On vacation I had a medical emergency. I'm dealing with that now and it is not something I anticipated. I had a good and motivating couple of weeks lifting weights and running. All stop.
My future is this with parts and pieces failing and falling off....and hopefully a bunch more good stuff too. I'm going to keep following along, and as soon as I get some clearance I'll be starting back up again.
In the meantime, I want to get this out publicly for some accountability. I'm dropping the weight. I'm logging here in MFP.
I dropped 10-15 lbs last year and that simply is not good enough. I think 52lbs is smarter, about 1 lbs/week. Follow my food diary, or anything else you think would help me stay on track and be accountable.
Ya'll are the best.9 -

Hang in there, Chris!1 -
You are doing great with this weather @Teresa502 . I, too, am hoping this is the worst of it. 35F felt rather pleasant this afternoon.
Nice running @SummerSkier . Sorry about the bruise on your foot. And, yes, lesson learned for you, I think. We have piliated woodpeckers here too. They are so big. It's funny that they can be chased away by smaller birds. As for the tracker, I haven't been able to get it to work for me for a couple of years...at all. It started with having to start from scratch every time and now I just keeps reloading the tickers and I can't pick one. I quit trying.
Sorry to hear about the medical emergency @chris_in_cal . I hope whatever it was, you heal from quickly...and I really hope it wasn't a part falling off. Now that we don't have the newsfeed, how would I go about following your food diary - if that is going to help you lose. I never made mine public because I am NOT one to eat the best foods and didn't want to be a bad influence on anyone.3 -

@Teresa502 yea just when I get used to the tropics it's time to go home. I'm getting a bit envious of the colder temps!
@chris_in_cal sucks to hear that. Get well soon. I joined a BLC challenge here on MFP. Biggest Looser Challenge. Helps to stay accountable. I'm aiming for a 20-25 lb loss this year. So far, I've dropped 35lbs and got my diabetes somewhat under control. Good luck.
@SummerSkier the moment I have something really irritable I stop to have it fixed. Some of the longer distances won't let me tough it out. Woodpeckers are cute.
@quilteryoyo work is such a double edged sword....
I got a hot muggy 8k in this morning. New route. Found a tower for my elevation training 🤣 this place is soooo flat. Whilst climbing over a guardrail because I took a shortcut, I managed to gently land on my ar$e, might see the blip on strava. Just a bruised ego there but where did the nimbleness go? 🤔🙄
Early morning light
Look, a bridge!

Hi everyone,
Yesterday I didn't get around to posting. I did a tempo run on the treadmill, with 30 minutes a little slower than 5K pace. It was a hard workout. I ended up running 12.5km.
Today, I decided to get outside again. It is above freezing now, so even though I am still coughing, I thought it wouldn't be sooooo bad for me. I was still a bit tired from yesterday, so I ran at an easy pace and got in 13.2km. It was very nice to have a change of scenery
223.2/280km for January.
@WarmJellyfish Nice pictures! It makes me want to go there too , to try the stinky fruit (and lots of mangoes), get into the jungle, and admire the architecture.
@chris_in_cal All the best for you!!!6 -
@WarmJellyfish I'm glad you fall wasn't anything major. That looks like a killer elevation workout. You are doing great with the exercise...much better than you were expecting before you left. Lovely pictures.
Nice longer run @tarun_yadavA . Hope it didn't aggravate the foot.
Great running @Laurz9191 . Glad you were able to get outside this morning.3 -

Yesterday I went to my local park after work and ran on the trail. It was still snow covered in places. I ran a loop through town first. The temp was 30F but there was a cold wind blowing and I wanted to enjoy the sun before heading into the woods.
@chris_in_cal – Hope you are on the mend and heal quickly.
Lol @WarmJellyfish glad the ego was the only thing you hurt!
@quilteryoyo – It felt balmy walking into the office today at 25F!

Monthly Goal: 12x
Jan total: 9x
Weather is sloooowly improving, so I'm hoping to not have as many of the 1 mile TM runs. I'm not sure I will get 3 strength training sessions in next week though. It would have to be on back-to-back days since Monday is out unless I can get it in after work or over lunch. That is the day I take my Jeep in for repair from the deer damage...YAY!!chris_in_cal wrote: »Thanks for the well wishes everyone.

Great run yesterday @Teresa502 . It's amazing how good 35F, or 25F, and feel after a week at 10F. LOL
@rusgolden I hope you can get out for some runs soon. It's warming up here too. I also hope your jeep repair isn't too extensive.
@chris_in_cal Glad you aren't going to be away from running for too long.4 -

I didn't have to work today, but haven't felt the best. Sinus drainage and just a little blah. I did an easy treadmill session, giving myself permission to walk only, but the slow running felt okay and I've actually felt a bit better since I ran. The avg pace for the 2.50 miles was 13:00 min. Avg HR was 126 with a max of 148 bpm.
I felt like a Jeff Foxworthy - ish running statement could have applied to me today: You might be a runner if the only time you get out of your pajamas is to go for a run.8 -
Just returning to running after 20 yrs and gaining 80 lbs or so over that time. My "running" these days consist of brisk walking to light jogging on the treadmill. Started running on 1/1/2025 with the goal of dropping the 80 lbs (aiming for 1-2 lbs/week).10 -

I am posting two runs. Thursday the run started out pretty good, but I was a little over 4 miles in and my watch stopped. I turned on zombies run to track my distance and added it to my distance on garmin so I think I ran 6.4 miles. Today I ran 4 miles. I didn't have any trouble with my watch. It was a little less cold than earlier in the week so hopefully the worst of the cold weather is behind us.
@Chris_ in_ calif hope you are feeling better soon.
@warmjellyfish Love the photos.
@summerskier A couple of weeks ago I saw 2 different woodpeckers in my backyard. I often hear them, but they can be tough to spot.

Morning all
Got in 5.75M at 09"49.
Have a lovely weekend all ☺️9 -
It has been ages since I logged anything in the group. I have done an extra 2 easy runs but missed a few others from my training plan. My right knee doesn't seem to like the cold (I have changed shoes but no luck)
Today for the first time I volunteered at my local parkrun. I do really appreciate every volunteers giving up their Saturday mornings so I can run so I figured it was time to do it too. I enjoyed giving out the tokens, everyone was very friendly (but my feet and fingers got very cold!)
4/1 5.1km parkrun (6.54/km pace)
6/1 1.4km benchmark run
8/1 6.5km easy run (7:51/km pace)
12/1 6.45km time trial run (7:20/km pace)
13/1 5.54km tempo run (7:32/km pace)
15/1 6.47km steady state run (7:12/km pace)
17/1 5km easy run (7:53/km pace)
24/1 5km easy run (7:50/km pace)
Goal for January 60 km
41.46 km done, 18.54 still to run I am over halfway
Walk to date: 61.6 km9 -
Hang in there @chris_in_cal! I know you’ll be back at it next week. You got this.
@WarmJellyfish Thanks for posting all the Singapore pics! The wild swings from cold to hot and humid and back are tough to adjust to.
Welcome @brnlow! Looks like you’ve been doing great this month. Keep it up!
@SummerSkier I also hate stopping to fix things once I’m going. IDK why I do that. I find myself saying to myself: It’s just a run. I’m not competing in the Olympics here. Just stop and fix the shoe!!5 -

Short run after work yesterday. I am struggling still to get out after work, but I’m always glad I did it after a few minutes. I went to the neighborhood trail today. We have had a couple of days of sunshine so the snow has all melted and the trail had time to dry out a bit. Also went to Pilates a couple days ago.
I skipped a run earlier this week because I just couldn’t motivate myself to do it. I went for a walk with my husband instead. It was an 8-ish mile speed workout and I just wasn’t in the mood. Problem is that was really the only day this week I was going to have time to do it. I knew that and still couldn’t be bothered. In the past I have always been really good about sticking to training plans but this one is tough for me. Idk if it’s a general lack of desire to do the harder effort runs or if I don’t really like this plan. Maybe a bit of both.
My fitness has improved and Garmin is estimating my HM time at 2:04:23 now. I know it’s just an estimate but even when not using a Garmin training plan I have seen the estimates to be decent in the past. Unfortunately that means I’m not where I need to be to race for a new PR in just a few weeks. I have a race scheduled in March and that might be enough time to get there so I am going to adjust my goal race and think a little on how I want to organize my training between now and then. I may keep the bones of my Garmin plan and switch out 1 run for a tempo run a la Hansons. That probably also means tweaking my Garmin long runs. This week it has me doing 14 miles. No, I am not doing that. That is overkill for a HM plan and I am doing a HM next weekend with a friend of mine so I will be adjusting to a shorter run this weekend. By the time I adjust the long runs and switch out for a tempo run, I probably should just sit down with the Hanson’s plan and figure out what to cut to make it fit into my week. Idk. I’ll think on that this weekend.8 -
Welcome @brnlow . Sounds like you have a great plan. Slow and steady.
Nice running @kgirlhart . Sorry about the Garmin issues though. I hope it was a one time glitch.
You are doing great @Emilienewme . It was very nice of you to volunteer for your Park Run. I hope the knee issue is just from the cold and not anything more sinister.
@martaindale I hope you can figure out a plan that works for you and keeps you motivated.

Milestone distance run today for me 13.5 miles. Not sure why but I guess it felt nice out in the 40's and I was dressed well for it so I just kept going. Never really thought i would run further than 10 or 11 at a time but the half called to me today altho I was struggling to remember the exact distance - had to think marathon is 26.6 so half of that....😂😏😳🤪 Anyway, I hope I can walk later - will be stretching and doing a walk later today.

I'm still taking the meds to try to fight off this cold, or whatever it is. I feel pretty good today, but don't have a ton of energy. Decided to skip the long run and let my body use that energy for healing. The 2.50 miles I ran at an avg pace of 13:04 min/mile. Avg HR was 120 with a max of 140 bpm.8 -
Well it's time to head home. My distance today today is just 1km wandering around the airport. For those eyeing going Singapore in the future, allow sometime to check out the airport. Meanwhile I have a 15hr flight and airline food, ahead, going back is shorter! Woot. Good running all and good luck to those doing races.

I had to work this morning so couldn't get my run in first thing. It's harder for me to get going later in the day. Once I got going it was a good run. Knee got a little tingly around mile 8. I stopped and stretched and that helped.7 -
I wasn't able to get out for my long run early this morning, but I was able to get it just before noon. There was nearly a 100 ft elevation gain from the park to the subdivision I was going to run, so I chose to walk the 0.7 miles. The 7.65 mile run was also fairly hilly with almost 500 ft of elevation gain. I had a bit of a niggle in my left calf several times, so I didn't push the pace and did RWR intervals. Could have been spasms or cramps since my water intake hasn't been great the past few days. I just didn't want to take a chance on pulling a muscle. It hasn't been bothering me at all since my run, so hopefully it's good to go. Tomorrow I'm running with my blind runner friend, so my pace will be slower as well.
Have a great Sunday!6 -

It was really good running weather today, so I decided to do my long run today instead of tomorrow. I ran 10 miles. It was sunny and 57°F feels like 45° at the start and 62°F feels like 59° at the end. It was a little more windy than I like, but not too bad and much better than the cloudy and 47°F feels like 32° that is expected tomorrow. It was so nice to be able to run in shorts and a t-shirt.
Congrats on your 13.5 @SummerSkier! It was a great day for it!

Never really thought i would run further than 10 or 11 at a time but the half called to me today altho I was struggling to remember the exact distance - had to think marathon is 26.6 so half of that....😂😏😳🤪 Anyway, I hope I can walk later - will be stretching and doing a walk later today.
@SummerSkier amazing! Well done!!!!!!4
