Hello. My name is Adam. After 30 years of heavy drinking, I finally sobered up 05/14/2024. Mentally, I've been healing, but now I need some work physically. I came across this app/website. I'm excited to feel better. Thanks for letting me join the community.

Welcome @bogart71us, and congratulations on your new(ish) sobriety! My partner and many of my friends are sober/recovering, so I know it's a tough, constant journey you're on. Much respect.
Great news; by eliminating alcohol from your diet you've already taken a huge first step in improving your diet, purely on a carbs/calorie level. My not professional advice would be; if you can help it, don't replace the alcohol with soda, as that's another huge (but reasonably easy for most) way to cut unneeded calories from your day- though maybe you already know that!
In any case, you are very welcome here and hope to see you around more.0 -
Hi bogart71us! Welcome, and a big congratulations on being free since 05/14/2024.
I wish you well on your adventures!0 -
Thank you. I did exactly that. I replaced alcohol with pop (soda, I'm from the midwest, we call it pop, sorry) and junk food. Sobriety has been an up and down ride for the last 237 days. Through counseling I'm learning to be more open.
I do plan on staying on the app for assistance in getting into shape as well as staying on the community board for the sharing of support.2 -
Thanks Fursian.0

Congrats on your sobriety. Im in a similar situation. Went to rehab 3 times over the last couple of years for alcohol and pills, but mainly alcohol. Its been a long hard road to recovery, but Im finally clean and sober and relearning how to live life again without the use of substances. Unfortunately, sobriety came with allot of weight gain fast for me. Now im trying to get my health back on track and get back down to my goal weight slowly but surely. Its nice to know that there's people out there that have or are currently going through a path similar to mine. Im open to gaining insights, tips, motivation, and more through this community and getting to know others. Feel free to friend me or reach out and we can help each other!2

Seven years is amazing, that's so far in the future for me. That is very encouraging. Thanks for sharing that, I really appreciate it.0 -

We're definately not alone. I've received support from so many people and sources. I know you will receive and deserve as much support as you need. I would really appreciate being friends with you on here. The more support people can get in recovery the better.
One of the many things I'm learning in recovery is to be open about what I'm going through. I thank my therapist for helping me to able to begin doing that. It wasn't easy to admit I had lost control.
Keep posting please. I'll send you an invite to be friends. Thanks.0 -
Thanks for the responses. I have been enjoying the Fitness portion of the app, and I do want to get better about posting. Anyone is invited to offer insights or share their stories here. I would greatly appreciate any words.
A bit more about me. I drank regularly, and at many times heavily, for over 30 years. In 2022 I lost my Dad and then my Mom. Both of them lived on the other side of the country so I didn't get to see them as much as I would have liked prior to their passing. Anyway, I really spiraled out of control after that. Last May I ended up in ICU. While I was there I ended up detoxing. I don't remember parts of my stay, I guess I went into an alcohol psychosis which lasted 24 hours. I left the hospital on May 13th, went home and drank. That was the last day I drank. I've been sober since May 14th 2024.
I know we all have our own unique stories. I appreciate you all for letting start to share some of my story and please feel free to share as little or as much of your own story as you feel comfortable with.
Until next time. Be well.0
