Barbie-I found the paralysis slowly went away (although nearly 10 years later it can return). You are doing the essentials and are aware of what you are doing. I think if we would have had time to mentally prepare for spouse passing we may handle it differently. My husband passed suddenly so I had no clue what to do. When I expressed that one day, my oldest son said "you do whatever you want." I then mentioned that when my old coffee make died I would get a Kureig. Son and wife packed me in car immediately and we went shopping! It was a little thing but it helped me realize I could do things and make my own choices.
Kylia-my former doctor (retired now) told me our bodies change when we quit nicotine. It does change our metabolism. It did that to me and with no thyroid it is almost a double whammy. However, I am still within the smart bmi and I overall feel better. I think I have hit a plateau and am slowly working back down. Hang in there!
Take care all,

Morning ladies
Im here with Delia, got her down for a nap.. Tracy still feeling yucky but she has no sick time..so wore a mask and off she went.
Will go home and get the garbage together for Dan to take out for me..
Silly cat wakes up at 3 am and so ive been awake since then.
Ugh.
Im trying to stay warm.. 18 degrees outside5 -
Debbie - yes, I seem to get pretty good germination on 5- and 6-year-old tomato seeds. Somewhere around here I have a chart with the expected germination life of garden seeds.
Margaret - that extreme cold is dangerous. Glad you have that little heater for additional warmth. Take care!
Barbie - Jake had so much going on in the past few years - cancer check-ups, the heart problems, his getting rides to various doctors in Seattle. So many things you had to consider and that weighed on your mind, even though you dealt with these things very well and kept a positive spin. As others here have said, it's time for you to rest up. There's no hurry at all other than pay the bills, eat, stay warm and love on your doggies. Sending many (((HUGS))) your way.
Mo - I don't know how you do it, no wonder you are exhausted. Dealing with anxious parents would be the hardest part of the job for me, not the actual patient care. I'd probably get fired as I wouldn't be patient for very long. Hope you can get a bit of exercise in as a relief valve.
Heather - I enjoy hearing about the adventures and lives of your girlfriends! You have given me a glimpse of traveling in Europe and the various countries that I otherwise wouldn't know about.
Back later, just skimming through right now.

Morning, my darlin' peeples...
Stopped in for a minute just to respond a little to a few things.
Tracey - In my humble opinion darlin', that is TOO COLD. I was just whining to Egg that it's right at freezing. Our snow is supposed to start in about two hours. As soon as I finish this, I need to scramble up to the store, 'cause we're falling in the deep freeze with the snow and won't be out until Saturday or Sunday. Ick. This little Southern state just grinds to a halt. Hope Corey can get home without a major issue today.
Heather - I've had those same kind of dreams of late as well. Don't know what triggers them.
Mo - I know you get sick of hearing from all of us how wonderful you are, but genuinely, your gift of dealing with unspeakable parents must wear you down to the ground every single day. They want so much of you, and you must get home feeling as if someone has been hacking at your spirit and your emotions with an axe. Much love headed your way.
Barbie - You have my admiration as well. Your self-knowledge, and that ability to be aware of where blind emotion is trying to lead you, will keep you safe as you navigate the next few years. For a while, first instincts are dangerous. Not a place you're used to living, but your strength is enormous.
Gonna scramble, get back to the house, want to get a couple things to get us through the next few days, so I can just stay home. Just glad the whether (ha!) weather is supposed to warm up and calm down next week - dentist, doctor, labs, x-rays, and lawyer all in the space of three days next week.
Later, my babies,
Love y'all,

To those of you who have walked through the loss of your husbands, I thank you for your reassurance that I am doing the right things. I guess I expect myself to be bouncing back, I've watched you walk through the dark days and survive and then thrive. I have accomplished a lot. Yesterday I got the property tax bill and it was addressed just to me and I was reminded of all the steps I took to accomplish that. As Heather reminds us, "The perfect is the enemy of the good". I am doing the important things, especially eating well and caring for the dogs. I'll continue to remind myself that "things take time".
I am especially grateful that I can stay in my house so there's only my crazy brain telling me that I should be dealing with all the "stuff". I have an endless supply of books to read and listen to and TV to watch. The weather has been mild enough to allow me to walk at least 10,000 steps a day.
I ordered more yarn from Herrschners so I have enough for months of blanket knitting. I love the pattern so I don't get bored with it.

Good morning! ... It is cold here too (6 degrees F), but nothing like Tracey's weather!
Mo ... my oldest son was born 16 weeks premature back in the 80s. We spent 3 months in the NICU and had many hospital stays over the years. Never. Ever. would I have treated the nurses the way you are treated. Nurses were my life-line! So let me say this to you since you're surrounded by the rude and unappreciative. You are vitally important. You are a super hero bringing comfort not only to your patients but to scared parents as well. Your work is vitally important and is never forgotten by those who recognize your sacrifices. Thank you!
Vegetable Box ... a few years ago I received Misfit produce boxes. The company was just getting started at the time and the boxes of vegetables/fruit were great. Broadened my vegetable/fruit awareness. Over the years, however, the quality dropped and they became more like a grocery store than a novel way to save unused produce so I stopped buying from them. I have found a local organic farm that is delivering produce boxes this winter. Not sure where all they are getting produce in this frozen tundra, but I thought I would give them a try. My first box is supposed to be delivered today. I'm hoping to get my creative meal planning jump started with different things that I would not normally buy. And, because I won't waste money, we absolutely will eat everything they send. I'll keep you posted.

About 20 years ago, a good friend suffered a major crisis in her life and was in terrible emotional shape. I made this list for her to help her navigate that time. I just found a copy of it and thought I would share it with you. It's what I'm doing now and didn't realize it.

I am so terribly sorry for what you're going through Barbie. I can't even imagine, but I have to tell you that I've thought about it and I feel like I would feel the same fog that you're feeling if I lost Freddy. All I can echo is try not to put so much pressure on yourself to, as you say, bounce back. When our Shawny died one thing we found was that... nothing was ever "normal" again. So, just don't expect it to be. You're okay just "being". Sending HUGE (((HUGS))) and lots of love.
And love to all of the rest of you lovely ladies who have dealt with any kind of loss... ever. I know the sadness comes in waves... cuz I'm bawling right now.
Only -15F here in lovely MN, USA!!!
They actually called a flex learning day today due to the cold!
So glad to be able to stay INSIDE!

It sounds like you are doing SO MUCH BETTER than I was at this time. I was a wreck for at least 5 years. Had to get back on anti depressants and see shrinks and counselors. What saved me somewhat was the Seattle aids support group that was on Capitol Hill in Seattle. I don’t think it’s called that anymore. They were my life saver. Thinking of you. Keep pushing forward.

Oh wow!! My every sympathy for all you going through the extreme cold.
Today we were Max 8°C and min 3°C. Sunny. Our nights have been chilly recently, but we are due to warm up.
Our daffodils are coming out in people's gardens.
I have just woken up from a lovely nap, to John bringing me a cup of tea. Normally we are picking up Bea, but it's half term.
Cas from Clutterbug suggested a vision board on her podcast. My word for the year is REACH.
I didn't want to do a full vision board, but popped a few thoughts together. (The speaker isn't me, just found for free online) The one with outstretched arms is the cover for my last book, and you have seen the possible cover for my imminent one. Anyway, I had fun and I think it is inspiring me. It makes me smile, anyway.
Lanette- I thought someone might be inspired to think about a solo holiday. The world is a wonderful place and travel is so good for us.
Gives us a different perspective on everything.

Debbie - Safeway had a big sale on broccoli so I loaded up on it. $.99 per pound. I have a question that maybe your DH can answer (or anyone else on here). The broccoli is so clean - no dirt, unlike the broccoli I've grown at home before. So I'm wondering - is this broccoli grown hydroponically? How do they get it so clean? Where is it grown? It's not organic, but I'm guessing it's grown in an environment where there aren't a lot of herbicides and pesticides used. If I think about it, I'll ask one of the gals in the produce department one of these days.
Beth - yes, let us know how your vegetable box turns out. Perhaps the farm has a root cellar that doesn't freeze, and you'll get cabbage, potatoes, carrots, etc. Our local organic farm has huge hoop houses that up until recently were providing citrus. They might have heaters going.
Tracey - are your vehicles plugged in at night? That's horrible cold!
Barbie - glad to hear you are getting your steps in. Fresh air and being out in the "green" is so healing.
Walking effect on blood glucose - During the diabetes prevention Zoom class yesterday, one of the gals who is wearing a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) said a walk after supper really helped lower blood glucose. I've heard that a lot. She said she didn't even have to walk fast. She didn't say how long she walked, I'll ask her during the next class.
A1C testing - I'm curious - how many of you get your A1C tested at the advice of your medical provider when you have labs done? About 5 years ago I asked to have mine checked because I was simply curious since my grandfather had type 2 diabetes. I had to pay for the test since it wasn't medically necessary - it wasn't very expensive. And I had it tested every year. Seems like in some cases, A1C isn't checked unless a person is showing signs of diabetes. Now that I've been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, my insurance covers it.
I'm also wondering if, now that I've been diagnosed with osteopenia, if my D3 testing is also covered. I see Dr. Lisa in a couple months for another A1C and will ask her.
Length of days is speeding up. 3 minutes and 11 seconds at my latitude which is 46.56. I am so ready for early morning quiet walks when the sun is just coming up and no one else is awake yet.

Did Jari Love Extremely Ripped DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do an Extreme Cardio DVD.
Rori – so glad you’re safe
Rebecca – what a wonderful gesture you did by buying that guy food. At the soup kitchen almost all of the people are so so kind and grateful. Yes, there are maybe 1% who aren’t, but almost everyone is. I hadn’t served in quite a while (not sure why) but then one day I did. It’s just so sad to see so many familiar faces. The absolute worst part is when you see a child coming in not wearing any shoes and it’s the middle of winter. Makes my heart break. A nude cruise line???? Now that’s news to me
Mo – of course you’re exhausted! I’m exhausted just reading your post
I can’t wait for the time change so I can go for a walk after dinner. I’m SOO looking forward to that.
Barbie – my sentiments with what everyone else has said about how well you’re doing
Off to take a walk to Upscale Resale.

When husband and I lived in Hammond Oregon, we frequented a food bank at a Catholic church in Astoria. The place was just a small room with a counter and we lined up mostly out the door. Maybe 2 or three people could be inside waiting at a time. There were two helpers that asked if you wanted this or that. One lady being served asked if there was pie or cake, and we all just kinda looked at each other quietly. Pie or cakes, don't really get donated! I would always say no thank you when they would offer me deer meat (venison) or bear meat. I'm sure its terrific but I was kinda nervous about saying yes because I didn't know how to fix it. Plus neither son nor husband would've tried it. I remember getting coffee pods and we only had a Mr Coffee maker so son and I opened pods and poured into our nearly empty coffee container. You do what you have to do.💖😁

I agree with this quote...
I read a book a year or two ago. Title somewhere in my brain that gave examples of those that were able to follow this advice and other that didn't. Those who followed the advice or knowing when to quit and regroup often had better results for their businesses and their health.
I remember one example had to do with Mass Transit project in California. They stopped the project when it got to be too much of a money pit even though it already had cost a vast amount of money.
On a different note... I listened to Someone named Jefferson Fisher whose occupation is a lawyer. I liked what he had to say if you find yourself being gaslighted...
When someone says to you you are imagining that ...a good reply is "That's what I heard" It puts the monkey back on them.He does say it is in a clear firm non reactive voice.
You need help..."I need some one who is helpful" Again you are not biting on their bait. I am adding if they respond you are saying I am not helpful..."If the shoe fits..." Again hard as is saying it in a non reactive manner.
I never said that..."I do not image facts" Do not respond with yes you did. Rather just list the facts as you know them.
I watched the movie Gaslight with my husband where the term came from. The villain of the story was trying to get his wife to distrust everything she thought. His goal was to obtain her fortune. Fortunately for her another character helps her discover the truth.
We don't always have a Joseph Cotton in our corner... We can listen closely to what others try to get us to believe and stand up for ourselves and others against gaslighting.
Gaslighters have an agenda that is in their best interests and not in yours.

Well, I spoke too soon. Yesterday I made him a sandwich and he warmed up some soup for himself(I warmed up leftovers for me). He was carrying the sandwich, soup, chips, cookies,??? and bumped something in the hall that made his spill the soup on himself and the floor- He started cussing like crazy and then threw everything in the trash. The sandwich didn't go of the floor. No reason to toss it. He cussed like crazy as he cleaned it up then started complaining about it not being worth it for him to go to the shows because of everything he had to do when he got back. I did EVERYTHING while he was gone. Didn't leave a single thing that he usually does(which isn't much in my opinion)
He went to his room for a bit then went to see his mom. That didn't go well. She realized he hadn't been there for two days and laid into him.
Thankfully, he took care of the dog at her house after that and by the time he got home, I was already gone. Went to dinner with my zumba friends. We didn't walk because the one I usually walk with didn't come and I just didn't feel like walking. I could have with the other friend, he was good walking or skipping it.
Came home and dh had calmed down.
He stayed in his room, but did come out to tell me about his visit with his mom, about the fact they still didn't check her for UTI- they tried Thursday but didn't get enough pee to test but never came back to try again. Even as altered as she is (thinks she lives on the Air Force Base in Fairfield-she has never lived on base at any base FIL was stationed at). Talked about MIL's room mate- going on and on about Kennedy being shot(she was watching the history channel).
I watched The Voice that I had recorded. Glad I do. Get to pause when needed(like when he came in and started the above conversation.
Having my tea while he is in the shower. Going to walk the dog a bit longer today beings I don't have class.
Didn't hit my 10K yesterday so need to do a bit more to make sure I do today. No problem tomorrow, I have class. I will walk the wetlands Thursday and Friday along with walking the dog.
That dog LOVES to walk- hard to where him out.

Husband wanted me to do an inventory of what we have in our small freezer to make meals with. He came back and looked at list saying...oh I didn't know we have this and that.😁. Plastic containers can be a bit of a hassle. I know what's in them but he's not much of an "explorer" in that regard. I made up quite a list of options with a couple of things on our shipping list for Thursday. Its good to go thru what you have, so things don't get forgotten.
Today is taco, and burritos because our lettuce is wilting by the minute! By tomorrow who knows what its gonna look like. The downside of buying shredded lettuce. But a head isn't much better. I always cut the core down, and slap a wet paper towel on it and try to keep it fresh as long as possible, but we don't eat it as quickly as we should. I have no sour cream but I will survive!
Had a nice chat with my middle sons mother in law. We chat periodically oogling about our grandkids etc. She was up visiting when the kids were sick. Helping, but also trying to find a home in the city they're in. Her home she's in presently is selling soon so her realtor better get busy! I'm glad we have a good rapport. Of course I am the one that has to connect first. That's ok, she is kind of shy, and I am kind of the opposite of shy. There's that!😂
Choking down a salad. I would rather have something hot, but tonight is tacos. I bought this "southwestern salad kit" and for some reason it just is blah to me. I added mozzarella shredded cheese, garbanzo beans, dried cranberries, black olives. Still just meh. I feel like a horse just eating to be eating. I still have a container left for tomorrow, but tomorrow I will have leftover taco meat. That's sonething. Might make a burrito out of it.
Mo. Breathe friend breathe. Your job is stress city to be sure, so just break things down a bit into bites of tasks that are more manageable. You don't have to hold the whole hospital on your shoulders. Deligate everything and or anything you can. You are only one person. You still have to have energy left after your shift to live your life. Nurses are the angels of being selfless, to give until there is nothing left. Please think about you in the equation of your life. We value your thoughts and ideas and perspective of the world.💖👍🏼🙏

Kelly WOW Lots of inches pared away. Well done!!!
Ginny prayer said for favorable scans and positive outcome intervention if needed. Well done for doing your research homework and being your own advocate. ((hugs))
Tracey wow that Aspen, what a little firecracker! Sweet pic of you snuggling the new pup.
Lanette, might there be a little USB port on your printer? Maybe all you need is the cable? Way cheaper than investing in a new printer! Since I’m so paranoid (no financial/banking/information done on any wireless device) my printer is cable connected to my laptop, whose wifi radio has been turned off forever ;} Jacques Pepin and Lidia Bastianach were lovely! So down to earth and flavorful.
The germination experiment below.
Lisa one of the gals at church recommends this https://a.co/d/j6I5fab as having made her skin “silky.” Me, I’d be inclined to seek something where the bovine source was organic/grass fed… Back in the day, used to dring Knox unflavored gelatin, but never noticed and improvement in my nails. :{ I LOVE “learning to knit” and Kels for sending it to you.
Beth, “…completed day 3” well done!
Rita thank you for the daily giggles. Sharing them occasionally with a line dance buddy who, despite being healthy, lean, active and vegan, recently suffered a stroke. I blame it on the surgery to repair torn knee stuff.
Debbie glad to hear your DH is not so easily irritated lately. So sorry to learn it was a short-lived respite.((hugs)).
Rebecca I made biscuits and gravy Saturday for us (not a frequent event!) from my favorite Southeastern Mills Country Buttermilk Biscuit mix (plus ½ C milk) and Country gravy mix (plus 1-3/4 C water). Only had the peppered gravy mix, far prefer the sausage flavor. Just as well, means I didn’t eat as much . . . I don’t even knead them, just stir enough so no milk remains and put ice cream scoopfuls on parchment paper to bake. Rats! Now I’m getting hungry for them again! Great gratitude.I am so with you about bugs. Eeek!
Cindy impressive pineapples! The one I have growing in my office has never fruited, guess it’s just not warm enough in here. ;{
Kylia I am so sorry for your frustration. One of the side effects of eliminating nicotine is that it frees up oxygen in your bloodstream so your body can “get more” out of the food you eat, so even if intake and outgo are constant, excess storage goes up. You will conquer this but it will take time.
Barbie “procrasticlutter” I like it! You are wise not to give into the “get rid of everything” impulse. Hard as it would be, best to wait a year before any big changes. (((hugs held extra extra extra long)))
Terri Ah “mousse” that sounds much more appealing. Doggoned autofill…
Rori, wow! Be safe!
Mo ((hugs)) Sleep in your current case is crucial. You can work out another day but you can’t make up for missed sleep. ((hugs))
Machka not a very restful day off from work . . .
Carla ((hugs)) and hankies.
Heather your pic makes me smile.
Margaret what you said about gaslighters and how best to respond.

I had enough Amazon points that I just ordered one for a couple bucks.
Thanks for giving me a boost to go look.

Lanette - Don't forget, you can always take a snap of a document (one without TOO many pages, anyway) with your camera in a pinch.
Well - got to the store, got a video finished, will be able to upload it to YouTube soon and get the bits and bobs sorted for tags and description and title card, etc., and get it scheduled midnight Wednesday. Seems to work for me pretty well, and YouTube likes it when you're consistent. Picked out a 65- second short, as well. The short pieces get about 500 hits when YouTube pushes them up. Pretty cool. I need to do 2 out of each one of them, but that's OK, I'll get there.
Heather - Every time I do one it gets easier mentally and emotionally. I can look at my performance more dispassionately, and keep the negative self-talk to a minimum. Learning to say fewer "ums" each time (Clipchamp tells me how many I utter! 🙀), and I can see the progression of me getting more comfortable with the camera. You should do this - you'd enjoy it enormously.
Still can't get my sis to a regular Zoom call, so we can record a couple, and she swears by next month, things will calm down so she can. I'm not holding my breath. Love her, but she ain't much for being on time. We could not be more different people.
Just talked to my daughter, she's coming down off a meeting with commander and a soldier who's expressed suicidal and homicidal intentions towards her and the other cadre. Very tense meeting. She's talking to her dad now, who came home early with the snow, and will have to be at work an hour early tomorrow to get the snowblowers out.

Lisa - we share the same brain sometimes, lol. That's exactly what I did when I needed to "scan" a few things this morning, was able to crop the photos, save them as .jpgs and it worked for my purpose. They were a little off-center and the lighting was iffy, but I got it done.
By the way, I wanted to mention how impressed I am at how much you are improving in your videos. In your last one, you were comfortable and at ease like you'd been doing them for a long time!
Hope things got resolved OK for Kels. Sounds scary.
