Support needed

Hello,

Hope you’re well and can help me.

I’m at wits end, I want to lose weight but seem to be going in circles.

To get exercise I started walking, this has now caused me to suffer from plantar fasciitis to the point it hurts to even stand up after a 20-30mins walk and the pain is agonising.

This then makes me feel like a failure and I turn to my best friend… food!

Anyone been through anything similar? Any tips or support?

Thanks for reading.

Hi! I have plantar fasciitis and my podiatrist gave me stretching exercises for my feet to do before I walk. It definitely helps.

You are NOT a failure. Pain is a tough thing to push through for anyone. How long/far do you walk? Maybe start out with shorter distances or rest halfway through. Also, there are indoor walking videos you can do. Lots of options. You CAN do it! 🙂

You are welcome! Don't get discouraged. Do what you can and as much as you can....no one is policing you but you. 🙂

Don’t give up! Are there any exercises you enjoy that don’t involve walking and don’t aggravate your plantar fasciitis?

I would recommend getting a sleeping boot. It prevents your muscles and ligaments from contracting while you sleep. This is the only thing that helps me when mine act up.

You also should be stretching. If you have a step, you can put the balls of your feet on the edge of the step and lower your heals.

Freeze a bottle of water and roll it under your foot. Feels good. And then there's the tennis ball massage under your foot. But I would definitely consult a doctor before trying anything. And a good physical therapist is always helpful. I had plantar fasciitis, tendinitis, and tarsal tunnel all at once. My physical therapist was the person who saved the day. I am an avid runner, and without my therapist I would not have recovered as well as I did. He had me up and running again in no time.

Don't forget that rest and recovery is super important. Better to take time off and heal than to make things worse. It's so hard to stop and let your body heal, but in the end you gain more time being healthier, and less time off your feet than if you had pushed through with an injury.

Part of my issue was I ran on my leg/foot while already injured. I ended up in a walking boot for 4 weeks, and then had to take the time to slowly rebuild. I ended up spending more time recovering from the injury than if I had just stopped to take care of it in the first place.

Good luck and best wishes for renewed health as you recover.

Oh. And you're not a failure. You are simply injured. Chin up. You can do this.
