Allie - The haircut looks great. Do you like having shorter hair to deal with? I don't think I'll ever go back to longer hair. My sister even cut her hair, and it was almost three feet long. Got tired of dealing with it all.
Ah, there goes Corey, time to gently shoo Egg off my lap and get started on a couple things.
Later, my lovelies,

I can't imagine me cutting my hair- I wish it would actually grow longer but hasn't really grown in years. It is just past my waist when wet but it is super curly(ringlets) when dry so just barely to the middle of my back or a bit shorter-depending on if I put the curl activator product in and which one I use).
I trim my hair but not very often. Haven't cut my hair in over 45 yrs. Most I have cut off was a trim dh gave me- told him just an inch- took 4 inches off. Never let him cut my hair again. Now, I put it in a braid, cut off the bottom inch or so and call it good- yep- VERY low maintanance for me

Anniesquats100 wrote: »I never found anyone who could manage my hair. It is dead straight, no body, thin and fine. It doesn't curl unless I glue each curl and then it's a sticky mess. So I stopped fighting it. I just didn't want to spend an hour a day fixing and cleaning my hair. I let it hang straight and I stopped cutting it because that was also an unrewarding hassle. Long hair really isn't any trouble for me. It stays in place behind my shoulders mostly.
My mom used to say a lot of unkind things about how I might be attractive if I only had curly hair. Bah humbug. I try to think I am a wonderful person no matter what my hair does.
Yes it's still a trigger for me. Especially since I really want to wash it before Thanksgiving dinner but I can't leave Dad alone so I'm kind of stuck.
Annie in Delaware
My sisters used to tease me about my curly hair- and then they both went in and got perms- What a crazy mess that was.
Growing up, mom made me put my hair in those big hard curlers and sleep in them over night each time I washed my hair. Thankfully I only washed it once a week- Sunday nights. (now I wash it Saturday nights so it looks its' best on Sunday morning for church. By Friday, it is in a ponytail)

On Tuesday, my Rose was quite demanding. I took care of a boy who just got out of Peds ICU. This 7-year-old boy was intubated and placed on a vent. This poor boy was beaten by his 17-year-old brother. This boy suffered a skull fracture and subdural hematoma, with some bleeding noted and TBI. The parents were devastated, for the boy was mild-mannered and loved to hide in a quiet place to read. Two doors down, there is a baby that is only 3 months old and has brain damage because her mother and father beat her. Forensics is getting called in. That poor baby wanted to be held all night, to be reassured. We all took turns holding her. I don't understand people.

We were foster parents for a few years until we got tired of the run around with the social workers.
One of the placements was an 8 month old little boy. He came to us with his 3 skull fracture. He ended up going back to the mom just a few months later. Always pray for the ones that came through our house.

Interesting fact - his dad passed away this summer. They buried him in the family plot right on the farm. K and his brother and brother in law dug the grave themselves and handled everything, as was probably done 100 years ago. Afterward, there was a big potluck and celebration of Dad's life. In the photos K posted, they all had smiles on their faces. What a loving family and great send-off.
Ok ladies, beef is in the crockpot and smelling great.
Lanette

My dad, aunt, uncle, cousin(and soon two more cousins, his brothers/their sons) are all buried on the property where mom lives. Plus her dog and my sister's dog-soon a cousin's dog. Mom has requested to be buried out there also. Sure hope I am the one that gets the property so I can keep it in the family beings everyone will be buried there.
Time to feed all the cats then get ready for class- need to cook up some salmon while I do that for dh.
Today is his birthday and he is in a mood, like always- had to run a ton of errands for his mom after being over there this morning(and he is over there now). I wanted to take him to lunch but he didn't want to. No place good in town and not enough time to drive out of town where he wanted to go so he just didn't eat except a beef stick and crackers. Having a pity party for one all day. His mom didn't even mention his birthday at all. Doesn't help that I have class tonight but oh well- We are having our Friends-giving after a short class- only gone a little over an hour.

well I am finally caught up and I agree this has been a tough year for a lot of us. I have spent this last month trying to figure out who I am without that job. For 37 years (last 8 as supervisor) that was a large part of what I did. Yesterday I finally got my colonoscopy done. It was very emontional as had to go back to the hospital I worked at. So many not happy with the new system and told me how much they wish I could come back. Not my desion and the people in charge won't change. I did get a clean report so good for 5 years,
My plan for now is to rest and take care of me. I have applied for acouple jobs and so far nothing. I think at this point I will wait until the first of the year.
Rita--So sorry about what happened with Jim. So unfair. Really like your tree.
Heather--Happy for your 2 cruises to look forward too. Happy b-layed 20th Anniversary. Our 40th was Nov 3. Seems the years have gone by so fast.
Barbie--So glad Jake is doing better. That would be so scary. Glad his daughter came to visit and hopefully can help when he has surgery.
Meg--Glad to see you post. Prayers for DH.
Has anyone heard anything from Kelly J?
Lisa--Your projects are beautiful sorry you didn't have better sales.
Tracey--Your project are beautiful also. I understand how thoughts of your dad are bitter sweet. Mine has been gone almost 22 years and mom 8 years I still find times I want to call to share something with them. Feels like I lost them again.
Rosemarie & Sue--Hugs and prayers.
Annie--Glad your sister was able to visit over your birthday.
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and we have no plans. Last Saturday we had dinner with youngest son and daughter and families.
Friday we will go to our oldest son and celebrate with them and thier kidss and grandkids. Now that they are adults we can't make them get along. Also son turned 50 last Sunday. That makes me feel old. DH and I along with DS and his wife went to Red Lobster for late lunch. It was nice just the four of us.
Rebecca--Great picture of 2 of your boys.

Barbie, thanks, that makes sense about your friend. I use cruise control to keep my speed within limits… You are right about trying to control or improve others, and vice versa. Loving conversations ;} On your recommendation, checked out a Clare Pooley book but can’t remember the title just now
Okie so glad that pain is behind you. “Too young for double knee replacements.” What an ordeal!
Michele hear you about prices going up. Reached for an artichoke at Grocery Outlet, then saw the $4.99 price tag and threw it back!
Sue ((warm hugs held extra long)) Being without heat is so wearing. ((hugs)).
Ginny your comment about your faith and not speaking up. Have you read the book “Boundaries”?
Machka I agree that no one has the right to tell me I’m wrong to feel the way I just expressed. That cat pic is a fair representation of what my reaction would be. Sandwiches, brilliant!
Rita likewise lots of confrontation growing up. Mama and Papa argued every night at the dinner table, it was their dynamic, the spice in their marriage. I hated it and threw up frequently. Fortunately Joe is very self-contained and not confrontational at all. I know how lucky I am. ((hugs))
Heather, absolutely everything you said, especially about people making themselves sick by keeping so much locked inside.
Lisa, yes! Telling the happy making behaviors is the most important imho. Lays the foundation for being able to tell the unhappy making behaviors in the most loving possible way. They really can’t read our minds, nor can we theirs.
Pip so excited for your cruise!
Lanette, yah. One of the things I learned when Joe and I went through counseling was that while I need to verbalize blather on to process/get to the point, Joe doesn’t hear anything after the first 2 or 3 bullet points. If I need to process, I call a friend, or blather on here. When I need Joe to hear me, I take time to distill it down to the main 3 points then STOP TALKING and let him process. It’s really improved our communication.
Mo ((hugs held extra extra extra long)). I don’t understand either.
Terri the seed planting ;}
Vicki glad to see you posting, really glad you plan to rest and take care of yourself.
Haven’t heard from Kelly/KJ but she is posting to FB. Has anyone heard from Kim or Betsy?
Thanksgiving prep: Dressing pre-baked. Brussels sprouts pre-roasted. Tomorrow will roast turkey and sweet potatoes, warm up dressing and sprouts, make gravy, sauce for sprouts, open champagne. Joe bought pie and cheese cake for dessert.
Christmas shopping: none done, only buy for Joe and will be only consumables this year as we both agreed we have enough stuff. Will send goodies and checks to nephews and god daughter.
Speaking up. It breaks my heart to hear how so many of your husbands attack you for disagreeing, no wonder you keep your feelings bottled in. I’m so fortunate that my grievances with Joe are few, and minor. When the rare big thing comes up, and I can hear my voice (and blood pressure) rising, I use one of our key cool-down phrases: “I cannot agree. I hope you will reconsider. Can we talk about this some more later?” It’s code, Joe knows it’s time to back off. It works most of the time.
Gratitudes:
Wednesday: Aerobic, almost two hours (sitting out only two dances) line dance class last night. Restorative, dreamless second sleep this morning.
Tuesday: Joe announced he was able to walk the entire mailbox round trip without needing to stop to catch his breath, even on the last hill!
Decluttering challenge Day 4x/30 no progress,
Later, lighter, lovelies!

Heather - Fingers crossed for Edie. We’re going to have Michaela here on the 7th- 8th we’ll both be visiting with our granddaughter.
Congratulations to your DIL, they sure are busy those two but they seem to be handling it.
I find with the acrylic metallics, I paint a base coat of colour first and then my second coat with the metallic.
Machka - I wish I had been taught to stand up for myself, I was more taught to be a people pleaser and to be more accommodating to other people especially your spouse.
In my work life I am much more assertive.
You’ve had a busy week. I used a memory foam mattress topper when my hip was so bad. I actually found later that I needed more support. It’s a delicate balance this sleeping thing.
Lanette - I have been going to Great Clips for years. My last haircut and my favourite in quite sometime Lauryn gave me. She took a little hair cutting in school.
Terri - I do the same thing with Rodger most of the time. It’s not working right now though.
Allie - great picture of you and Dan.
I know there was a lot more to comment on, but I’m tired again this evening.
Rodger made these little snowmen this summer. I just dressed this guy tonight. I have two more to do. I really hope they don’t all sell. I want them too for sales, but I want some myself.

My bed has quite a firm mattress, which I like, but I have arthritis in my right hip and it has been painful lately. I also have arthritis in my feet and they have been screaming with pain lately. Going to bed on the firm mattress puts my right hip and both feet on contact with the mattress which hurts. I end up tossing and turning a lot.
Two nights with the memory foam mattress topper, and I think I lie still longer. I'm not immediately in pain and have the impression that there is less tossing and turning. So I think I am sleeping better.

Short walk at lunch to get supplies for cycling event on weekend.
24 flights of 20 stairs = 480 individual stairs today.
It's unlikely I'll do more stairs before the end of the month because I'm working from home tomorrow, so my total flights of stairs for the month is 270 flights of 20 stairs = 5400 individual stairs in November.
And then I nipped out for a bicycle ride.
The cycling event this weekend is a 208.3 kilometer ride (that's 129.4 miles) with 4,259 metres of climbing (that's 13,973 feet) to be completed within 13.5 hours.
It is quite a challenge!! I have never ridden it and couldn't right now. I'm not fit enough.
But there are quite a number of cyclists here who enjoy taking on the challenge.
Unfortunately, although it is supposed to be summer on December 1, there's supposed to be heavy rain and possibly thunderstorms. So we'll likely have a lot of drop-outs. Which means we'll have a lot of food left over!

Good morning beautiful ladies!
Allie I really like your new haircut!
Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! We are going across the street to my Aunt's. I am bringing wine and ice tea. My basic process for ice tea is to make some really strong hot tea, add honey, then ice. So easy.
My real challenge this morning is to keep my Dad busy enough that I can shower. I usually do it when he is at his class but he didn't go this week. And he's been very clingy while I was sick. I guess I will just trust him for a few minutes. It's raining so he isn't likely to leave the house.
I'm behind in my chores from dishes to everything else. But I am grateful too, for a roof over my head and food to eat and a peaceful house. My car is in good shape. And my books and my Amazon account. I ordered two Christmas puzzles for Dad and some trinkets for the bathroom and of course, a few more books. And I'm grateful that my Dad is living a good life. And my friends and family. Things are really pretty good.
Have a great day! May the food be glorious and the family conflicts be minimal. May you all be happy, healthy, safe, and free!

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate... Hope it's a lovely day.
Heard a lady in Aldi yesterday say to her friend, "Yeah, I graduated from Thanksgiving and let my daughter take it over." Thought it was a great way to say it. I've "graduated" from most holiday celebrations, and genuinely love that. It is the line I plan to use on our kids after this one.
But... Corey's got what he's going to grill out to thaw... and I've got beans bubbling on the stove, with the ham bone that he carved out for me carefully ensconced in the pot... and the house is already smelling amazing. Sausage balls are made up already and in the fridge - they'll go right in the oven when John texts to say they're on their way. The only thing left is getting cornbread ready to go in the oven, and that takes just moments.
The plan for entertainment is to get the new (Black Friday sale) TV on the mantel, with the extra hands coming in to help, and then do the TV shuffle... the one on the mantel now will come in my workroom, the one in my workroom will move over to become my laptop monitor, and I don't really know what I'm going to do with the computer monitor. We've been able to move the living room to use all of it, instead of most of it, by moving our chairs back four feet.
Time to get Corey another cup of coffee... and get a few things done to prep for the TV move(s).
Later, y'all,
Love from Arkansas,
Lisa4 -
Happy Thanksgiving. I am up dressed and checking in with all of you. DH set up this laptop for me and learning how to use it.
Not a lot planned today. Going to be cold 22 now and only to get up to 38. Atleast no snow yet.
Watching the Marcy's parade and going to put up Christmas sruff inside.
Tracey--love the snowman. I bet they will sell.
Take care and thank you for being here.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND,NE2 -
Meant to say earlier - KJ shows up on FB every few days, Kylia posted about the kittens about a week ago, also on FB, and this is Kim's busiest season, with last minute embroidery requests, so I'm sure she's reading, just too busy to post. That's all the K's that are MIA!
Vicki - meant to say how good it was to see you pop in yesterday, had been worried about you, and am glad to hear you're going to take the next month off from job searching. You genuinely deserve the time to relax as much as you can, and I hope you're able to help yourself take that time.
Back to my doings!

Heather – best of luck to Edie
Here it is, Thurs. I did a piiates DVD then made the stuffing, peeled the potatoes, grated the cheese for the mac & cheese tomorrow. This afternoon I’ll probably go out and help Vince put out the small Christmas trees near the log cabin. We probably wouldn’t have used the log cabin this year since we used it last year. But Jess gave me this blowmold of a small car with Santa in it that I think will go nicely next to the log cabin. Now I just need to clean the house. Really, not a whole lot to do, but enough.
Lanette – I’ve started going to the local cosmetology school’s salon, so I don’t get the same person cutting my hair all the time (or actually any time). I just figure that if all I’m doing is getting a few inches cut off to get the dead ends off, do I really need to spend a lot of money?
I used to color my hair and then when the pandemic hit and I couldn’t go to the hairdresser’s I couldn’t get over how much gray I had so ever since then I’ve just been letting it be the color Mother Nature wants it to be. I just trim my own bangs
Annie – you ARE a very wonderful person. I’m so very grateful to know you
Yesterday I made the sweet potato casserole, the green bean casserole, and the honey glazed carrots. Didn’t do well at bowling tomorrow. I REALLY can’t wait to go to the podiatrist Tues. This heel is really a pain. Hopefully, it’s something that can be fixed quickly.
Oh, made the apple pie the other day. Was going to make the pumpkin pie yesterday and opened the fridge looking for the other piecrust. What I did was when I baked the apple pie, I baked two crusts together (each in an aluminum pan). And I didn’t have enough apples for another pie. So what I did was I bought more pie crusts (I probably could have bought more apples at that time, just didn’t think of it) and baked the apple pie (after covering it with aluminum foil) for about another 10 minutes. Hope the bottom baked! We shall find out tomorrow….
I need to wear my hair in a ponytail for work and the soup kitchen. At work I also need to wear a baseball cap. I’m not crazy about them, but they’re paying me to wear a cap so I’ll wear a cap (same thing for t-shirt and black shoes)
I miss Kelly, too, and her tales about the kiddos
Denise called. Unfortunately, PJ was watching TV and didn’t talk to us. Seems she fractured her foot, her car is in for service, Pete had to have his esophagus expanded. But it also seems that PJ is doing OK in kindergarten.
I really wish people would buy only what’s on my Christmas list. I really don’t need other “stuff”. But Vince feels you should get something you’d like, not something you need. Personally, I’d rather get something I need because then I use it all the time and think of that person. Like every time I use the IP that Colby gave me, I think of him. Same for the pasta attachment for my mixer. I may only use it once/year, but I’m ever so grateful for it.
Barbara – yea for Joe walking and not being out of breath!!
Allie – meant to say how much I like your hair. It really fits your face
Michele NC3 -
Allie-I do like your haircut-I think it makes you look younger.
Heather-hope things go well for Edie and her testing.
Barbara AHMOD-After your comment I went back reread my comment and it contains a typo I meant to say I hesitate to speak up at times because I think it may be my fault-I like to carefully review my part in the situation before speaking up. Something I finally learned with my husband when he was doing his "venting" (he would fly off the handle and yell and speak without thinking. After a a few years of trying to argue with him, when he would start I would say to myself "Don't say anything if it will not help the situation." Most of the time I let him rant and didn't respond so he had no fuel to keep his fire going. He would wind down and reflect and we could discuss. He was really doing well at changing his approach when he passed.
Regarding hair, got stitches out of head yesterday. Plastic surgeon remarked a couple of times that my hair grows back really quickly so I must be pretty healthy. He also said I am a quick healer. Both observations made me feel good.
Hope those of you celebrate have a good Thanksgiving. And even if you don't celebrate-have a good day. Got a two mile walk in and now am off to shower. Going to son's house in a bit.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

Watching the Macy’s parade on Peacock and feel bad for them all. It’s raining in New York and I saw one of the ballet dancers fall and another ripped the clear rain coat he was wearing. Rough weather for a parade. Even so, the streets are lined with people, all in rain gear. DH was wondering last night why it is always bad weather on Thanksgiving? At least it’s not snowing here or in New York! Cold and overcast here. Don’t need any more rain or flooding!! Our bridge is still down to only one lane since the last rain! Oh, well.. It is what it is.
DH started cooking dinner last evening for here. He made 2 pumpkin pies last night and the RV still smells so good! Can’t wait for dinner!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Have a great day whether you celebrate or not!

Had Thanksgiving dinner on Tuesday with son and friend...I bought a fresh half Turkey from Farmer's Market. It was a challenge to figure out how long to cook it. It was 10.5 pounds which meant it was from a 21 pound Turkey. The leg is huge. I bought a disposable roasting pan, put apples on the bottom, and homemade broth. Then covered in heavy duty tin foil vented for 3 hours 325-350. It got done but I did not take the foil off in time so the skin did not brown. The meat was wonderful. I made the gravy with arrowroot so I could eat it. The squash was great too. I made a delicata squash. Yum! I did have stuffing and rolls for my company. The cranberry sauce I bought because it is similar to my mom's pureed cranberries, orange, sugar has just the right amount of Tang. Steamed green beans were also served. An apple pie from a better quality grocery that I have had in the past and know it is good. Just bout a half pie and pint of ice cream so no leftover dessert. NON alcoholic apple cherry juice to mimic my mom's love of Paul Mason Rose wine.
Great meal and company...Friend brought me roses which I put into a vase my mom would use for her roses. Perfect...
These are the flowers I am taking to my neighbor's tonight...
HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Thinking of you all in the US, on this day.
I went out for lunch with G. I glammed up in my long velvet skirt, my winter white sweater, and my black Chanel jacket. Nice fake gold earrings. I so rarely go out of the house that it's good to dress up a bit. We both had the grilled hake in caper sauce, and I had salad with mine. Affogato for dessert.
Afterwards, I managed to walk up the hill to M&S, where the buses are. My knee was OK, but I was a bit out of breath. Boo! I must work on my cardio. In the shop G bought a ready meal, and we were just glancing round the clothes section, when I spied some black leggings with a silver, narrow line down the sides. I couldn't try them on, because there was a long queue for the changing room, so I just bought them. They do fit, although the waist is a bit snug. John approved of them. I was very bloated from a good lunch, so I think they can only get more comfortable. They are nice and warm, and I love the silver touch.
Before I set off, I tried on some knee length, very expensive boots, I haven't worn in years. The zip was very stiff and the leather had gone all suedy inside the zip, so I had bits all over the carpet. I decided to give them away as they weren't comfortable, but first rubbed off the suedy bits with my fingers. I tried to get it off the carpet with wet wipes, and succeeded in turning my finger nails black! It wouldn't wash off! So, with minutes to go, I was removing my colourless nail varnish and having to redo it. Ugh! The lesson is, don't keep things for years that you don't wear, because time deteriorates most things, especially leather.
I still have to bring the vacuum upstairs to get the rest off the carpet.
I'm making the Keralan coconut curry tonight, from a pouch. Adding king prawns and lots of veg. I blanched the broccoli this morning.
Thanks, Carol, for that website. I'm going to keep a look out for the gf puff pastry!
G and I had a bit of a disagreement about a proposed school year reunion next year. She really wants to go, but I'm neutral. If I do go, I think I'll ask John to take me, and get a very expensive taxi back. It's around 23 miles. To be quite honest, I'm in touch with anyone I liked at school, and really not interested in the others. She is very loyal to old friends and acquaintances, even to people she doesn't much like. I am more selective and happy to stay at home!
