Hoping for Healing: Body, Mind, and Soul

Hello, I am 62 years old and back again after 6 years. In 2015, I started my weight loss journey here on MFP. I lost 40 lbs. In 2018 I was at my goal weight and maintained that weight for 6 years. A traumatic relationship that ended abruptly in 2023 during a medical emergency I was experiencing left me vulnerable and alone. Although it needed to end, it has been difficult. During the healing process and sifting through the emotional bagage left behind, my weight has crept back up the scale. I have searched through many apps, tried various programs, and have finally landed back on the app that helped me take off the weight years ago. I am hoping for a positive outcome, lasting behavioral changes, and complete healing: body, soul and mind.

    Hello, and welcome back!

Since you've been successful before, I'm betting you'll be successful again. Since you've been so successful before, I'm also betting you have a renewed focus on finding a long term path that can sustain itself through life challenges. Hope is a wonderful thing, but I think it's choice, persistence, and determination that can lead to healing rather than stagnation, to learning and growing rather than staying immobilized by difficulties past. IME, it's not necessarily a straight and level road, but gradual progress in a mostly-positive direction can lead to good outcomes if we give ourselves grace and allow for course corrections (and maybe the occasional rest break!).

In once sense, this may seem like facile platitudes, but as someone in a similar demographic (I'm 69), I've been through some stuff in life, too, and handled some of it better, some of it less well. I think an advantage we can have with age is that we have been through some stuff, have learned from it, and most specifically now have a pretty good understanding of our own individual strengths, challenges and preferences . . . plus how to balance and even game those to pursue big goals in manageable chunks.

I'm cheering for you to succeed!
