As per the title?

Why can’t we add our own foods to our own recipes?

The food I want to add is not in the database, I’ve added it to MY foods, but I still can’t add it to MY recipe.

I’ve had a quick look about the forum and I notice people were complaining about this at least 18 months ago, and the issue is still not resolved? Why?

Ok, to answer my own question, the food I added to my foods about 30 mins ago is now in the database, so you just need a little patience.

It would still be much better if you could access your foods directly

If you want to suggest this as a feature, post it here:

    https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/categories/feature-suggestions-and-ideas

The MFP staff don't normally read this part of the Community, so here you're just talking to other MFP users with no more power over the software than you have yourself. They do read the area I linked above, and other users can up-vote your suggestion if they agree with it.

It still takes a long time to get new software features, and realistically MFP is going to prioritize features that help them market premium MFP to new users, not details that would be nice convenience features for existing users, especially users of the free version. Just because we ask for things, we don't necessarily get them. They're in business to make money; if they don't make money the app goes away, kind of like SparkPeople did.
