairs. Having to use a strange bathroom - maybe a lot. Food that was different than they were used to and might not agree with them. Neither of them drove, so they had to depend on someone having to come to town and pick them up then ferry them home, often on snowy, slick roads. We kids were good drivers and to us, the drive wasn't a problem, but still - a little worrisome for them.

M related similar. We decided we are slowly becoming our parents and grandparents, and probably for the same reasons. :p

I pulled the chicken bones out of the freezer and will get the crockpot going today to make bone broth.

It's foggy right now, and it's going to eventually be sunny this afternoon if the weatherman gets it right. I need to caulk some areas of the chicken coop once the wood dries out a bit. I don't mind doing the chicken chores, it's fun to keep busy. ;)

Historical, possibly political re RFK Jr. on the JFK assassination , feel free to skip:
I plan to watch an interview with RFK Jr. done months ago when he was still running for President. I saw a short clip, where he talked about his uncle JFK's assassination and the Warren Report. And how others were involved - it wasn't just Lee Harvey Oswald. (This isn't anything new, books and films have been made about it.) I was in 7th grade, and vividly remember when my teacher was called out of the classroom after lunch then came back in and told the class about JFK. She was crying. I'm a history buff, so I'm looking forward this and hearing RFK Jr's information on it. He'll also talk about his thoughts for the healthcare system.

Better post this before I lose it. I need to catch up with you ladies too.

Heather When I was teaching I would have an occasional student that wore a weighted vest. The idea behind it was it helped to ground them. I think it did help. Breathing exercises can also help with racing thoughts. Grounding exercises are also helpful. (Going outside barefoot and walking in the grass...working in a garden...taking a walk in nature)

Finding NO Grain NO Pain motivating to keep me on track. I am noticing less pain in joints and muscles on my current diet. Losing close to 30 pounds also helps. So far I'm keeping it off!

The author also emphasizes the importance of movement, intermittent fasting, sunlight, and sleep.

He did talk about how fat replaces muscles and in some circumstances the body will raid the muscles to get the resources it needs to survive. The joints depend on healthy muscles to help them move. When the balance is off (too much inflammation) that is what can start the downward spiral. An overabundance of fat on a body is a sign of inflammation (I have read this before). It is getting at the causes of this inflammation (food choice, lack of sleep, lack of movement, lack of sunlight) and making changes is the long term answer. Unfortunately introducing most of the pharma drugs only mask the symptoms and will work in the short term but often fail long term.

He also talked about my plate...It was used to tweek the pryamid food guidelines of the 80's. In that pyramid it recommended 8-11 servings of grain based foods a day. My plate was a way of placating the use of grain in the diet. He believes it is still too high.

Our food system is based on grain and sugar so it is not easy to go against this trend. I have been at it about a year now and still am tweeking my diet. I do know improving my choices has improved my health. I also find it easier to turn down the breads, crackers, cookies, and cakes. I focus on being with the friends and relatives rather than the food now.

He does recommend if someone does force a food choice you know does not work for you to put a small amount on your plate and then leave it uneaten.

Just finished my Zoom with my old schoolfriends. P had just been to a Bob Dylan concert at the Royal Albert Hall. She was very moved by it all. She went alone, but talked to a couple of superfans sitting next to her.

I did get to the pharmacy and the flower shop. Just bought a few blooms for the dining room table. I do love fresh flowers.

John has been struggling with our printer, which is flooding. He has improved it somewhat, and now has black and white, but the procedures to mend it are soooo complicated, it was driving him nuts. I need it to do a very short Round Robin for my Christmas cards. Just a general update on my operations etc. We do have a computer guy around the corner, so I wonder if he could sort out the printer! ?
I have done a quick preliminary declutter of a cupboard in this room I sleep in. I was horrified to see how much useless stuff John has been keeping. Super thick jumpers he never wears, loads of belts ditto, black socks galore, old towels. I got rid of one old towel and a cushion. Sorted socks into a pile, but I couldn't face the thick jumpers. I now have a bag for the bin. :p I just hate old things taking up space, but I can’t throw his things away without asking. It just feels like an old man's lethargy to let things accumulate. He probably doesn't know what's there, or care. Ugh.

Love to all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Just made a cheese soup with broth I made, quarter cup grass fed half and half, an ounce of grass fed cheese, fresh basil, dill, parsley, pepper. I didn't add any thickener. It was delicious and filling. I had an apple with cinnamon and a small dark chocolate square for dessert.

I followed the suggestion to smell your food and eat in a quiet place. It was a delicious easy to prepare lunch. Having easy and quick tasty meals helps me stay on track and use ingredients with less processing. I love using fresh herbs too!

The concert sounds amazing. That's the Hall with the huge organ correct? I follow the organist Anna Lapwood. There's a couple concerts she has "inserted" the organ into. Huge crowd listening to the instruments or bands playing then she starts playing the organ and just takes the piece to a new level. She practices through the night pieces, because that is the time slot she can do it. The bands hear her as they are setting up and like the band Bonobo, they needed to have the organ in their songs.

Oh Lee would be so upset if I got rid of anything that's his, whether it be clothes or stuff. I would at least run the items by John before pitching them for the bin. Just my views anyways.💖

Mo - I saw your Land's End pants were on sale for 50% off so I took a chance and ordered a pair. Also, I loved your husband's "60 Seconds of Hope" this morning. Especially this: I’ve been happily married to an extraordinary woman for nearly 30 years now <3 That's our Mo! <3

Barbie - so happy Jake's daughter was able to come visit. She's the ideal person to oversee your and Jake's care and arrangements. Wonderful peace of mind to have someone like that. Crossing fingers the Zoom problem can be fixed. I've lost the camera on this old HP laptop after a recent update. I don't know if it's a W11 problem or what. I've given up trying to fix it - the one on my other Dell laptop works fine OK (W10). This HP continues to act loopy and something tells me it's going to conk out beginning of the year. So I need to get busy and see about that Chromebook as eventual back-up.

Also, after reading how content you are to stay at home, I'm betting if Jake passes before you, you probably won't change your program much. In other words, you won't be so lonely you'll end up at a senior center or find things to do with others. I still get comments "you must be lonely, why not do some volunteering and go out and be among people?" At this stage, I can't imagine doing anything like that. The internet has opened up a whole new world to us older folks who tend to be introverted - so much information at our fingertips, the ability to connect with people all over the world and at our convenience too. :) And our beloved pets give us plenty of "human" contact. :p

Rebecca - wise observations. You have a lot of good memories of past holidays; keep enjoying the family stuff when you can. Who knows what our lives will look like in 5 years? We all might be living elsewhere or with family and/or friends closer by and making new traditions. :p

Rita - how nice of your friend to stop in and visit, great photo. Also, glad you didn't hurt yourself after the fall. I seem to find holes to step in at least twice a year that cause me to stumble. My lawn is a mine field. :#

Heather - good job on the decluttering project. As I went through DH's side of the closet and chest of drawers after he passed, I came across a lot of clothing I'll bet he didn't know he had and I could have donated them and he wouldn't have known... other than to wonder why there was now so much space. :p

Meg - sorry to hear about your DH, very glad it was caught early and sounds like the treatment plan is a good one. Crazy though about the NP. Good thing you looked it up - had you not caught it, would someone else have picked up the ball? I've gotten into the habit of getting paper copies of the labs and accessing as many visit records as I can. A couple years ago I went online to check records after a doc visit and discovered my BMI was suddenly in the upper 30's! The nurse had entered my height wrong. I messaged Dr. Lisa and told her I knew I'd been shrinking with age but to now be 4' tall surprised me. She said oops and next time I'm in, get re-measured. We laughed about it, but I wonder what would have happened if I had a condition where I referred to a specialist for something and that BMI of 39 would have triggered some kind of a treatment plan that wasn't appropriate for me? Especially during Covid where there were so many telehealth visits?

I also ordered a copy of surgical notes after my gall bladder removal. The surgeon wrote that I appeared to be "well nourished" ( :D ) but he had my age 5 years older than I actually was! Whut? No harm done except maybe to my pride.

Annie - glad to hear your sister is coming. You are shouldering a lot with your dad by yourself there, and now with your tummy issues, which stress can make worse.

Margaret - continued gratitude for the information you post about nutrition. Great reminders to eat healthy. Keep them coming. Your soup sounded yummy. What kind of cheese did you use?

Chicken bone broth concoction is cooking in the crockpot. Tomorrow at 8 am will be 24 hours. Added celery, carrots, onion, a little AC Vinegar and tarragon for the herb.

Michele - I'm in awe of your ceramics, it looks like so much fun. Were you into ceramics when you lived up north?

Debbie- yes, homeowner's insurance is likely to keep rising. Cost of replacement I guess. There are so many rising costs that aren't included in the CPI which determines Medicare COLA's and raises for many people still employed. No wonder so many people can't keep up. :(

Sun is out. Let the girls out for a little run and applied some silicone caulk around spots where I think water was getting in. May need a few more applications but I'm hoping this will help. I see I'm going to have to apply another coat or two of polyurethane next year to protect the wood.

I mentioned the cupboard to John. He seemed to know about the socks, but was a bit defensive about the belts and jumpers. The belts are those free ones you get with trousers, and never wear. There is one good one amongst them. He said he would take a look. It is important for me not to press him, but allow him to find his own way. He usually gets there in the end.

I too much prefer staying at home to doing anything else. Most of the people I 'follow' are exactly the same. I have always hated having too much to do, and need lots of space in my life. My priority is my writing, and for that I need lots of 'moodling' time. I hate having to be responsible for anything, hence no pets, no indoor plants, no car of my own, no organising, no proper gardening, other than a wild garden. Nothing gives me more pleasure than a blank diary.

My new music favorite. His name is Claudio Constantini. An accordion player. Just so relaxing. Some of his French cafe music you just sip something and breathe the imagery in.💖👍🏼

    About doctors missing things ...

I went to a particular clinic and saw one doctor there, but also had a back-up doctor. Then all at once both left the clinic and I was scrambling to find someone new.

My first option was to find someone else within the clinic. I chose the one I thought would be the best but she was getting ready to go to the Netherlands for an extended visit (she was Dutch) and even though the trip was several months away, she was very distracted.

So distracted that when the results of an ultrasound came back, she missed this bit entirely.

    puq8ucmbzerd.png

My eGFR is in the 60 -89 range which also may mean early-stage kidney disease, especially in combination with an ultrasound result like the one above.

Definitely not as serious as missing lung cancer!!

But I'd still like a doctor who can read the bold type on a report.

@grandmallie thanks! I don't qualify for diabetic meds as I am only prediabetic but have a prescription for Wegovy but it has been on backorder for months and my insurance runs out end of year. I'm happy for your success however! That's great!
