Over 60

Hi everyone. I’m new here and noticed an over 60 group. I’d like to be a part of this but not sure how.
In July of this year I decided I needed to get serious about my health if I want to live a long healthy life. It seems the older you get, the more you think of the importance of having your health. You get to a point where you don’t take it for granted anymore.
Since then I’ve been able to loose 20 lbs, I joined MFP in early Oct and took on the walking challenge for 9,000 steps a day earlier in the month. I’m not quite there yet but making progress.
Would love to get involved with a support group of like minded people.

I am right with you. Thanks for posting. Congrats on the weight loss and the steps! What great momentum going into the holidays.
Right now, I am committing to intermittent fasting, tracking food and 60 minutes of exercise.
My biggest challenge is continuity amid life's curveballs. Yours?

Hello! Joined (or rejoined) this morning and have similar reason & plan. Based on past experiences, I know what tends to work best for me & getting it implemented. My issue is maintaining longer than 30-45 days especially when life events and emotions get involved.

    Thanks for your responses.
I just got notification my free trial is ending in a couple days. I was really questioning myself as to whether it was worth the money for a year cause my track record on sticking to things is not great🤪
That said, I bit the bullet and I’ve taken on the year. With this forum it may help stay focused.
I’m very familiar with intermittent fasting and do believe it works. It’s taken a bit to figure out my sweet spot for this. I’m trying a 14:10 right now.
The biggest challenge I’m having is getting enough protein. I have a sensitivity to casein (protein in dairy) and egg whites. Back in the day I would eat yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese etc to get protein. But no more.
Hopefully we can help one another with staying committed.

It's nice to be in the same boat with you. After menopause it's been a real struggle, well the fat won. Lol so I'm trying 1300 calories a day and exercise. I'm hoping I have it in me to succeed. Well I have to I'm pre diabetic and I don't want full fledged diabetes. So please send me good vibrations my way, thank you. I'm 61 and tired.

If your first post is in part how to join the "60 yrs and up" thread here in this part of the MFP Community, you join by posting on the thread, just the same way you're replying on this one.

Don't panic if you open that up and see old posts. Like any long- running thread here, all the new posts are at the end, on the high-numbered pages. You can jump straight there using the page-number or arrow links near the top/bottom of any page of the thread. It's still active.

I'm a participant there. I'm female, 69, was overweight/obese for around 30 years, used MFP calorie counting to lose around 50 pounds back at age 59-60 (menopausal, severely hypothyroid (medicated), some osteoarthritis, etc.).

I've been at a healthy weight since, huge improvement in all health markers and quality of life. I'm hanging around here to maintain that healthy weight.

I'm far from the only one in our demographic who's accomplished weight management, health or fitness improvement goals here. I'm betting you can do it, too, with commitment, plus a moderate amount of patience and perseverance.

I'm cheering for you to succeed: The results are worth the effort!

It’s so encouraging when you see others with the same challenges as my self!
It’s been a bit since I’ve posted only because I was having difficulty finding my post and responses😊
How’s it going for everyone? I didn’t make the 9,000 steps in a month but I’m still trying.
It’s been a challenge as my Mom is in palliative care at home and I’m her main care giver. I have great intentions but then I get pulled in a different direction.
I continue to stay optimistic. Doing the best I can.

@cruising132 two things that might be helpful:

If you want to address a post to someone in particular see the @ sign and their user name, like I did above.

That will put a flag in their notifications that that ID has been “called upon” on the boards.

When you look at your own notifications (if you’re using the iOS app, that’d be your photo in the top right corner of this page) , you’ll see this post because I did so with your ID.

Second, you can easily bookmark a thread. If you do, any new posts to your bookmarked thread will also show up in your notifications.

Highlight the bookmark til it turns blue.

PS there’s another over 60 thread that’s way more active than this one, also on the Introduce Yourself board. Be sure to look for it.
