Lunch today :
Multigrain toast with cream cheese, sliced tomatoes and sea salt. I usually make this in summertime but these were excellent tomatoes for winter.
It’s Valentine’s Day so I’ll be making hubby a nice dinner of salmon, asparagus and rice pilaf. Hopefully I remember to take a picture of that one!

I am rather pleased with the tapas dinner I managed to put together today despite getting home from the office at 20:00 and having to pack as we go on vacation tomorrow. I fried the onion and potato for Spanish tortilla last night, though letting red onion infuse in the beaten eggs overnight made it an unattractive colour. Meatballs were batch cooked last weekend and the vodka tomato sauce also came out of the freezer. Cheat's Andulusian cogollos y ayo fritos used ready made fried garlic from the asian supermarket and tasted better than expected. Only the Catalan spinach was made properly from scratch tonight.

Day0 and Day1 of vacation. Green chicken curry on the Thai Airways from Heathrow to Bangkok service in Economy was surprisingly hot. Breakfast of mushroom pancake.
We ate at a hole in the wall near the hotel. Pity the hubby didn’t want to try out the street food stalls set up for Bangkok Design Week next door to the hotel.

Would you eat here? Past experience with BBQ joints on island locations makes me wary of tourist traps. The swordfish looks might impressive though.

Grilled red snapper.

A snack of wings and beer.

BBQ tiger prawns, the hubby’s fish curry and a side of morning glory.

@acpgee Wow! Those dishes look amazing! What’s in the pineapple side dish? The Tiger Prawns looked delish!!2
-
The pineapple side dish is hubby’s order of sour fish curry. I’ve eaten a fair amount of Thai food but this dish was new to me.2

Baby arugula pizza

Hubby’s birthday present to me was a few nights at a fancy resort. Discovering we are not the resort type as I just get annoyed at paying 50% more for everything when there is nothing nearby. Breakfast buffet was good though. I stuck to the Asian options.

Happy Birthday ACPGEE!2

@1948CWB
Thanks! It’s too bad that the luxury beach resort birthday gift is a disappointment. I guess I am not a White Lotus girl. Give me street food stalls, cheap foot massages offered by vendors on the public beach, and haggling in the market.
Ditto happy birthday!!!
If you haven’t been/ you may love India then! Some of the best food markets and street vendors I have had! Esp Delhi and Goa! But I guess that’s another thread!3 -
Took a moped sidecar taxi to the village 10km away from the resort. My lunch at a local market stall was $2.
My dinner order at a roadside restaurant near the resort was $8 with a dollar extra for a mango smoothie. I ordered grilled prawns but got deep fried. That’s a little taste of hubby’s chicken green chicken curry next to the rice.

Surprisingly good airport food at Krabi International. The green is melinjo leaf, a local foraged vegetable.
3 -
Dinner at the touristy night market in Chiang Mai.
3 -
By request I made mushrooms on toast, spread with labneh with a deep fried poached egg.3

Finally got a Lanna Thai meal. We are at Aroon Rai last visited 25 years ago when we visited Chiang Mai when I was still in grad school. Nam Prik Ong, Som Tam and stir fried mixed vegetables as well as an order of Khao Soi.
3 -
Another Khao Soi. The local chicken curry soup.
3 -
Sundubu jjigae, seaweed salad and seasoned squid.
2 -
We skipped hotel breakfast and went to a Lanna Thai restaurant for brunch. Lychee and mango smoothies. Hubby had a beef kha soi. I started with nam prik noom which was spicy on the way in but painful on the way out. Followed by mango sticky rice.
