@SurferGirl1982 looking forward to your 7pm post!
@chicbuc I'm struggling a bit too, but am expecting to go AF tonight, we can do this.
To all of you who have great streaks going, thank you for the inspiration.
@globalhiker nice job staying AF at the bar!

@SparkSpringtime69 Stay tuned! *LOL* I hope you can get another AF day today! @chicbuc How are you doing with your alcohol plans today? I hope we all can have an AF day today 🙂
I was expecting to be feeling much worse today (from past experiences). But, so far, I've been feeling pretty good. I imagine in a few days that I'll be able to start adding in some exercise. That would be great. I haven't been able to exercise in a while.5 -

I transitioned into sleeping quite well after the first of the year. Last night was horrible. My stomach was a little upset from all the junk + alcohol and I couldn't settle my brain. If there was anything to think about, it surely crossed my mind.
Making today a much better day. Already been to the gym: cardio, ST and stretching. Ran a couple of errands then came home and made a fruit/veggie smoothie. Dinner will be chicken and veggies. Lots of water today and a good night's sleep!!

@itladyee you are having a great January. And it sounds like a great day as you get back on track! Laughed at your quote “if there was anything to think about, it surely crossed my mind!” Been there!

Same! That's one way to put it
I'm home and eating some rotisserie chicken for dinner and drinking my sparkling water. Doing OK, @SurferGirl1982 and @SparkSpringtime69 I'll check in later to see if you were both successful today.10 -
Woohoo! I finally got my first AF day 😀 I was beginning to think I would never be able to do it. I looked at my 2024 calendar and my last AF day was August 29th, 2024. What's sad is that I counted the number of AF days that I had in 2024. I only had 46 AF days all year.14

@SurferGirl1982 SO GOOD! Really happy to hear that you made day 1 — AND are doing okay….so glad you checked in here. You are rewriting your story! 💕7
-
@SurferGirl1982 Keep going! Remember why you want to do this. Think of all the health benefits you will reap. Think of all the money you will save. Whatever your reasons, just keep them in mind!9
-
@SurferGirl1982 That's great! Keep in mind that 2024 is the past - @michieb125 is right, you are rewriting your story.
@SunnyDays930 thank you for the reminder, health and money, and I would add pride in the accomplishment.7 -

Yay!! So proud of you @surfergirl1982! Keep that list handy today and keep busy!
@SparkSpringtime69 You got your AF day also! Go you!
Now let's all go for our second in a row. Time to streak!4 -

I’m upside down, but it’ll change starting today. Slowing down now that the birthday is over. Party was fantastic and hubby took me to dinner last night on my actual birthday. Still 2 potential birthday dinners to go with my parents and a good friend who couldn’t make it because of the weather. Thank you for all the birthday wishes everyone!
@SurferGirl1982 I’m so happy for you! Keep it up today! I with you 100%!4 -
@tmbg1 and @itladyee i love your stats! Woo hoo! Congrats to @MissMay and @globalhiker for those long streaks. And everyone else out there who I missed.
For those who are still white knuckling with varying degrees of success, the struggle is real, and I totally empathize with you! I’m still going through it.
@SurferGirl1982 hearty congratulations on your AF day yesterday! I’m so proud of and happy for you! I wish there was a “love” button on here instead of just “like”. I hope you continue to feel good, but as everyone else said, take medical action if you have any withdrawal symptoms again.
@globalhiker what a huge accomplishment to sit at the bar and not have a drink. I imagine the bartenders are used to non-drinkers at the bar by now. As long as you tip really well, they just don’t care! Haha!
I had a glass of wine last night-came home early from work, hubby cooking dinner, and I wanted to “celebrate”. I think next time I need to start with an AF drink to “celebrate”, and if I still want wine, have a glass then. I’m sure the impulse would have passed. Well, by remaining AF tonight and tomorrow, I’ll have 7 AF days to my 8A days, which is a gigantic win for me!!
Hope everyone has a great day.6 -
@SurferGirl1982 WAY TO GO!!! I too am behind you 100%. This is the best decision you'll ever make. The whiskey devil can put up a mean and sneaky fight but you are able to win the game and take your self control back. There is a bright, wonderful life on the other side.
Definitely watch your BP, heart rate etc and good you have your husband there to support you. Lots of warm liquids helped me. Reading material and movies and snacks. Avoid all stress and stressful people. Nap a lot. Lots of self care.
4 months and 13 AF days done over here. Every day worth it.7 -

We are at mid month and things have really started to happen in here. Back in 2018 I actually posted my first comment in this discussion the third week of January. There is no such thing as getting in here to late in the month. Great successes happen everyday. As you all have proven.
Make TODAY a goal crusher.9 -
@Womona a big shout out to you on your gigantic win!5
-
@surfergirl1982 ~YOU DID IT!!! Congratulations.... A major step, you got this... Leave the past behind, focus only on what's in front of you!!!
@sparkspringtime69 ~ Kudos to you as well.
@chicbuc ~ keep on keepin' on! Hoping that sparkling water did the trick!
@nonnieDoiron ~ so glad you enjoyed your birthday party and dinner with Hubby too!!! You deserve it!!!
@michieb125 ~ 8? Do I hear 9 days AF? You are doing well with making great substitutions to keep you AF. Keep it up!
@tmbg1 - Look at you!!! Nice progress.
@Sunnydays930 ~ it's interesting that when I scale back on alcohol, my thirst for water increases exponentially! Still working on the scale portion to read closer to "hydration"... can't get that needle to move!
@Globalhiker ~ 4 months and 13 AF days done over here!!! Well done my friend!
@MissMay ~ Way to go, MissMay. Let the streak continue!!! I understand that "quitting" is not you long-term goal but your LESS is looking really good right now!!!
@womona ~ It's a good idea to start with an AF drink and then see if the desire persists. You are doing well this month!
@tobinross~ 14 days??? Tell me yes! I know you did it!
What a great group with great success stories to tell! As @womona said... the struggle is very REAL, and having success (self-defined) should be acknowledged and rewarded! My month has not looked anything remotely close to this since last January!! I'm excited to continue the trend!
To all else not mentioned.... continue the journey and keep us updated along the way! You are worth it!

Hello Tuesday LA friends!
Current Stats:
AF - 8
A - 5
LA - 1 (2 Prosecco)
Currently at 8 out of 14 days AF! I’ve exceeded Decembers stats which wasn’t hard to do and I am feeling so much more confident and in control.
What’s working: I’m creating weekly targets on Sunday nights based upon scenarios and have met all targets but one day. But, my tracker shows I’ve had 15 LESS drinks this month so far compared to last. 😲.
Wow, that really puts things in perspective!
Off to the gym now, let’s all make it a great day.6 -

Thank you everyone! Day 1 down...starting Day 2. I have no desire to drink today. I'm already feeling better! I am rewriting my own story!
There's too many congratulations to reply to everyone. @globalhiker I did check my BP this morning. It was slightly elevated, but still in the safe range. I didn't drink any coconut water yesterday (it's not habit yet, so I forgot). I drank an 11.2 oz carton after taking my BP. There's no sugar added and it contains potassium, magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus. All the electrolytes that help regulate BP, heart beat, etc. I'm going to drink one or two a day. They are only 60 calories.
Again, thanks to everyone!

Nice work! I think one of my favorite things about goin AF is that the quality of sleep gets better, and better and better! I look forward to it like a treat. There are a million reasons, but great sleep is BIG.
Keep keeping on SurferGirl

Mine too!! My dreams become vivid so I know I'm getting some REM sleep, and I wake up feeling refreshed!6 -
Thanks @longrun22 I actually did sleep really well last night except I drank so much water (just filtered) and a few glasses of unsweetened iced tea yesterday that I woke up at least four times to pee. But, I was able to go right back to sleep. Just before I woke up I had a really weird dream...not real bad, but not real fun either. I guess weird dreams are usual when you first stop drinking. I imagine day after day my sleep will get better.
The funny thing is that yesterday morning I weighed myself. I weighed exactly the same as I did on January 1st. When I weighed myself this morning, I was down 2.6 lbs. I guess drinking all that of water and peeing all night flushes you out 🤔8 -

@chicbuc I agree...I'm just getting started, but I already felt like I got a better nights sleep. Definitely something to look forward to! With drinking, I would wake up sometimes at 2am or 4am. At times, I couldn't get back to sleep, so I would get up and mix a drink.
I mentioned that yesterday I drank a whole lot of water and iced tea. Well, I was drinking a lot of tea and sparking water before, except there was whiskey mixed in with the tea or water *LOL*
I really do feel so much better today. Tomorrow I already have some errands planned. In the last couple of months, I hadn't been getting out much.

@SurferGirl1982 WTG!
I agree about the dreaming - on A nights I tend to sleep through the night, but don't remember any dreams in the morning. During AF nights, I tend to wake up frequently but my dreams are very vivid and I can remember at least one or two in the morning.
Also with AF, definitely feel like I got a better night's sleep even with the frequent wake-ups.8
