    Happy Birthday!!

You're the third one we've wished Happy Birthday to this month so far.

I know of 2 more coming up. 😁

Have you registered with temporary employment agencies? They were a great way for me to get jobs on a number of occasions. They aren't just for a few days in a typing pool anymore. One of the businesses I worked for did most of their hiring through an employment agency rather than having a big HR department. On 2 occasions I was hired to cover mat leave which gave me several months of work and some great new experience.

They've been advertising it for a month or so now. It's just got Rich Text (again, I think).

Kylia - yes, this new format is a challenge. I'm looking for the "preview" which seems to have disappeared. These tech kids can't leave well enough alone!

Ginny - sending (((HUGS))). I'm sure your presence in helping your SIL deal with your DB's failing memory and health is very, very much appreciated. The English pub sounds nice!

Tina - So sorry to hear about your DH's broken leg. Sending (((HUGS!)))

Rosemarie - the only thing that saves my bacon financially is having a pretty strict budget where I track everything on an excel spreadsheet. I'm lucky that I once worked for an accountant and also had a county job where I had to prepare a yearly budget and anticipate monthly expenses and revenue. I understand your frustration with your DS not wanting to spend time helping you plan. Finding a trusted friend or relative to give solid advice can be hard.

I include my friend T and her husband on all decisions I make here and ask their opinion because, as my executor, T will be the one left to clean things up. I had a pretty frank discussion about this with them last Sunday.

RE - Your low-carb shopping trip sounded super. Also, great job with the cleanouts. I have a friend near Austin who also experienced an extended power loss. His wife is now pushing him to get a Generac.

Barbie - your thriftiness and Jake's ideas about spending sounds like how it was at my house. My DH always made me nervous because he felt money was made to be spent. And I was the saver thanks to Depression era parents as well. The inside of this house needs a lot of upgrades and cosmetic repairs but I 1.) am hesitant to spend the money when I know the future buyer will probably rip out any new cupboards or flooring and install what THEY like and 2.) don't want to subject Rosie (and myself) to it.

However, the other day I did run into the contractor (another Roger) who did some work for me a couple years ago and have a few small tasks for him to do this year. I was wondering if he was still in business and was thrilled to pull in next to him in the Safeway parking lot. I've known his wife for years and it was fun to catch up on her too. She had to medically retire and has a lot of health problems now.

    ……………

I am meeting a friend for an early lunch but want to drop off some clothing, small appliances and pantry items at the little thrift store first. Once I got things that had accumulated on the guest room bed loaded in the car yesterday, I started looking around the house and garage and just kept grabbing, lol. I'm curious to get a feel for that little store and see what all they can use.

Better post this before it goes away. Blasted upgrades!

Tina, sending tight hugs. Take care of yourself as well. Do you have someone to help you with the care of DH? Who will be with your DH during your "Me time"? When I cared for my mom at home, respite was needed. So, during your "ME Time", get pampered with a massage or a mani-pedi, sleep in, soak in a tub, and do whatever you want to do. Thanks for checking in. I missed you and wondered if you were okay. Take care of yourself.

I knew they were changing, missing my smiley faces. I don't understand "Rich text" with less features, but will figure out with the help of certain ladies, especially you!😉

Picture from Kitchen window…Yesterday no snow on the grounds to wake up to this..Knew it was coming so I bought myself some pink yesterday. I look at these on my kitchen table. I had nice dinner with DS last night. He wanted pork chops(I bought from local butcher, red potatoes, sweet potato, and green beans…desert was a fruit spread and excellent Gouda cheese. He helped me clean up my desk top too! A work in progress. Photos are bigger than I expected. I have gone back to posting right to Facebook and then sharing. I am trying not to download because takes up too much space on this laptop.

So sorry Tina to hear about your husband's leg breaks. What terrible luck! It's amazing he managed to fly home! It certainly will test your patience as he recovers. ❣️ Life always has a curveball to throw at us.

Zoom today with my schoolfriends. John has instructions to put the duck legs in the oven while I am otherwise engaged.

    Morning, ladies…

Ha! Sorry, not yelling - just showing some of what the rich text format is capable of. If you think of it more like Word, it's a lot closer to that now than the old BB format. It also starts out with the double space between a paragraph now, which I really do appreciate.

Lanette - It doesn't have a preview button because the text you see in the box is now much closer to what the end result will be. Much more so than it was, anyway.

The only thing I asked for is an "Undo" button, 'cause I need one! So I went and asked them to add one. I doubt I'll be the only one asking.

Tina - So good to see you, and SO sorry about the mister's accident. Sounds like a long recovery time - glad he's getting himself the PT he needs. Trying to wade between health systems is hard enough, doing it between different countries sounds like a nightmare!

Heather - So much sympathy for your DDIL - It's been a long winter for both of them, no wonder they're tired! Even the good stresses, like traveling to these places, is still stress, and rough losses for both. I know they're so glad you moved closer and can assist. So pleased to see your progress on the book - making the cover art always made me feel like it was finally real. Which reminds me, I need to get it on my to-do list to reset my last book and put out a second edition. For some reason, I ended up putting it up for sale at a different size than the first two. Need to get that re-done and get a proof in my hands again. Saving all my scripts that I'm doing now for another collection down the road.

    Margaret - Love your pinks!

We're not in snow - but it's 40 degrees out there (4C), and the wind cuts like a rusty saw blade…

Thought I'd traipse around outside to get y'all a couple of springtime pictures from the Arkansas River Valley… my hydrangeas and daffodils are up, which makes me happy…

Unfortunately, as cold as it is outside, my hands are still trying to thaw out from my little trip around the yard. Supposedly, it's going to be 80 degrees on Friday (27C). Talk about weather whiplash! Today, I will be staying inside where it's warm, along with Egg.

Luckily, not a lot going today - just need to get a thumbnail created for the video, and get a couple of short clips cut out of it to get posted separately. The short ones get 20 times more views than the ten-minute ones… Has something to do with how the YouTube algorithm puts them in front of people, I think.

Not sure how the format of this post is going to turn out - will have to go look at this post on my phone.

    That's it from Arkansas, kidlins…

    Love y'all,

    Barbie -

I was going to post a reply and "quote" your post above, but looks like the ability to cut & paste & shorten it up is gone. I'll keep looking though. I thought spoiler was gone but found it in the "paragraph" symbol a couple layers in. I agree about too many faces and symbols to choose from, really miss the small selection. Decision fatigue!

I think I understand why the changes - they will probably make it easier for folks on certain phones and tablets. It's giving my brain an opportunity to learn and stretch, but I'm in the old "if it works, don't fix it" school, lol.

I could relate to you needing to keep Annie on a leash and sit with her when the chimney sweep was there. In the past, DH would hold Rosie when workers were in the house to keep her quiet and calm. Last summer when the HVAC serviceman came, I wasn't watching her and she decided the excitement was too much and decided to do her business in one of the bedrooms - I had forgotten to close the doors, sadly.

Grocery bills for a family…. I tried putting this whole section into a spoiler but it doesn't look like it's working. DRAT. It used to be so easy to highlight. Oh, well. Sorry!

I like to watch the cooking shows that come up on FB and YouTube. A gal popped in up my YT feed yesterday, she calls herself a lower middle income mom of 5 kids (family of 7). Her cooking style makes me laugh - she dumps and pours and her food looks pretty good. She fills cafeteria-style plates with the main dish, some fruit and usually a vegetable and then calls her gang to dinner. She makes cooking fun. Here's a sample put into a spoiler to save space. I see they call it "spoiler warning". Since there's no preview I don't know how this will look.

But, what shocks me I guess was she has several videos of going grocery shopping. She spends a lot on good quality meats and I don't fault her for that, and normally picks up inexpensive toys and some treats for the kids. But her grocery bill usually runs from $400 to $500 per trip, and it appears she only gets enough food for a couple day's worth of dinners.

I'm not judging her - if she makes it work, that's fine and that's her business.

But it did make me take a hard look at my own grocery budget. I try to come in at under $500 per month and that includes a few meals out. I do load up on some meats and items on sale when I find them. I normally have a couple eggs and slice of toast for breakfast and some type of bean soup or bean salad for lunch. And nuts including almonds and walnuts, which are getting expensive. My big meal would be dinner.

During the pandemic, some of my favorites disappeared for months so now when I see them I get a bunch - canned red salmon, for example. And it's spendy.

Anyhow, just an observation. I guess food would be my extravagance and I don't think what I buy is all that extravagant! But I can see how some seniors and folks with families on a limited budget have a tough time even with doing more home cooking and making a pound of hamburger stretch if needed.

Heading under paragraph symbol is new bold. I tried the photo size. If I do nothing it comes out large like my first post. Always something new to keep the mind humming! The icons look like what you find on Facebook.

When typing you can highlight and bold feature comes on along with you can add an delete word by crossing it out other feature isnospacebetweenwords. Not sure when I would use that! I am just playing around to learn some of the new features.

The paragraph icon is where spoiler is I haven't tried that one yet. The code block might be a way to quote someone. Put what you want to quote in code block. Then copy control C then past control V. I will try it now to see if it works.

YAY! Figured out picture sizing. When you copy in a picture, the icons at the top let you pick the size you want.

I first had to highlight and make a copy of Rita's post. Then I pasted into my comment. Then I went to paragraph icon and found code block under " . I did have trouble copying her comment I am going to try again. That is also where you find spoiler. I will figure that out another day!

YAY! Figured out picture sizing. When you copy in a picture, the icons at the top let you pick the size you want. See the screen shots below: here I hit quote.

Here I hit code block after highlighting it. To read entire quote I clicked on gray box and moved a black bar underneath it to read the whole quote.

So conclusion for me this new system will take some trial and error. So I think I know what to do if someone tries to quote someones post.

I don't like the double space for a paragraph. I prefer to choose the emphasis.

P's husband is asking to invite himself on the next group jaunt to Madeira because B's husband said he might go. Glad I am out of it. I detest and despise that man.

Did the Extreme Strength DVD then a pilates DVD. The plan fortomorrow is to do Tracy Long’s Back Up DVD

Went to Lady’sLunch. We’d gone to this place 2 years ago. Not bad. It’s just nice to be out with the people here.

Barbie – I really feel I was raised by my grandmother who raised her family during the depression. To this day I can still hear her saying “we paid for that” when I put a bit of water in a jar to get every last bit out.

Tina – I’m so sorry to hear about your hubby, but glad he’s getting help from others. Insurance sure can be a PITA….especially when it involves a foreign country. BTDT. Vince had to go to the hosp when we were in Switzerland. Regarding the TP issue: we compromised. I got what I wanted (it’s NOT going across the bathroom) and Vince is getting it recessed. But that was one thing I was absolutely not going to give up….no way. I hate it too much

Now doing two loads of laundry. I could have waited until tomorrow but the weather looks nice for tomorrow (meaning going out by the pool) and it’s raining out now so I’ll do it now.

Pip – Zach better watch out!

    M – happy birthday

Now to post this to see how it comes out

    Michele
