Tracey - I think I'm just incapable of staying quiet about BS. If it's in my mind, it's out my mouth (or typing fingers). Top reason why I never went into politics. Thank you very much for the compliment, and I definitely take it as one. I do wish it was instant and not after the fact, though...🤔 Ah well.

Mo - Saw you were due for some snow. 😑 Stay inside! Have things delivered! Stay safe! Southerners, including Mississippians, do NOT know how to drive in snow!

I know that's obvious, but seriously, it's hard to stay out of people's way that genuinely are dangerous in snow, as they don't know that 99% of it is simply "GO SLOW." The only exception is going UPhill. Any of y'all that are about to get slapped by the snow storm making its way across the South, please stay safe. Just not worth risking your life.

Not a lot going on this side of the Mississippi River, as far as I know, whether it's weather or not. We won't even make it up to freezing today, but supposed to start warming tomorrow. Right now it's back in the single digits, at 8 degrees (-13C). Time to put my socks on. Will be my 14th day in a row of exercise when I'm done with the elliptical. Pleased with myself. Haven't moved consistently in so long...

Talked to Corey, and I may do an early quick run into town. I want to return some curtain rods to Walmart that I didn't need in the end, and Corey needs big band-aids for work. Hate being cold, but as my Alaskan husband noted, once it gets below freezing, you're cold, whether it's 10 below or 20 below. I will get cabin fever if I never leave the house. Still thinking about it, while me and my gut do our early morning do-si-do.

    Love y'all,
    Lisa in AR

Good job on the elliptical! I just go on the treadmills, the elliptical freaks me out. I see some people that use it, and it looks like they're going backwards, and others that are definitely going forward. There's one guy that looks like he's mountain climbing on the thing. Sort of a hip thrust with each stride. 🙄😳
I shall put on music, put in my buds and read my vampire romance on my tablet and calmly walk.😂

:) Yesterday I filled out one online form that included attaching a scanned copy of Jake's death certificate. I won't know for awhile if I did it right and accomplished what was required. I also went online to find where to dispose of all the medications. I'll go look for the place today while I'm out to go to the library.

:)Rebecca, When I owned a treadmill it was set up facing the TV so I could walk and watch a favourite show that I'd recorded. I tried the elliptical once and hated it. Now that I walk outside, I have headphones and listen to a podcast, audio book, or favourite music.

Re: The elliptical - the best part for me is no impact, but I'm still doing a weight-bearing exercise. Your feet stay flat and never lift up and pound down as they do with the treadmill. My wrecked knees can handle the elliptical movements much better than walking outside or on a treadmill. The next best part is that I'm the one moving the machine - I've done a lot of treadmill work, but find myself a little leery of a machine that's pushing my feet. I can get extremely clumsy, and my dizziness does not go well with machine-driven motions. The other reason I like it is that four points of my body are on the machine at all times - both hands and both feet. Keeps me safe if I wobble.

Edit to add - The other reason I loved the elliptical over these years is because at 300 pounds, or at any weight, in the end, I can RUN on an elliptical. Because there's no pounding, you can work at speed, no matter how much you weigh. I was always one of the fit fat, and the elliptical kept me as healthy as I could be. Unfortunately, you can't outrun a bad diet. I know. I tried.

Also, Rebecca - that guy probably was going backwards. You can (and I do) move your feet backwards or forwards, and I change up every two or three minutes on the machine. The backward stride works your gluteus maximus just a little harder. Regarding the guy looking like he's climbing, you can extend the stride as far as you want on a gym-level machine, which approximates climbing hills at the longest stretch.

All that said, the cheap ones or cheapER onces can be absolutely awful. If you can't stand up straight, especially if the angle of the pedals pitches you forward, you can really hurt yourself. The angle of your hands matters, too. If you're standing up straight when it's at its default stride level, and your hands can rest on the handholds without pushing or holding you up, it's a better machine. If you move your feet and the machine leans side to side, don't ever get on it.

And all of those things should be taken with a great grain of salt, because what matters is what YOU will do. And even more importantly, what you will KEEP doing. That's not for one person in particular, it's the reminder for me, mostly.

Probably more than anyone wanted to know - Did I mention that I managed a gym in Illinois right after I lost the 166 pounds from the gastric bypass? 😜

Time to get on said elliptical and get that bit done. Music's already playing...

    Later, babies,

Good Morning Friends...Watched a good interview given by Mathew Walker the author of Why We Sleep. Left with a new resolve to improve my sleep.

What I am doing right is using the breathe right strips and taping in the middle of my mouth to encourage breathing through my nose...Black out curtains.

Working on getting to bed earlier and no caffeine past 11-12 this includes chocolate...

One comment he made is that if you are losing weight and not getting the proper sleep it can unfortunately cause you to lose muscle rather than fat. He didn't say it but it made me think that is why after losing weight it is often regained.

He went on to say with proper sleep it can help prevent and or improve Alzheimer's, Type two diabetes, among other chronic diseases.

He did emphasize that an occasional bad night sleep or indulging with friends with a drink is not the problem. It is when it becomes chronic that it is important to take steps to improve.

He was not in favor of long term use of sleep aids because they often do not address the underlying problems.

I put his book Why We Sleep on reserve from the library.

I am finding that if I understand the whys of the importance of changing my habits it makes it easier for me to improve my health regime.

Been feeling tired today. I think it's a UTI on the brew, but I haven't tested yet.

John is jealous of this group, and we used to have arguments about it. He is also jealous of the people I follow online. It really annoys me when he belittles my interests. Most of the time I don't talk about them, but I feel it is such a huge part of my life that it would be dishonest not to mention them from time to time. He knows I am , these days, much more interested in women than men, so he doesn't joke about 'boyfriends'. I must say, it's a rare man who captures my interest. Any men I like are usually gay. I am very attached to my women friends, but he doesn't mind them quite as much as the online ones. ;)

His sister will be phoning him tonight. We haven't spoken in ages. Just life being busy.

    Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

My husband used to nag me that the friends online on Facebook or in this group weren't "real" and that would annoy me. It belittled my emotions and feelings in my opinion. Now, I show him the photos (like Pips new rig) or (Allie's cute grandkids) and I do speak to him about your lives. I used to be bummed that I would grow old and not ever get my "tribe of supportive wise women". Well now, I truly believe I have gotten it with you all in my lives.👍🏼💖🙏

I always felt like I was using the old fashioned wide snowshoes when I used an elliptical machine and to feel somewhat comfortable, I had to place my feet on the inner sides of the foot beds which didn't feel right either.

Meatloaf in the oven for Corey for lunches and leftovers... Shepherd's pie going in the oven, also with lots of green beans for Corey. I'll eat a bit of the mashed, probably . I'm back to not liking meat again - not good for someone who just got their iron back in line, and won't eat vegetables. Still thinking 🤔.

has anyone else had a problem with MFP not tracking exercise right. I walked the dog for an hour and have been walking around shopping all day and I get a " *You've earned 1 extra calorie from exercise today "
I am at 10,750 steps and they gave me a 1.

This is the third time, maybe more, in the past week or so that I have noticed it.
Show on the MFP app my steps/zone minutes, etc

    Good morning ladies!

Funny, I remember when DH and I were either dating or first married, I caught him ogling some gal who was definitely "hot". I broke his spell by commenting something like. "Isn't that gal beautiful? Her hair is so pretty and I love that outfit she's wearing." He had a confused look on his face, lol. I still laugh when I think about it.

Had to laugh about that...My husband tells people that I would get madder at him for not recycling properly than if he looks at another woman. And it's true.

If no meat or vegetables ... what's left to eat? That removes pretty much everything from the list!
