I’m going to tell a story about when I am in my 20’s, I hope it makes you laugh. When in my 20’s my father had a band that used to play in strip clubs among other places. Once in a while (drinking was at 18 back then) I went with my mother to watch my dad play, not my thing really, but mom wanted the company. Once the MC called us a ‘mother daughter team’ to the patrons’ delight and my embarrassment. So one time, my sister who turned old enough and I took my mom to that same strip club after it went to DJ’s rather than live bands to an all male show. We had the best time and my mom commented on how the men ‘were much better dancers and showmen than the women’. This was not Chip and Dale dancers but at the time when they first started. It was the one and only time I went to a show like that, but agreed with mom that they put on a much better show than the women. My mom was a great sport about stuff like this. When Playgirl first came out, I was a senior in high school and 18 and bought one of these for my mom. She got a big kick out of it. I know, I had a weird family dynamic when growing up…. Glad that part of my life is and has been over for about 40 years now. 🤪
With that, here is the thought for today:
What do you call a Zen master who is in charge of snacks?
A Chipmunk!!
Love you ladies! I can be honest with you all and you don’t judge, simply support, what we all need!

Rebecca - how neat that you've met a fellow singer and walking buddy to boot, plus a new gal to have lunch with. The stars lined up wonderfully for you!
Lisa - loved Corey's response. He absolutely deserves coffee in bed. Kindness and consideration go a long way in keeping a marriage happy and partners content.
Kay - glad that got straightened out. Unanticipated financial/banking problems put me into panic mode.
Tina - how are you doing? Hope the fires are getting under control.
Barbie - lucky save for your friend's cellphone. I lost a box of donuts once I put on top of my car when I was unlocking my car and intent on getting home. Some crows got lucky that day. That soup sounds delicious.
Pip - glad Kirby is feeling better!
Terri - so glad you didn't blow away. I think those hurricane force winds are terrifying.
Problems Walking - just me pondering -Something I've noticed over the past couple years is how many of us are developing foot, knee and hip problems which hinder our ability to walk a lot - at least as much as we were used to walking. I keep reading that walking a certain number of steps - maybe 6,000 or maybe 10,000, depending on the "expert" - helps with overall health, reduces possibility of dementia, lengthens life, improves mood, etc.
I'm guessing the inability to walk not only affects heart health and blood sugar management, but walking is just so basic to being human. When we can't walk without pain, I think we're more prone to depression. Maybe that's what really takes a toll on our health, not just the physical side.
I did a shopping run yesterday plus was able to get several "house walks" in, and work a bit outside since the afternoon was warm and sunny. Nearly 10,000 steps when I normally average 6000-7000. I paid a price - my troubling left forefoot was slightly swollen and achy when I went to bed. OK this morning.
As I've mentioned before, my mom started to slide into dementia when she could no longer walk much due to balance and foot problems. I realize something similar happened to my DH - because of his Peripheral Artery Disease and sore feet due to arthritis, it hurt to walk so he pretty much stopped - though DH's vascular surgeon encouraged walking as a means to help his PAD. His memory loss showed up within a few years after he stopped. Causation or correlation?
Enough on that. 15-minute house walk coming up.
22F this morning, has warmed to 30 already.
Hope you ladies are thawing out.

Happy Saturday from COLD Nebraska. It is above zero. Next week to be in the 50's and back to cold the next week.
Rebecca--The new ear rings are pretty. I took mine out after I stopped working and should see about putting some in.
Annie--with everything you are doing great. One day at a time.
Machka--Sorry to hear about Rowan's ankle. I know we had to wait a month for DH's hip surgery. Knew it was coming but the waiting was hard.
Barbie--thinking of you. Lucky about the phone.
Rita--Good luck finding a place you can call home.
Allie--cute haircut. Sorry about your friend. I agree you never know. A friend of DH came home Sunday from shopping with his mom and found his dad had passed away sitting in his chair.
Went to interview yesterday. Thought it was going really well and something I could do and enjoy. It was for a bus company. They do school bus and county handi bus. He said they want to cross train all the employees to drive the buses to fill in when they are short. I do not want to drive a bus. I am not comfortable with that. So will see what happens.

Lanette I think there is definitely a link between ease of mobility and depression, dementia and longevity. My DH and DB both passed mere days after their legs totally gave out. It made a profound impression on me and fuels my desire to maintain mobility, posture and leg/hip strength.
Machka: I am in awe with how well you maintain your health and composure through so much work and caregiving.
It's snowing again. Wish I could send this moisture to Southern California where my good friends have cars packed and eyes glued to on their phones so they can get away at earliest sign of fire evacuation alerts. Has me surveying my home and musing "what would I grab?"
The cold last week caused a pipe to bust in the condo gym restroom so I haven't had access to exercise machines for over a week. That plus five delightful, but calorie rich birthday lunches has me cussing at the scale. Temporary setback. Will be getting back to routine this weekend.
Do any of you have Reynaud's? I've always had cold hands and feet but yesterday I had a shock seeing one finger had turned completely white. First time I've experienced that and Dr Google says its a sign of Reynauds. Appreciate any insights.
You ladies rock. Sending energy and light to all who need it. Stay well. We can do this.

A wonderful time was had by all. I forgot to put the Dijon mustard in the whisky sauce, but we just put it on separately.
Max thoroughly enjoyed himself and loved all the fun with the hats, bagpipe music, Haggis address, and the stabbing.
Lemon ice cream (homemade) went down well with gf ginger biscuits.
Dishwasher on, and relaxing with a whisky.
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxxx

You have hyper parathyroidism? That's what I had but they did the slit on the neck surgery and removed the offending parathyroid. They are supposed to be as big as a grain of rice, but after doing the dye test and scans they found the one not playing nice with the others. When the doctor removed it, it was as big as his thumb, the biggest he'd ever seen! I said, "do I get some reward or plaque for this achievement"?

Cute story! Your momma sounded like a fun mom. My husband used to get Playboy, and it was on the coffee table along with the monthly LEGO magazine, and history magazines. I would joke that our sons growing up have seen more nude people than most, so really no "girly magazines hiding under the bed" situations. My gift to them was a healthy self esteem, and positive body image, even as they got into their awkward phases, (Middle school etc) they remained upbeat, and attending the clothing optional resort helped with that.

I am taking them out every night, something I never did with my other earrings. I have the old earring on the wall with a pushpin, hoping to run across the other one day. Thinking of trying to make a sun catcher with my earrings left that I don't wear. Maybe I have one and Athena can have the other.
Driving a bus would definitely be outside my comfort zone!

Debbie is your MIL still behaving or has she reverted to her wicked ways?
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD
2025: Chose NOW: to move more than yesterday, fuel better than yesterday, open heart and mind before mouth.
MIL is behaving for the most part but still blaming dh for putting her in the care home. No, her doctors are the one that said she needed to be in the rehab and then said it would be best for her to be in the care home instead of in her own home. She has been in the care home a week now. Eats sometimes, refuses others, doesn't want to take her pills, etc. Just like she pulled with dh. He has had to be there more the past few days because they scheduled first visits with the new social worker, the physical therapist and occupational therapist and some one else, don't remember who that one was.
He has been either dropping me off at her home to take care of the dog while he sees her or I just go by myself and then I can stay as long or as short as I want. Glad I didn't have him drop me off this morning. PT person came 45 min late. I would have been stuck over at the house for well over 2 hrs. Chores at home have been neglected because I am trying to keep up with all the cat chores, dog chores, etc.
Tonight I finally told him he can take care of the dog by himself after he is done with his mom. I am staying home. I am so tired. Not sure why. I am sure the overcast weather is not helping. Don't think I will hit my 5 miles today.May get 3 or 3 1/2. That is ok. I hit it or more the past 11 days. over 40 miles this week and over 50 last week.
Now going to make me more tea, and catch up on here a bit.

Yes, to Reynaud's. It is shocking. I wear gloves a lot, use my heated steering wheel, and try to handle frozen foods sparingly. Sometimes I'm fine. Cold definitely can trigger it, but it doesn't always. Once it starts, it seems to happen a lot.

Lanette-I definitely think movement/exercise helps us in all ways. I have read in numerous places lately that for women 62-101, 7,500 is recommended. Key is consistency. Discovered that Dr. Google has information on such things. My foot is doing better with lesser steps. I have been doing mainly inside walks so far this month. I am icing foot for 20 minutes or so twice a day. The pain is not as bad as it was so maybe something is healing. Stretches, easy walking and not being a total couch potato!
Rita-I used to hang out in bars with my mom when I was a kid. It actually wasn't all the unusual then. Now Children Services has to check!
Lisa-very thoughtful answer from Corey.
Debbie-once your husband has connected with all the necessary folks he should probably back off daily visits )or at least keep them short) so can adjust. It's a tough transition for both of them, they have been doing that crazy dance for so long.
Kylia and Lisa-while I was reading about your strange Fitbit messages, my head got stuck on MFP and I thought,I haven't gotten any strange messages. I went to check my settings and realized I wouldn't get FitBit messages-I switched over to Apple Watch several years ago!
Lots of odds and ends today. Not everything I wanted get done. Check book balanced. Bills not due til later next week. Check on an order I made for Ohio State Championship shirts for kids. Placed three separate orders and had mailed to their houses. I never got confirmation email for my own order, but I saw it on website. Contacted company and they were three steps above useless initially. Had sons send me their emails, gave him numbers, he resent e-mails to everyone (I still haven't gotten mine),but looks like all is in order. That was close to 45 minutes.
Off to get a few more things done.
Take care all,

I've been looking at those and will definitely ask questions about it when we see a surgeon next week. Right now, he has the usual kind of basic walker, similar to this image.
While he is still in the pointed toe cast (prior to the surgery), I'll work from home.
After the surgery, they may put him into the same type of cast for a couple weeks ... and I'll see how he is. If he can use one of those kneeling scooters, I might be able to go to work a little bit.

Someone with a name that sounded fake paid a huge (more than we make in a month) Chase credit card bill with e-pay from our checking account. Of course, I discovered it when we were all snowed in. I had to wait a day for the roads to clear and the bank to open, go in person and sign a letter of dispute. They told me it might take up to 10 days to reverse the payment, but our money was pending by the time I got home and clearly in our account this morning. They told me that they didn’t think it was necessary for us to change our account at this time. Keep a close eye on it and if it happens again, then we will do the extreme thing. All of our retirement checks are automatically deposited, plus we automatically pay several bills as well. It will be a major pain if we have to do that.
Pt kicked my butt today, but I resisted the urge to take Tylenol. I’ve been pill free for 4 days. Life is good.
At the very least, please change your password to at least 12 characters with lower, and upper case letters, numbers, and at least 1 special character (!,&,$,-. and whatever your bank allows. Spaces are great but not many banks accept them in passwords). Since they payed by electronically, change the passwords to the bill companies that you pay automatically too. They should all be different and have the above format. I’ve know it’s a pain but better safe than sorry. 12 or more characters is almost impossible to break. Using a pass phrase like Machka recommended may be easier to remember. Not this one because it is common but something like 2BorNot2B!! (to be or not to be!!) Is a passphrase sample. Please do not use the example as it is a common passphrase.
RVRita in Roswell
They also recommend long passphrases with or without all the characters, numbers etc.
https://www.cyber.gov.au/learn-basics/explore-basics/passphrases
"Passphrases are made up of four or more random words making them longer than a traditional password."
They also recommend 14 characters or more.
One example the site above gives is 'purple duck potato boat'
And multi-factor authentication is a good idea too.

This will be a long process. I figure it will be 4-6 months before he's getting around a little bit, relatively comfortably, and a year before he's getting around fairly well.
Perhaps one of the things that helps is my past history with cycling ultra-distance events. I've done four events where the distance was 1200 km which we had to complete in 90 hours or less, including all breaks. The Paris-Brest-Paris was one ... where I met my husband! https://www.paris-brest-paris.org/en/home_/
If we went into those events thinking, "I have 1200 km to cycle", we'd probably turn the bicycle around and go back to bed.
Instead, we approach it like "eating an elephant". The first control on those events is usually about 75 km from the start. So we think about that. We've cycled 75 km many times before to the point where it's an easy ride. All we have to do is cycle 75 km. Then when we get to that control, it might be 80 km to the next one and again, that's what we need to focus on. We're going to do an 80 km ride. Over and over, one control at a time, until we finish.
So I look at this in a similar way. Our first step is getting to his surgery. There are a couple things we'll need to do on the way, so I'll deal with those.
I'm also very selfish. I will take time for myself and focus on my things.
Yesterday, after all that time at the hospital, I had a horrendous headache. We hadn't eaten in all that time, and had very little to drink either. They weren't sure if he'd be sent up for surgery yesterday or not, and of course, you can't eat and drink before surgery. So I made a list on the drive home. Get him into the house, make us something to eat and drink, get him into bed, then go to sleep myself. Fortunately, when I woke up, my headache was gone ... and I had the energy to tidy up around his chair and get his footstool set up with pillows, etc. before he woke up.
I'm also very fortunate to have an understanding workplace.
And now, I'm going to get ready to go for a bicycle ride! He's sleeping ... he has slept a lot since getting home from the hospital, which is really good. And I know he can get to his chair all right when he gets up. Plus I've modified my cycling plan to return home mid-ride to check on him.
One thing I do foresee as being an issue is boredom. He likes to do things out in the garden etc. So I may have to figure out some things he can do while sitting.

Kylia - I am a beekeeper and love raw local honey. It was huge in helping my allergies back in the day. I need your heated vest in my life. I have also made errors in logging over the years. I am always relieved to find them and see my numbers were better than I thought.
My husband and I are beekeepers too!
Our back garden ...

Machka - I hope your DH’s ankle heals fast.
Allie - can the bed be donated to a thrift shop or antique store?
Nice haircut.
Rita - I had to click twice to confirm I was a human this morning as well. The cookies thing is everyday.
Michele - my right heel seems to be 90% better but now my left is terrible.
I hope Accused isn’t cancelled. It looks like it might be though.
Lanette - that’s interesting on walking. I know the last few years with my pain sure made me feel left out of a lot because I just couldn’t do things.
I was in the city for work Thursday and Friday, I sure don’t miss a commute to work but it was nice being able to hear the morning and drive home radio programs.
On the way home yesterday I picked Michaela up for a sleepover. It was supposed to be just last night as we were going to take her home tonight before we went on our date, but plans changed.
Last evening about 9pm we got a call that Rodger’s mom was admitted to the hospital. Our nephew told Rodger that she had con genitive heart failure. The doctor thought she would be fine, but needed to get fluid drained from around her heart.
Rodger didn’t sleep well last night so didn’t feel like going to dinner today, so Michaela spent the night again tonight.
I talked to my MIL’s nurse this evening and she said she’s doing well. They have a couple of consults in because her legs are hurting so bad. She’s been having problems for a few years with them now. I hope they find some relief for her.

Today was a beautiful day! So I went for a 52 km (32.3 miles) bicycle ride. I did it in 2 loops so I came home to check on my husband and then headed out again.
Strava decided not to record 7 km of the ride ... I've been having trouble with Strava lately. So the image says 45 km, but it was actually 52 km.
I wasn't pushing hard, and did take a short break when I returned home in the middle, so it took me 3.5 hours in total or 2 hours and 53 minutes moving time.
Then I took Rhody for a walk, hauled the large watering can back and forth to water the berries (raspberries, strawberries and blueberries), vacuumed the floor, made dinner, and cleaned the kitchen.
I've started a new colouring as well, and may get up and do something else soon. The evening is still young.

So sorry about your MIL. Pain in legs is no fun. And what a shame about your cancelled date.
Bea finished her crate.
And I painted a Valentine's card for John, sheltering behind a screen!
She was so happy to come on her own for a change.
Left over haggis for lunch.

I forgot to save before I switched pages I will start again......
Machka- Lisa beat me to the punch. When my DH broke his ankle, he couldn't use crutches due to lack of balance and no depth perception. He tried a wheel chair, but he felt it was robbing his other leg of strength and was awkward to maneuver. Enter "Scotty the Scooter". We went lots of places with "Scotty". Make sure it has 4 wheels though because the 3 wheeled once don't have good balance! I believe that your life lessons have served you well over that past several years. You have grit, caring, organization, and just enough "self-ishness" to help you through this time. I am learning to be more "self- ish" from you! We are worth it!
Barbie I think you are doing wonderfully! Starting new life chapters is never easy, but I feel that you have such a great life system (habits) that are helping you with these life changes. Like many other ladies on here you have shown courage, resilience, and grace during this time.
Rita, Rebecca, and Ginny I remember going to the bars all the time with my parents when younger. We danced to the music, sang with live performers when allowed, and drank "Shirley Temples". As for "bodies"...my mother probably would have been happier living in a nudist colony! I remember telling her to go put clothes on because she was cooking breakfast in her birthday suit when my friend (male) came to pick me up for school! It was so common place that I didn't even realize she was naked until my friend J turned bright red, started stammering, and about ran back out the door! It has taken many years for my DH to get comfortable with me running around to get coffee or whatever in nothing. I do prefer clothes when cooking or sitting on furniture though.....just saying.....oh and if around other people. My baby sister is the most "modest" of us three.
Terry WOW! Those are awful winds! I am so glad you and yours are safe! Speaking of safe.....California ladies- how are you fairing? Thinking of you!
Flea I don't wear gloves (only mittens) because my fingers get super cold really fast especially when they are separated like in gloves. Mittens do help some. They spend a lot of time in pockets in the winter. They are what hurts me the most in the cold.
Allie and Beth Hugs and good thoughts for upcoming procedures.
Lisa I don't know how to switch it off, but am choosing to ignore it! If I was doing strenuous exercise then maybe I should listen to it, but otherwise, I am going to keep on trucking. I will continue to get 15 mins in each day and on 6 days out of the week strive to hit 2 15 min sessions (which naturally results in 10K steps- but goal is 2 15 min sessions a day!)
Heather Burns night looks like a success! Bea looks so proud!
I continue to learn so much from you ladies! Thank You! I have found this side of me I am not sure if I like? Have I always had it and just not recognized it? I think maybe I have always had it but it went dormant at some point in time.........I have to FINISH if I am close to the "end"! So I have 8500 steps, that is soooo close to 10K that I just have to finish it! If I have a full dishwasher running, but two dishes in the sink, I must wash them and put away. If I vacuum one room in house, I must vacuum all of them. I get that it could be seen as good, but I really need to learn to just say "good enough" in some areas. I sat with DH "watching" Barrett Jackson last night. Okay.....I was working on our emergency book, reading here and a magazine, and playing with kittens, but was sitting in man cave with DH while Barrett was on! I hit protein goals and fiber goals the past 5 days. I am heading into today with an overage of 190 calories which isn't hateful for the week. Logging really does make me think twice about choices. Heading to Cincinnati this afternoon to watch youngest grand daughter perform her final competition dances. At this point in time, she has decided to continue with theater and voice, but drop most of dance. Next year she will be starting college (yes as a high school junior) and just is tired of spending 25-35 hrs a week at the studio. I am proud of her decision making ability.
DH is still sleeping, dishwasher emptied, kittens fed, caught up with you in spite of kittens trying to "help". I should probably get some paperwork stuffs done before DH gets up.
Healing thoughts!
Congratulations on your successes!
Blessed to have such a wonderful village of women to include me.
Much love,
Kylia in OHio

Came across this in my memory feed on Facebook. It explains way I am grateful and feel content at this stage in my life.
On another site I am involved sharing joy became the topic of conversation this is what I shared. For me pure joy is found in the small moments of life talking with a salesclerk about day to day things and finding that spark where we both leave with a laugh or a smile. Taking a nap with DrewB where she falls asleep on top of me. Working with a student when they have a break through moment. Singing and letting the joy of the music transcend through me. Working on a piece of art and getting into the zone where I let the paint and brush speak for me so that it touches my soul. These are examples where I find joy.
Joy for me is finding my golden nuggets that connects me to my spirit. It will be different for each of us. For some of us it is the smile of our grandchild... the cuddles with our pets...our loved or ourselves making a breakthrough with an illness...working through a difficult situation and not giving up... Waking up and witnessing a beautiful sunset...Visiting a luscious garden...Being a witness as a young women describes surviving severe Covid and learning to work with God in her life instead of asking why me and making the changes she needs to make to make her life work the best she can by this story what a joy to be touched by her story.
Many years ago as part of an assignment we were to come up with a definition of what art is to you.
My response is Art is creating by touching a soul. When I view or create a work of art and it touches my soul I become one with the art. Joy for me is similar. When something touches me at that level that I feel the love that is joy and I become one with it.
