Heather - so sorry for your son. That is a lot. Poor Bea, it’s awful when they learn these things at such a young age.

Machka - Congratulations on your new granddaughter.

Lisa - I don’t think I would get the anger out in one phone call either. I’m sorry for your daughter and grandchildren.

Rita - it’s good you were able to see a doctor today.

Vicki. -Hope hubby has a successful surgery tomorrow.

Not a lot to say tonight, a decent day at work.

Our cats get in the bed with us. Really, if I get up during the night to go to the bathroom, I have to be careful where I put my feet when I get back in bed.

Our cats take turns sleeping in the bed with us. At least a few like to sleep up under our chins. Bad part is I have two that like to do that with me and the boy does NOT like the girl at all so they fight.

Just ate a late dinner because I was out walking with my friends. 3rd walk of the day for a total of 20,000 steps!!! Dinner is turkey, stuffing and broccoli. May have a little dessert. Was busy today so didn't eat much- just at 750cal for the day and earned 950 for exercise so I think I will have something else.

Q: What do you call a therapist for cyclists?

    A: A cycologist.

If you ride your bike twice in one day, is that recycling?

My granny started cycling at 97 years old. She has been doing ten miles per day.
And now we don’t know where the heck she is!

Thank you for the congratulations on our second granddaughter!! :)

We will be going to see both granddaughters as soon as the family is ready. They'll let us know. As with the first, they prefer to get some of the vaccinations done and spend some time together as their little family without the larger group of family and friends. Also, our family is a bit complicated. My husband is the blood grandfather, but I'm the "evil stepmother" (haha) so at this point, it's best I not be there when certain others are there. I'm patient and wait my turn. :)

Our granddaughters (and of course, their parents) live quite close to us now. We're at sea level and they're up the hill. :)

As for her name ... they haven't decided yet. Until just the other day, they did not know if they were having a boy or a girl. They opted not to find out.

They took their time with our first granddaughter and eventually chose something vintage ... more popular in the late 1800s/early 1900s.

I expect it will be a little while before they choose a name, and I am curious what direction they'll go with our second granddaughter.

MO – HIIT – High Intensity Interval Training. I recover for 20 seconds and sprint for 10. I think you are supposed to do 10 and 10, but I don’t. Like on the elliptical, when I’m sprinting I may be going 160 steps, and when I’m recovering I may be going 90. I just find that the elliptical adapts to changes in speed quicker than the treadmill. Jane Fonda I am certainly not. I am the most inflexible person on the planet. Always have been. Ever since I turned 65, this pooch doesn’t seem to go away. My weight really hasn’t changed (just gone up a bit) but the pooch! You are one in a million with all you do. HIIT can even be something as simple as “walk to one tree, run/jog to the next tree, walk to the next tree” and so on.

M – 20 SECONDS??? I’d have a hard time keeping track of the time.

I've looked over a lot of sites on HIIT, and how to do it, and there's a commonality between them.

The intensity suggested is 80% - 95% of your maximum heart rate and higher. That's why it's good to have a heart rate monitor.

To calculate your maximum heart rate, you could use 220-age, but I've never found that to be accurate for me. For me, that would be only 163, which I can hit going up a hill.

This method seems to be more accurate: HRmax = 206.9 – (0.67 x age). For me, that's 169 which is closer to my max.

Back a number of years ago, I used the field trial method and found that my max HR was 190. Given that max HR can drop a bit over the years, I'm guessing I might be down to about 180 now.

So ... 80% of my max is 144 and 90% of my max is 162.

"Intensity is probably where the biggest mistake is made with HIIT training. If you want to learn how to do HIIT correctly and get substantial results, this will be the key.

The biggest thing to know about intensity is that you must be going as close to all-out as you can. It’s not called high intensity for nothing."

    Quoted from: https://www.getfitwithcedar.com/how-to-perform-hiit-correctly/

The ratio of work-to-rest during HIIT is a highly debated topic. That’s because research is very divided on what’s best.

However, it appears to be most agreed upon that a work interval of about 20 seconds is a good starting place. I’d add though, if you’re on a treadmill or another form of cardio that takes a few seconds to ramp up, aim for closer to 30 seconds. Otherwise, you only perform about 10 seconds at maximum intensity.

Your rest should be longer than your work interval. A good place to start is performing an active recovery for twice as long as your work interval. For example, if you sprint all out on the treadmill for 30 seconds, perform 60 seconds of light jogging to recover.

As for keeping track of time, a partner can help.

Another option is to set a timer to beep or to have a clock with that shows seconds near at hand. Admittedly, when your eyes glaze over red, time is hard to see.
