I was supposed to meet up with my girlfriends last night but they both dipped on me. I was already near the casino so I went and had a few glasses of wine and played some slots. When I got home, I had some sauerkraut because all this talk made me buy some at the grocery store the other day :lol And...no heartburn this morning, so that's good, but back to AF today. Another thing I don't like about drinking is raises my heart rate. My resting is pretty high this morning, so I'm skipping my walk this morning which makes for a poop day. I'll have to try to get in some steps in between working today.
@margim5 I totally get that feeling. Hope you stuck to your guns!
@Womona First, glad your back is feeling better! Way to fight off the wine demon the other day and definitely still an LA WIN yesterday! And that bag is so cute!
@SunnyDays930 I love your mantra! No more excuses! And thanks for the sauerkraut suggestion
@Michieb125 It's nice that you have NA stuff to attend. What do use for Yoga at home? I was thinking I needed to start adding some beginner's Yoga to my routine, but I don't know where to start. I also work out at home.
@CamaroChick3717 Welcome to the group! I'm also a recovering bottle+ of wine per night every night for years kind of girl. Thanks to the support from and the accountability to this group and some determination and prayers of my own, I'm getting better. Hang out here and let us get to know you
@Surfergirl1982 Climb back on the wagon with me!
@NonnieDoiron You are off to a fabulous February!
@itladyee Hope you abstained and got your good night's sleep
@MissMay Congrats on 1/3 of a year! Amazing!
Congrats all you abstainers! Great job and keep going!

Hope everyone has a great day. Question, how many if any plan to imbibe on Super Bowl Sunday?

As of today, I don't plan to since we'll be at home and one of my big goals is not to drink at home. It quickly turns into a habit if I have wine in the house. I'll DoorDash more to get through the night if I don't have "enough." So, no...lol.

@Born2Run1958 I plan to drink non-alcoholic bev. on Superbowl Sunday. I'm more focused on what to make for dessert that is lowish-calorie. Desserts took on a whole new priority when I stopped drinking.
@SurferGirl1982 that sausage recipe we do is cooked in a disposable thick foil plan on a weber charcoal grill. Maybe over the stove in a pan on very high heat would work as an alternate?
recipe: (we double this so we have leftovers):
5 fresh hot italian sausage (nitrate-free)
1 med yellow onion (sweet onion won't work)
1 med Granny Smith apple
1/2 lb. crispy sauerkraut, rinsed and drained
1 bottle beer at room temp
3 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
1 teaspoon caraway seed
Grill time:25 min
In a heavy duty foil plan, arrange the bratwurst in a single layer. Cut onion in 1/8 in slices. Core and quarter the apple, cut lengthwise into 1/8 in slices. Scatter the onion, apple and sauerkraut over the sausage.
In a bowl, mix the beer, mustard and caraway. Add it to the pan. Grill over Direct Med heat for 10 min, turning the sausage 2 or 3 times. Remove the sausage from the pan and continue to cook the sauerkraut mixture. Grill the sausage over direct med heat until nicely browned, about 3 min, turning once.6 -

Hello and welcome. I am going to at big Superbowl gathering at a local sports bar Sunday. This place is so cool, 18 big screen TV'S, lots of Superbowl specials both food and drinks, football pools and tailgate games. My favorite is they do have a mocktail menu if I want to order from it. They are a bit to sweet for me so I drink unsweetened iced tea.
6 -
@globalhiker - Now you're speaking my language!
I think I'm feelin this as a post-SB breakfast. Will use a spicy brisket/pork sausage and toss on the smoker to finish.
Possible new tradition!7 -
a few words of encouragement for all of us

Continuing my mindful week with targets in place. I intentionally went to the store yesterday and chose a super nice bottle of wine and had 2 small glasses with cheese and crackers for dinner.
We have our two sweet grandkids arrive on Sunday for the whole week! I do not drink wine when they stay with us, so I am preparing myself to skip 6-7 days in a row (allowing for that one late night possibility). That reminds me to pick up some NA supplies tomorrow.
@Womona what you said about sweets is happening over here…..I never ever ate sweets when I drank wine all the time…..now that I’ve cut way back, I’m baking and eating chocolate daily. No wonder I am only maintaining my weight.
@Born2Run1958 - I would normally have lot of snack food and vino, but this Sunday will be grilled tri tip sandwiches with peppers and onions and NA beer. Maybe a cherry pie with the grandkids!
@chicbuc1 I started following Yoga with Adriane on her Your Tube channel (a handful of years back). She is very popular for her gentle and kind approach to this practice! There are dozens to find there…..you can pick all kinds depending upon what you want to try….I believe there is a Yoga for beginners…..and none of hers are very difficult to master! I like that she has short ones 10-30 minutes. Check her out here: https://yogawithadriene.com/
Let’s make it a great LA day!

Thank you @Michieb125! Have a great week with your grands...they're the best!!5

@NonnieDoiron ~@itladyee why is the walk challenge you’re doing 2.83+ miles? I walk that or more all the time, but was wondering about the significance of 2.83.
It's specifically an apple challenge from the apple watch and fitness app. I'm not sure where they got 2.83 miles. The challenge is that it has to be done in a single exercise (ie: walking, running, etc. that you log through the fitness app) to get the credit. You can't just accumulate miles in a day.
Your nail salon serves wine?????
@Womona ~ very cute, impractical, bag! Love it!
@surfergirl1982 ~ I wish we had some snow. Can't believe I just said that but the first snow fall is so pretty and as long as I'm prepared for it... (meaning I don't have to go anywhere) i don't care!
@born2run1958 ~ I most likely will. But here's the challenge. The game doesn't start until 5:30pm and as usual, it's longer than most regulation NFL games....so have to pace myself if I want to see ALL of the game. Actually, this might be a good time to try the NA beer!
@Michieb125 ~ enjoy the grandkids. How old are they? An entire week you say!? 4 year Julian knocked me out with 4 days straight. They are just NON-STOP. I find that Friday evening to Sunday afternoon is perfect timing.
5 -
@itladyee I tried the 0.0 Stella that @Michieb125 suggested and it is really good!6
-
@globalhiker thanks for the recipe! Sounds delicious. Sounds like hubby has some more ingredients to pick up tomorrow!😉5

Probably won’t even bother to watch the game. I used to be a huge football fan, but my husband is really not into it. He’d rather watch movies all day. So since we’ve been married, I think I’ve only watched one Super Bowl, and he played on the computer in another room the whole time. I don’t watch football anymore.
All that to say, more than likely, I won’t drink. But, if I do, it’s not because of football. 😁

@itladyee It’s great your doing the challenge. I walk about 3 miles or more every day I walk. So far, I’m at 6 days in a row. I have to keep walking or my hip starts giving me crap. As long as I’m moving, it still hurts but not nearly as bad.
Yep, the nail salon has wine. It’s all just boxed stuff, and they can only give you a couple pours. They don’t charge for it, but they charge you enough for the services. Lol5 -
SurferGirl1982 wrote: »Well, my husband had a doctor appointment in town today. And, he did what @NonnieDoiron's husband does...he bought me a pint of Jim Beam. It didn't magically appear on the counter though. He had it stashed. I had no idea it was here.
I was kind of bored, so I decided to go across the street to play the slots. I was thinking to myself, "I better not drink any beer because then I'll want to go to the liquor store". When I told him that I was going across the street, he said, "Well, I know you'll drink beer and then want to go to the liquor store. So I saved you a trip 🙂" I thought...well, I might as well have a couple of beers. And then to a add insult to injury, I lost!

In their efforts to be kind and loving husbands, they don’t often help us in the right way. It’s hard to be mad at them when we know they are just showing their love and thinking they are doing us a favor. And, then we are even less bothered by it when we’re drinking it thinking “so glad he got this!” It’s such a conundrum sometimes.5 -

I really needed to clean bathrooms today. What did I do? I worked and then baked bread.🤷🏻♀️
I guess I’ll have to do it tomorrow. Work will probably be really slow tomorrow afternoon. Plus, MIL will be at dialysis, so I can clean her bathroom without her staring at me.🙄
I really need to come up with a better routine for cleaning. My house isn’t messy or filthy. It’s just lived in. But, I have more stuff than I need or use, so I’m really wanting to do a full de-cluttering. I feel suffocated sometimes by all the stuff. I want my countertops in my kitchen to not be cluttered, but they are. I can’t get people to put stuff away. If my daughter can’t reach where something goes without a stepstool, she’ll leave it on the counter. If my son doesn’t know where something goes, it’s on the counter. If my husband thinks he’ll use it at any time in the next 6 months, it’s on the counter. And for some reason, my MIL has to leave her oatmeal, cream of wheat, tuna packets, and tea bags on the counter.
Do any of you have a good cleaning routine?3 -
@NonnieDoiron Your house sound just like mine and I would also be interested in a good cleaning routine.
@SurferGirl1982 If I had slots across the street from me, I'd be broke and drunk all the time :hugs:
I just drank my sparkling water last night. I was going to have one of 0.0 Stellas, but I decided to save them for Super Bowl in case I get an urge to drink. Plus I didn't want to waste the calories on drink. Isn't if funny how I'll do that for a few glasses of wine and plan my whole day around it but won't drink 60 calories in an NA beer

I am a huge football fan but I don't really like either team this year so I may not watch it at all. If I do, I will not have anything other than seltzer water with lime. I have got to get my diet back under control.5

I am going to a party at a friend’s house, and I know I’ll have at least one glass of wine. Two is my max, so I will try to micro-sip my way through the evening.
I am deep into Eagles country, so even though I don’t really care (I’m from North Jersey, grew up as a Giants fan), almost everyone around me is really into it.3 -
Sorry I'm showing up so late to the party. Looks like just about everyone is off to a good start to their month, whether it's an AF/LA February 1st thing, or multiple days already this month - nice job. For those that feel their not quite meeting their goals, this is a great place to be for inspiration and support.
@MissMay, as always, thank you so much for continuing these threads month after month, year after year. It is very, very much appreciated.
Also, a big congratulations to you on 1/3 of a year! What a great milestone to be able to celebrate. Hugs to you!
Welcome to all the newcomers, so happy to meet you and share this journey with you. @garnet20910 Lavender Chamomile tea, a big yes - I tried it just about a month ago and it's my new favorite herbal tea.
My February started out a little shaky, first 4 days were A, but I now have 2 AF and am feeling pretty good about today (even if it is only 7:30am here, LOL).

@NonnieDoiron my mother was right… do a little bit every day and it’s easy to keep clean. You never have to do the full, big , overwhelming cleaning. So, here is my schedule (based around my part time job):
Tuesdays: Bathrooms
Thursdays: dust (including baseboards). This is a good time to put things back where they belong is they’ve been out for a couple days.
Fridays: vacuum and wash the floors
Every day: make bed, run dishwasher at night, and clean counters after each meal.
As needed in between scheduled days: clean spills. Touch up bathrooms.
I find that my house gets a little shaggy after a week, and by two weeks it’s a real mess. If I don’t keep up with the above schedule, my house quickly turns into a disaster zone, and then I have the big project of deep cleaning it to start fresh.
As for decluttering, start very small. Clean out the junk drawer. Just one. Clean off just one small section of your kitchen countertop. And then move on to another small section. All in all, you can see a huge impact with just 10 minutes per day. I usually start with public areas. Paperwork and photos are last.
Need to donate something? Put it in your car for a once per week donation drop off. Just get it out of your house. Forget trying to sell stuff, I’ve found it’s a huge waste of time. The first axiom of declutterring is “nobody wants your old crap”. Just donate and take the write-off. Don’t be afraid of throwing things out. Stained ripped clothes? Broken toys? Nobody wants that, even at a thrift store. Throw it out.
If you have big bulky items, hire one of those junk removal services. I’ve found they are very reasonably priced and they deal lifting and getting rid of heavy stuff.
Here are some great books on the subject:
“A Slob comes clean” by Dana K. White
“Decluttering at the speed of life” by Dana K. White
“How to keep house while drowning” by KC Davis
“Unf*ck your habitat” by Rachel Hoffman
“The life-changing habit of tidying up-“ Marie Kondo
Ok as for others in your house…. Sometimes you just have to say to them all “put your *kitten* away”. They need to build the habit of putting things where they belong-even if it’s a ten minute pick-up before bed. If things don’t get have a place, find one. Once you start decluttering , you’ll have room in your storage areas for the stuff you want to keep that just doesn’t fit right now.
If your daughter can’t reach everyday items, move them to somewhere more accessible to increase the chance that she can easily put them back. Same with your MIL’s breakfast items. At least put them in a cute container on the counter if she’s really going to struggle.
Clearly this is something I am very passionate about. I grew up in a very cluttered, but clean house, and I’m kind of ruthless getting rid of stuff. I love a lived-in, inviting and comfortable home, but I know what you mean about feeling all the stuff encroaching on you. We all need some breathing room!
Hope this helps! It’s all common sense, but schedule it like you would schedule a meeting or a hair appointment.

Saturday - possible to be AF but not going to stress about it
Sunday - Strategic choices
I am going shopping in a bit and will pick up some 0.0 Stella. I will give it a try on Saturday. @chicbuc @Michieb125
@NonnieDoiron If my husband thinks he’ll use it at any time in the next 6 months, it’s on the counter. . This made me laugh! This month, I started refusing to go to bed until the kitchen is clean and dishwasher loaded. When I cook, my husband is supposed to clean up the kitchen. I've got about a 50% success rate with him. I try to tidy up each day and then have one day a month for thorough cleaning. Loving my new smaller house for this reason. I can do top to bottom in about 4 hours.
@Womona ~ great tips! I love the donation tip.

After I posted the question about drinking on super bowl I realized I didn't clarify the question. I know lot's of people host parties or attend parties and that I guess was the real question. To drink or not during the festivities. Truly, all I care about are the commercials. HA! But for those of you who do like football here is my one and only football joke...
What do you do when the Texans when the Super Bowl???? Turn off your XBOX and go to bed!

Popping in to say hi and thanks for the well wishes for my upcoming week! I have a sparkly, outgoing 6 yr. old granddaughter and the kindest and thoughtful 8 yr. old grandson @itladyee! I love them dearly but yes my max is definitely around 4 days, oops! I will have to report back. Luckily we will be very busy with their regular schedules and sprinkle in some fun things.
Special wine tonight being the last night my DH and I are home alone for 8 nights! For Super Bowl Sunday I’m trying the NA Michelob Ultra Lite 0.0 for 29 calories! Hope I didn’t waste $15.00 fingers crossed.
5 -
Happy happy anniversary @itladyee ! I hope you have a wonderful anniversary celebration!
@SurferGirl1982 so glad I can inspire you guys to get stuff out of your house! Makes my heart happy!
1.5 glasses of wine tonight. Yeah yeah, I know I didn’t need the extra half glass. But, I am within my calorie goals, so that’s good.

Entirely too much to document but we had a good evening
Did buy Stella 0,0. Anxious to try and too wonder if I threw away $$$
Going to be an early night 😅5 -
@Womona thanks for all the great tips! The schedule sounds great in theory, but I don’t know if I can manage that schedule.
Like I said, we’re lived in, not filthy. Kids participate. They are teenagers and have their chores. They empty and load the dishwasher every day, trash (daily), vacuum (weekly) and dust (weekly). My son makes his bed and keeps his room very straight. My daughter… welllllll… not so much. My MIL puts the dirty dishes in the dishwasher throughout the day. It’s my daughter’s responsibility to wipe down the counters and tables after dinner. My kitchen is always reset at night, but it only lasts as long as people are sleeping.
Since I work full time and my daily schedule is unpredictable, I find it hard to stay on top of a daily schedule. I try to clean alternating what I do on Saturdays, but my Saturdays keep getting eaten up with other plans (made by other people). And those plans either prohibit me from being home or being able to keep my schedule and I have to flex to cleaning on another day and whatever needs cleaned the most which throws me way off.
Decluttering and getting rid of *kitten* has NEVER been a problem for me. I find it very easy to trash stuff. I just don’t have a lot of time to do it. I like your tip a drawer at a time taking 10 minutes. I can probably do that.
I told my husband I want to declutter, and he said “ok” then walked away. He’s a “hang onto that because you never know when it’ll come in handy” kinda guy. When he says that to me, I tell him to hang onto it in the shop (his man cave). Then, it becomes his problem because I don’t go in the shop.
Anyway, I did clean bathrooms today. But, I skipped my walk to do it. Tomorrow, I will watch the live stream of my son’s competition. Then, I’m getting my nails done for the first time in over a year. Then, home to make chicken stock and bake cupcakes. Then, I need to go to Saturday evening Mass because I’m cooking and delivering lunch for the Youth Group on Sunday. See… way too much to do in a weekend. And, next weekend is my daughter’s birthday party. Hoping it’ll be easy… it’s at the skating rink.
Hubby remembered when he went shopping. No magically appearing bottles of wine. I think I’m a little disappointed, but it’s for the best.
