The last few days of reading posts have been very enlightening! Hearing that so many of us have gone through similar problems in life really takes some insight. It makes me realize that the grass is NOT always greener on the other side! I am a work in progress and try to take ownership for my own insecurities. Thank you all for expressing your thoughts about yourselves.

Welcome Mary! Nice to meet you! Motivation to me means doing one positive thing after another. Living my life on an event keel, not letting me dip too far down into "woes ville". Sure I have a pity party every now and then. But I process, then move on. Figuring out what makes a good day is key. What does a good day look like to you? For me its a day I do all the things I say I need to do. Some are weight related, others are projects, and some are for relaxing. Stringing these all together makes a good day for me. Try not to pile on too new tasks, because that can become a stress. These all have to be doable. You're not a robot either, life happens, things change. Adapt, acclimate and adjust. (My three A's of life). You got this!

Tina I’ve made ant “traps” just using cornmeal. I put it in a shallow dish, plastic yogurt/sour cream lids work great! The ants will eat the cornmeal and take it back to their nests. Unfortunately for them, they can’t digest it. Soon, no more ants! The best part is if pets or children get into it it won’t harm them, just the ants.

Still catching up - 😉
Rori - sounds you were at the perfect place to pass out. 😁 Hopefully it's just dehydration, as you mentioned. Good idea getting a check-up from your primary care provider. Thanks for keeping us in the loop!
Tina - is your DH able to walk unassisted? I think getting dizzy after bending over - then standing up for a while is fairly normal as we get older.
Heather - your new bras sound nice, glad they fit. Sometimes ordering intimate apparel over the internet is tricky.
Allie - glad you are getting out and about a little. I didn't realize you were diabetic - wearing a CGM now and taking insulin. Have you had diabetes for a while or is this affiliated with the new kidney?
Rita - Like you, that "twiggy" model is firmly planted my our being, no matter what shape I'm in. Weight Watchers and their dreaded weigh-in's There's still a teeny-tiny pang of failure when the scale starts to climb ever so slightly. 😣 It's gotten better though. Focusing on healthy eating and exercise and getting my A1C back in line is more important than a piece of metal with a spring and a dial!
Lisa - crossing fingers Kels is able to pick up the kids no problem this time. Hopefully he learned his lesson from before.
Machka - great observations shared with Kylia and I think there's something there for all of us. So sorry to hear about your shoulder. Love your 5 year goals. 😁 After my frozen shoulder, I knew I was done swinging heavy tools and even lifting heavier weights on my left side - I feel a twinge and I quit, or else I'll pay.
Weight gain - delayed muscle soreness - I wondered why I had a 2 1/2# gain over the past couple days and very sore thigh muscles from an extreme "workout" in physical therapy a few days ago. Copilot AI found this:
Yes, a workout that causes delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) can lead to temporary edema and weight gain. Here's why:
Inflammation Response: When you exercise intensely, especially with eccentric movements (like lowering weights or downhill running), you create microscopic tears in your muscle fibers. Your body responds with inflammation, which can cause fluid retention (edema) around the affected muscles.
Water Retention: This inflammation can lead to temporary water retention, adding a few pounds to your weight. It's a normal part of the healing process and usually resolves within a few days.
Glycogen Storage: After a workout, your muscles replenish glycogen stores. For every gram of glycogen stored, your body retains about 3 grams of water, which can also contribute to temporary weight gain.
This weight gain is not fat and is a natural part of recovery. Staying hydrated and giving your body time to heal will help.
Let's see if that gain resolves over the next few days with better attention to diet. Maybe it wasn't all due to those salted peanuts after all.😉

Ants. We are also being invaded.
TMI, but a week or so ago, I opened up my laptop, and ants came out of the keyboard. I mean like two dozen or more. It felt like a scene from a horror movie.
We have routine pest control, so we will have them put bait inside next time they come. In the meantime, I am spraying and have put my own traps out. I also do lots of squishing. I don't understand them, they are in places that don't have food, like our bathroom and our bedroom. I hate them. But at least they are small and don't seem to bite.
Youngest son is mid flight to NYC with 30 of his theatre friends for the week. They are watching Hadestown, Chicago, Moulin Rouge, and Lion King, plus attending some theatre workshops and doing other touristy things. I give his theatre teacher all the respect. I would never attempt such a trip.
I came with hubby to work this week. I waved at you on my way up, Lanette.
Here is my son and his friends waiting to go through security.

Lanette – Happy hatch day to our favorite chickens! Thanks for the good thoughts on the daughter, she has her hatchlings with her at the hotel for the night and will be flying back out in the morning. I am duly grateful, I promise you. The usual contretemps with the airline, who left Levi’s carseat back in Hawaii, but were able to loan her one they had extra. They’re supposed to be getting hers back to her this evening. She’s had worse trips, as you know.
Barbie – Something I’ve always believed is that it’s up to us to find creativity for ourselves, and in my case, it’s more like a fire hose that I can't turn off! But on the flip side, I’ve never understood boredom as a concept for myself. Still don’t. I do get frustrated with projects that will not cooperate, but I am never bored.
Tracey – I’m so stealing that! Freaking hilarious. I was shooing Egg off my keyboard this morning while I was talking to Kels on the phone.
Rita – Add me to the Twiggy wannabes. Of course, I also thought I could be tall, and I barely broke 5 feet tall, so there’s that. 🤷🏻♀️
Really good morning. Was able to do everything I needed to do at the courthouse online! Made me so happy… Then I had a lovely find at the thrift store.
I’ve mentioned that I'm crocheting the first garment I’ve ever made, a cardigan, and when I was in the thrift store today I found a lovely, deep purple fabric covered solid with tiny sequins that will make into a cardigan easily ($6 for 10 yards or so of it). I believe I can create a pattern from my crocheted cardigan easily. It will be beautiful over a black skirt or trousers.
It's also possible that there are pills that would make my mind stop doing this. 🤷🏻♀️👀😂
Time to get a little more writing done, get my script finished for tomorrow.
Love y'all!

MFP Weekly Check-In for March 24, 2025
RVRita in Roswell NM - Weight stayed the same this week. I’ll take it! Better than going up! Still not up to my usual activities, but watching my intake of food.
Barbara on the Southern Oregon Coast – Avg WT eked down three tenths of a pound to 132.8, avg steps inched up 200 steps to 4546, BB&B once, line danced and dogs to powerline twice, dog group got rained out, AF dismal, CI and sugar continue to skyrocket.. Scaling supplements back to half doses eased GERD.
Fog yesterday gave way to blue skies, it could be 60+F today, woo hoo!
Lanette in SW WA State – weight jumped from set weight of 160# to 162.5#!! Probably some edema from muscle overwork and soreness at Physical Therapy, but might also be from eating when not hungry, eating between meal snacks, eating salty nuts, eating more carbs than usual finally catching up. Step average 7784 this week, down from last week. Total activity minutes – 285. Still house walking, but without weights per physical therapist for 10-15 minutes after most meals.

Nope, I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth. Now to try to catch up
Left FL about 9 on Thurs, got to NC about 7. It appears that BK hired someone to do my job while I was gone. Only this gal can’t speak English. They want to keep her (why, if they can’t communicate with her) and they figure my job is easy so they’ve asked me to work Sun, Mon, Tues and Wed.
They’ve started the demolition of the bathroom at the condo. They’re sending me pics and keeping us updated as to how it’s going. We’ll probably have to go down in May to work with him as to the placement of the towelracks, etc.
Just saw that part of our deck is collapsing. Not sure if this means we need a new deck or not (I wouldn’t mind a new one only the $$$ is probably going to be a lot)While we were in FL the gal who runs the ceramics place resigned. I think we should go there tonight to see what they’re doing
They forgot to call me in Jan to schedule my colonoscopy so I finally called them. I’m scheduled for May 1
Welcome everyone new
Mary – where in the sunshine state will you be?
Rori – I don’t think South Hutchinson Island is close to us as I never even heard of it. It maybe further inland or on the West coast. We did get to see quite a few launches. We’ve read that in 2024 there were something like 120 launches. That’s almost 2 per week!!!! But we did get to seethe launch with the 4 astronauts who went to the Space Station to bring back the “stranded” guys. So sorry to hear you blacked out but glad there’s nothing seriously wrong
Carol – adorable grandkids. I was getting the “bad gateway” too so I just used Firefox for that time
Rosie – whenever I get a “friend” request from a guy, I just delete it. You can PM your “friends”
Kylia – glad your grandson is OK
Well, off to have dinner. I think we’ll go up to ceramics tonight just to see what is going on now that J is no longer there. Surely, they aren’t closing up the place, so what are they doing?

Sprinkling cinnamon around, or putting Bay leaves near an area they come out of works too. I used to have them in a bathroom so I scattered some bay leaves around and plain cinnamon and they left.

Today I had to go to the post office to mail a box to overseas Navy eldest son. I sent him this photo. I then wrapped them individually and put in a ziplock, so hopefully they will be edible by the time he gets them!
He's like yumm! So I had to buy 2 sheets of stamps because they were out of the roll of general stamps, plus I had to buy a sheet of international stamps. Total was $64! The downside of having pen pals, but hey, I don't spend that much all the time. The post master is really nice and thanked me for writing so neat on the customs form. He also thanked me for reusing a priority mail box, (thanks Allie, I reused the box you had sent to me with the swimming suits in them).
It was nice to be thanked. I always complete the custom form at home, just because its easier than trying to do it in line when you're distracted. Its also messier! Well I write messy anyways. I snagged a small pile of them with a bunch of different sized boxes, so I always have them on hand.
Husband stopped at Taco Bell, so I got some tacos. What makes them so dang good?
We went to Wal-Mart on Sunday and I was quite efficient in my shopping. Found my black stretchy jeans I like and bought two pair. Bought some new slippers because I like to wear them when I'm inside, and the other pair were ratty. So these will be nice at sisters, hotel, and son's place.
I found a Barbie scooter I was gifted many years ago, and wiped it clean and will give it to Athena.
Thinking on gifting her the two action figures we have of Angel and Spike from the series "Angel" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". Probably not including the little bottles of holy water, and cross that's a knife.🙄😂 I bookmarked some Amazon sites that have Barbie clothes for sale. I will see what she has though, and if she has a storage container for stuff. It might be fun for her to choose her own Barbie clothes. I think she needs to learn how to organize that, if she's ever going to find the matching shoes etc. Part of Barbie play is organizing that so you don't waste time hunting for a dang shoe. That's frustrating! I am also bringing a can of sausage gravy mix and a bag of Bisquick mix so Athena and I can make biscuits and gravy for her momma! Son can organize bacon in their air fryer.👍🏼 See how I do these scenarios of what I want to happen??🙃😂😂

Heather - I kiss when the Grands used to come weekly. They are busier these days and I don’t get to see them as often.
Rose - the men that try to add me as friends is very annoying. I’ve found though if you decline it’s the same ones that keep repeating so I just assume they are trolls or bots.
Kylia - I think when we see family that we don’t see often we question a lot. I don’t remember a lot of my growing up. Memories are not as reliable as we think. It’s funny if you asked me I would tell you we hardly ever ate out, but reading through Mom’s diaries I know this isn’t true.
I’m very tired too, I’m not sure why, but yesterday I was awake for only 12 hours and was ready for bed again.Barbie - Is Annie still considered a pup?
Lisa - I am frustrated by the cost of mechanical issues. Growing up my dad, grandfather and brother fixed most anything. I really resent having to pay for things to be fixed. I guess I was spoiled.
I feel so bad for your grandchildren having to be with that man. I hope he at least treats them well when they are there. Although, not allowing them to talk to their mother is not. In my opinion.Rita - I don’t think it matters how old our children are they still worry us.
I hope you get some peace soon.Ginny - it’s funny you mention the accent. I started watching Canada’s Got Talent this week because a singing duo from NB is on it. Actually from the town we left to move here. Rodger went to school with some of their relatives. The first thing I noticed was the accent, I loved hearing it.
This Tuesday a young girl from my hometown is going to be on it.
The Martin Boys is the duo from this week if any of you are inclined to search them out on YouTube.Rebecca - that was a very thoughtful post. Stuff sure does affect your mood.
Kim - Rodger is going to replace the piece of wood. He’s pretty sure he has it figured out how to fix now. Marketplace here is so full of scammers and businesses now it’s hardly worth going on. I did see one I would have liked, but they never answered me.
I don’t have a box spring. It’s a slatted IKEA bed.Your Christmas present sounds like fun!Lisa - good advice on the tired. I need to go get my bloodwork done.
Debbie - it’s good to get rid of the garbage for sure.
Heather - I love your post about stress and rest today.
I don’t know how to get rid of my stress though.Machka and Kylia - I stopped bringing work home a few years ago and now I don’t have work emails on my phone. I completely changed my thought process on this. I used to think the more I did the more it was acknowledged and it just isn’t. I value my home time, and don’t want to use it for working with no pay.
I’m still very tired, and think that is the stress in my personal life right now.
I hope you both get breaks soon.Barbie - I so enjoy your wisdom. I hope Annie settles and you’re not having to hold back on things because of her.
I took a vacation day today and am now deeply regretting it. I am so tired of the news that DH insists on having on.
Margaret - I believe you’re correct. We cleaned the majority of my Mom’s house out in 2015 when she was still living there. In 2017 she went into the manor and my brother finished it. Then I’m 2018 he paid it off and then demolished it. Truthfully that house should have been torn down when we were young.
Rita - I think I’m predisposed to weight issues as well. My Mom and my paternal side are all bigger. My maternal grandmother fought it her whole life I think. I know if she weighed more than 110 on a Sunday she dieted the whole week to get back down.
Ants - I have used Borax mixed with icing sugar to get rid of them. It does kill grass though if you do it outside.
Flea - That’s awful!
I should probably post this, I made notes all day yesterday and forgot to post.
Oops!

I managed to claim my free coffee from Waitrose today! I was too rushed last week. A coffee at the café there is £3.50, so quite a saving.
Edie was going home with a friend unaccompanied, but she did come over to say hello. When John gave her the after school chocolate she said, "Oh, you didn't have to, because you weren't picking me up!" It's so weird to see them growing up. Edie's friend looks a bit anorexic to me, but they were happy enough together. Edie did her personal best/record in three county swimming races this weekend. She and her mother stayed with the grandparents in the next county. What it is to have a talented child! Bea took part in an acting competition, narrating an audio book. On the way home we had a Spanish quiz competition. It was a draw. 🤣
Walking through the park we got into conversation with a very sweet mother who was Russian, and now a British citizen. She can't visit her home country at the moment. Life is so complicated.
My son is cooking lunch for us on Mother's Day on Sunday. Slow cooked brisket. I'm thinking of offering to make an easily transportable dessert, like a chocolate mousse. 😙
I took over the very posh chocolates and a hand painted card for DDIL's birthday on Wednesday. Apparently, my son is taking the day off, and they are going out for a long bicycle ride. Great idea!
I had a lot of joy today. Simple things thrill me. I count myself very blessed.

So, ants. I tried Terro traps and in one spot, they are attracting them well. Though I'm not sure if they are taking the bait back to the colony or they're just all using the traps as a pub and having a drunken brawl.
The mister is mobile again! He walks around with a boot without any other assistance. He even got his own beer today. He has some pain, but he's committed! He still can't drive for a while, but that's fine.
I am struggling with a headache. I'm not sure if it's barometric pressure or allergy related, but it's annoying.
For those of you in England, my niece needs to get from Heathrow to Harlaxton. What is the best way for two young, relatively inexperienced travelers from the U.S. to do this? They are students and not yet 25 years old and from a very small midwest town (no subway, train, or bus systems).

Tina - a quick look at Google maps 'Directions' told me how to do it. Underground Piccadilly Line to King's Cross, then LNER overground train to Grantham, then bus to Harlaxton. I use the Train line app for train bookings. I did all my French ones with it in previous years. Underground you can just put your credit card on the pad at the barrier. Bus will be credit card or cash.

Flea - what time did you roll through my part of the state? I was on I-5 heading north this morning at 7 to shop. Where are you staying up in Seattle? Queen Anne, Ballard, Fremont and Fishermen's Terminal were my old stomping ground. (Pip's too as I recall, a few years after me.) It's probably changed a lot in the past 25 years. 😁 Enjoy your stay!! And what a nice trip for your son, making good memories right there.
Heather - I love that Bea and Edie are so well-rounded and don't appear to be caught up in the trends that kids fall into - like anorexia for one. Of course, they aren't teenagers yet. But the emphasis your son and DIL put on healthy eating and outdoor activities should pay off. And, your and John's involvement and interest in their lives has to have a positive impact.😊
Allie - thanks for the info about diabetes, I figured it had something to do with your transplant. I'm assuming the bleeding stopped and the wound is healing OK?
Michele - I'm curious too what's up with ceramics! So did BK cut your hours now that they've hired the other girl? Maybe they wanted someone trained and dependable for a back up. Neat that you got to watch the space launch for the "rescue" mission. I can't imagine being up there for that long, but at least there were 2 people. When I first heard about it, I wondered what if one of them had a heart attack and passed away or became very ill. I bet there's training/protocol for that. Burial in space or something….then Sigourney Weaver and the Alien popped into my head, lol.
Tracey - agree with how lucky we were to grow up in families with relatives who were mechanics. My dad used to do all the mechanic work on our cars (he could only afford old used ones) and the only time I remember him having a licensed mechanic help was getting the timing right after a tune-up. Of course my brother helped and was interested in it.
I also remember taking a day of vacation and my DH would stay parked in front of the TV, watching news or something I wasn't interested in. I actually was able to cash in a lot of vacation when I retired because I wouldn't even bother taking it - we were able to accrue quite a bit, which helped in the end. When we were younger we'd take a day trip or go somewhere, usually a sheep or farm trip and get out of the house. It was tough when he got older and was so set in his ways.
Dry Needling v. Steroid injections - I messaged Dr. Lisa and told her about the Dry Needling the physical therapist talked about and also asked her about the injection she gave for back trouble.
She answered back that Dry Needling can help break up scar tissue and increase blood flow to encourage your body to heal an area. It’s quite safe and low risk. She said she had never done dry needling herself, but did trigger point injections, where she injected some numbing medicine and a steroid into muscles that are especially painful to help calm down the inflammation. It was something she could consider for me.
So - have any of you ever had steroid injections for lower back pain to quell inflammation from old disc injury? I think the PT is helping a bit.

Awe, so cute! Glad you can see now and then! Husband had used the scooter as a trade in when we bought the chevy Spark on the coast. The dealership owner actually bought it, and it was on the showroom floor.👍🏼💟. Husband loved it, but he couldn't manage driving it those years, plus it was darn cold, definitely more for CA weather.👍🏼

Found out from J that theceramics place is open 10-2 (which doesn’t work for us) except on Thurs when it’s open 10-8. So we didn’t go up tonight
Lanette– well, I know that the previous gal who ran the ceramics place left because they wouldn’t give her a raise. What happened with this gal, I don’t know. It happened while I was down in FL. She’s pretty dependable (will give us notice when she’s not going to be there), so it must have been something really bad. I’m sure I’ll eventually find out. At BK my hours were cut, instead of working 5 days/week I’m now working 4. But then again, who knows if that’ll change? I know that I’m too conscientious (is that the word that I’m looking for?) but I like to know that the job is done and done correctly. Like today I changed this veggie wash because it needed it and then tested the water. Sometimes I really question the choices they make. Like they had this one guy who was a really good worker (this was right after Jerry left). One day they only gave him one hour of work. It wasn’t even worth it for him to come there! So, of course, he quit. So why keep a person you can’t communicate with and give her more hours? I can understand keeping her for when I go away and giving her just a few hours (maybe the weekend only). But who am I? About those people from the Space Station: I’m sure they’re having to go thru rehab right now. But at least they’re on earth! The reason they had to stay at the Space Station had something to do with their vehicle not being safe to return to earth.

Heather - I was having a conversation last week with my boss about our niece and one of Kaitlyn’s friends being bullied for being too thin. Our niece’s paternal side are very slim and tall. Both of these young women suffer from being too thin, but it doesn’t matter what they eat, they don’t gain weight. They are both quite healthy but look so very thin that they don’t look it.
Your son and DDIL are raising wonderful children. They also get to be blessed with you and John as grandparents too!Tina - My son in law worked in pest control for a bit in the field and my daughter in the office. They would both say that your ants are enjoying a nice old bar tab at your expense.
Lanette - we aren’t allowed to carry anymore than 1 week over from one year to the next. I actually ended up enjoying my day, I went and got bloodwork that I’ve been putting off, then went to Walmart. I then went and used a gift certificate I was given in September and got a pedicure. I got the spa one for stress relief and relaxation.
I should have taken a book with me.
I then came home and painted my fingernails. After supper I dyed my hair and took a bath.Aside from stripping the bed, washing the bedding and making the bed I did nothing. Perfect! DH also ended up going to the bedroom to watch TV most of the day and Kaitlyn had a drop in.I repotted a plant yesterday and three pieces had their own roots established so I planted them for her. She stopped on her way home from work, which was 4 hours from her home today, and picked it up. She apologized for not staying longer, I told her it was ok we didn’t get drop ins often so it was a nice surprise. We used to do fun things, but it seems we never do these days. I am hoping we can a couple times this summer. It will be nice Rodger will be working weekdays for the first time in years so we’ll have weekends together.
I’m hoping we can do something this year.Lanette - I have had dry needling for my hip and my shoulders. I think it helped loosen something up. I tell you what helped me the absolute most though was actually deep tissue massage including cupping.
As soon as Rodger gets back to work I’m doing that again.I’m heading to bed. I’m reading a book from the 80’s called Almost Paradise. It’s an ok book, but I want to know what happens. It’s actually from 1984 which is the year Rodger graduated. I didn’t read as much in those days.
I want to get another chapter in tonight.Tracey in Edmonton

Hello Everyone,
My student is now officially done with her internship with me. They finally listened to the mom and assigned her daughter to me. The mom told me that she wants me to have custody of her daughter if she dies or she loses custody. I told her she was younger than me and that her 23-year-old daughter could take custody of her sister. I also got my favorite patient, "Mr Man," my student calls him. He is nine months old, and his mom hasn't been in for the teaching to care for him. He reacts to my voice and gives me a big smile. Now he is sucking his thumb, and she is learning to turn over on his stomach to sleep, which isn't easy when you are on a ventilator and a trach. He loves "Miss Rachel" on YouTube. He loves it when I hold him and rock him. I am getting his eczema under control as well. They assign him to me when his skin looks terrible; when it looks better, they give him to someone else. I got him some clothes and socks to fit his big feet.
Then, I had a sweet 8-year-old who was suddenly having chest pain and had a fever for a few days. Dad told me when it was his turn to have him, he noticed that he wasn't himself. He had no energy. It turns out that he had some form of necrotic bacteria with three different strains. So, he has a chest tube and is on many antibiotics. The dad was so attentive. When the mom stayed with him, she remained on the couch when I said he had an accident in the bed. So I cleaned him up and changed him. I told him and his mom that when they are sick, they sometimes have nighttime accidents. I think diapers at night may be the solution. The first night, I had a teen who looked like a grown man. I don't know if he knows about life, but he looks miserable. They saved him, but I think he has a poor quality of life. He and his best friend at 14 decided to steal mom's car and drive while drunk. They crashed into a tree.
The driver was fine, but my guy wasn't. The adoptive mom wanted to do everything that they could to save him. He has a trach and can breathe without a vent. I wish these kids knew what they were risking before they did something dumb that could impact their lives like this. We had back-to-back cases like this. He was so heavy. My student came in handy to help me clean him up every two hours. When we first checked him, he was in a swamp of poo. It took three of us to clean him up. Oh my, it was terrible (He was getting Go Lytely at 300 milliliters per hour). I didn't get him on day two.I lost five more pounds. I am so happy, but my scrubs are getting too big. I will need to buy more soon. I got my certifications done. I need to do one more, and then I will focus more on neonatology. I want to work in the NICU when I move back to Chicago. Working in pediatrics is terrific, but my ruptured disk in my back needs me to lift smaller people. I will tour the PICU to see if I want to do that. I love caring for the babies. I was a NICU nurse for 20 years and a Pediatric Nurse for 16 years, so I can go either way.
I hope everyone is well and happy like sMiles. Allie, take it slow and listen to your body. Lisa, it's good for you and Egg to take a break.

@SophieRosieMom ... there were and are more than 2 people on the space station. They sent 2 more up and brought 4 down so there are now 7 people up there.
Others have spent quite a while up there. The 2 Americans were only supposed to go for a week but their "vehicle" had issues so they sent it back empty rather than risking lives.

Lanette/Tracey - I really admire my DDIL for the way she has brought up the children. She has very good boundaries. They are not allowed cell phones. although they do have ipads etc, and I'm sure they sneak a peak at stuff they shouldn't. (Edie has a rebellious streak.) Their TV watching, and computer, is limited, unless they are ill, and they lose TV and computer privileges if they behave badly, or are rude. Max had a trial of a cell phone at 13, but DDIL wasn't happy with his use of it, so he chose to go back to an old Nokia. The evidence is growing that they are deadly for kids' brains and mental health.
The reason why I thought her friend might be anorexic, was the baggy clothes and dark shadows under the eyes. My friend G was anorexic at school, and we had one girl die of it. This was in the early 60s. I'll never forget the sight of that girl walking towards me in the corridor. She looked just like she had come out of Belsen. After that, the headmistress was forearmed and caught G before it got beyond return. I think there is often a danger with pre teens and teens. Edie is very body and hair conscious. They are all growing it down their backs. Fortunately her triathlon training, which is extremely arduous, means she has to eat plenty, which she does, but she does sometimes say she is 'full'.
Quiet day today, apart from a Waitrose delivery. 🤩 Editing this morning, as usual. Hip exercises. Etc etc.
Tracey - I'm so very glad you had a relaxing day. Sounds wonderful. 💝 I keep promising myself a pedicure, but haven't booked anything. It's decades since I had one. John and I have an agreement not to make a noise the other can be disturbed by. John watches sport on his laptop with the sound turned off, and I go to the bedroom for my YouTube, or certain progammes.. If we watch something in the living room on TV, it is a mutual decision, as a shared space. It can sometimes be annoying to have to accommodate our individual preferences, but it's worth it. It was good of Rodger to take his news to the bedroom and out of your way.☺️
Boundaries for considerate behaviour are important for happiness. My DDIL is the most boundaried person I know, but also generous, loving, adventurous and fun. She has taught me such a lot about claiming space. If you know where you stand, you can be generous from a full heart, not just out of people pleasing. People pleasing makes you ill.
I wholeheartedly agree. But it is the opposite of being bumptious. She is quite self-effacing, but she knows where she stands. It is a pleasure to be in her company, but you would never try to take advantage of her. Respect is the word.
