Does This Sound Rational?

My boyfriend and I went for a bike ride (5 miles in 85 degree weather). We went without water because initally it was only going to be 2.5 miles. Anyway, there's some bush that sticks out too far and always scratches us. When we got back, I was dying of thirst, naturally. He said "go get your hedge clippers so I can cut that branch". I told him I don't know where they are and that I wanted water. He proceeds to leave and I ask (via text) if he cut the branch. His response: "Why do you give a f---? I wanted those clippers. You said no and got water. Drink as much as you want. Just don't talk to me anymore." He broke up with me for not getting hedge clippers. Does this sound rational to anyone? All I know is that if he's going to be that childish, I don't need to put up with his crap anymore.

There has got to be some other underlying issure other than just the hedge clippers. There is no way in hell anyone would break up with someone over that.

Not rational. If this is all that led up to the situation. Run away fast! In fact, you might want to move so he can't find you again.

It sounds like he may have some issues- his reaction is definitely NOT normal. Run, don't walk, away from that situation. You are worth much more than that.

What a horrible thing to do to you.

I am a psychologist and my diagnosis is totally irrational!

I wonder if he's related to my ex (of 8 years) who broke up with me because I didn't use my telepathy powers to divine what time he'd arrive at my house late in the evening and have a sammich ready for him.

(This was many, many moons ago, before cells were commonplace, and ages before texting, though he did have a cell phone, but he woulnd't use up his minutes calling ahead or anything rational. Much better to hold a grudge because I couldn't read minds!)

Is this the first time he's ever reacted like this to something? Most of the time when someone reacts this irrationally to something and it is the first time they've done something like that there is more to the issue. Something could seriously be going on in his life that he isn't telling you. This just sounds like a fight, something he is really going to regret later. When people push you away they may really need you.

Now, if he does this type of thing often that's a completely different story and you should get out of there quick but if this is the only time then something else is probably wrong.

He's lucky you didn't apply the hedge clippers somewhere more personal.

While everyone else tells you to dump the louse, I'd ask you, does this happen all the time? If it happens all the time, get rid of him like the flat tire that he is. If this is an isolated occurrence, something else might be going on. His blood sugar could be low or he could be having problems you don't know about. I'd give him one chance to fess up and apologize, and to promise never to talk to you like that again, otherwise, bu-bye.

I would say good riddance to him if cutting a branch is more important to him than you getting a much needede drink of water first. I'm pretty sure the branch was not going anywhere on it's own

My first thought is there must be some underlining reason and this was just the last straw for him... not neccessarily your fault... but maybe he was looking for a way out and he finally found it :(

Most men aren't good at communicating (not ALL)... but in my opinion he's not worth it if he won't bother to tell you the real reason behind his anger :(

    I'm sorry :(

He's freaked out for no reason one other time. I made a joke about how I needed a child size bike because I'm so short and he literally walked out of the store, found a ride home, and didn't talk to me for two days. I'm over it. If his wants are more important than my needs (and clearly they are), I don't need to put up with him anymore. Thanks for confirming he's crazy, everyone!

Sounds like he has issues beyond what you could see.
    He won't get better.
You are better off without him.
Being alone is better than being with someone like that.

    Best of luck to you.

Heck, being single sounds better than being with this guy. Really.
