Adding stuff to your oatmeal

I have been on this weight loss journey and by experimenting with different stuff I discovered how yummy it is to add 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and 1 teaspoon of pure honey to 1 cup of cooked oatmeal which is only 261 calories. This is to replace putting sugar and butter in it. It works for me, maybe it will work for you too 🙂

Oatmeal is a great breakfast, IMO! I eat it most every day.
I like to add cinnamon, peanut butter powder, walnuts, hemp hearts, flaxseed, blackstrap molasses, mixed berries, and plain nonfat Greek yogurt. That's a lot more calories, but I've found I need a big-ish high-protein breakfast to manage my appetite through the day, and I'm in weight maintenance now so a little higher calorie budget than when losing. I was especially pleased when I started using the molasses: It's a bit sweet, I like the flavor, and it has surprising amounts of potassium, calcium and iron.1 -

AnnPT77: Good ideas!! I use blueberries and raspberries when I have them, fresh produce is really expensive right now so I have been trying things that I have at home 😊1

In case it might work for you, too: I use frozen berries, give them enough zap in the microwave to thaw but not turn into soup, then mix them in my oatmeal. Because I have the freezer space, I buy the berries in big bats at Costco.1 -
Try adding a spoon of cocoa when you cook it, then add berries on top. I buy frozen berries, cheaper, don't go off, and when they defrost they're squishy and a bit jammy. Perfect for stirring through porridge. Or peel and chop an apple, cook it with a bit of cinnamon and have that on top with a bit of honey and peanut butter.1

I will keep that in mind, it would actually be better because fresh produce goes bad so quickly. Thank you 😊

I like to make what I call Nutty Chocolate Overnight Oats.
I combine nonfat Greek yogurt, oatmilk, stevia, chocolate peanut butter protein powder, chia seeds, vanilla extract, mashed banana, and cinnamon. When I eat it, I add fresh or frozen berries on top. Someimes I'll add chopped pecans too!
It's so tasty and is full of fiber, protein, and omega-3's!1 -
I have oatmeal almost everyday, currently I have been adding:
Flax, chia, hemp heart blend (I grind it)
Cinnamon
Cocoa powder
Dash of salt
Frozen berries
Riced cauliflower
Greek yogurt
Natural peanut butter
Around 420 calories
In addition to what others have mentioned I have also made it with:
Unsweetened applesauce
Butternut squash
Sweet potatoes
Turkey sausage
Maple syrup
Pumpkin puree
I am thinking about trying a potatoes o’brien style with peppers and onions and maybe paprika?🤷♀️
